Rules & Regulations
This competition is open to all schooling children between the ages of 9 17 years old(Std 3-Form5)
Ages 7 + 8 are qualified on the condition that the children are well-versed in English
All participants are required to sign-up with www.conversation-master.org under Membership sign-up
menu or fill in the form manually.
Participant fee refer to www.penangparents.com/children-event/conversation-master-board-game-
tournament-2014 (Paid by individual or sponsor) Registration fee is paid in advanced. Walk-in candidate
will be charged RM28 per pax.
The estimated time for the preliminary round is 45 minutes. Grand final maximum time 45 minutes. hr
being short speech, evaluation by judges, announcement of winners, prize giving, etc.
Each team shall comprise a minimum of three and a maximum of 8-10 players with a facilitator recording
the marks. Target contestants: 10. Split into 2 groups. Primary school and Secondary school. 45 minutes
for the preliminary round. 45 minutes for Grand Final with all contestants participated in the Grand Final.
The arrangement for contestants of more than 10: Each session has the capacity of taking around
maximum 18 players(split into 2 groups). If there are more than 10 players enrolling in the last minute, it
will be split into two groups using 2 board games. First 45 minutes- 1 facilitator allocated to each group.
Last 45 minutes- at least 4 strong players including the two winners from each group are short-listed to
compete.
Topics of the game will be similar to that of the board game except the private topics (E.g. Family) with be
replaced with general topics.
Each contestant must complete the speech within 30 seconds.
Helpline can be given by the facilitator or the supporters but any player who receives too much help from
others on how to respond to a topic cannot gain full marks.
Marks will be recorded according to the marks allocation in the board game. They are decided by the
judges, facilitator and audiences. The quality of ones speech is judged based on the following: funny,
humourous & interesting, Grammar & Sentence Structure, informative, witty answers to a difficult
question, powerful vocabularies, rhythm, diction, voice tone, good understanding of the topic.
All participants are required to be disciplined throughout the game. Players who chat during others giving
talk will be given demerit marks. Any player caught speaking in other languages/dialects will have 5 marks
deducted.
The organiser reserve the right to amend the rules and regulations of the contest during the competition.
The organizer reserves the right to film the whole competition procedure for advertising, promotional and
publicity purposes without further notice.

Judging Criteria/ Notes to Judges
Marks will be recorded according to the marks allocation in the board game. For basic level participants,
they are expected to make 5 sentences for each topic. Marks available will be allocated accordingly. For
advanced level participants, the quality of ones speech is judged based on the following: funny,
humourous & interesting, Grammar & Sentence Structure, informative, witty answers to a difficult
question, powerful vocabularies, rhythm, diction, voice tone, good understanding of the topic.
All participants are required to be disciplined throughout the game. Players who chat during others giving

To round up(if time allows and the candidates are competent), each player will be interviewed with one
question by the judge. The questions std is set according to the ability of each participant to answer to
the Q at his age. This chance is given to obtain a fairer judgment from the professional point of view.

Judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entertained.

The general marks from the board game are recorded by the facilitator on the white board. In
addition, judges will be given an evaluation sheet to fill in. Judges may be seated at one corner or
walk around to disguise their identities as judges.

Judges appearance: Friendly and not too stern. Dress Code advisable to be informal. Be
communicative in the workshop to create a friendly environment to encourage the students to
show their talents.
