MEANING OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION:

Definition of Gender Discrimination-

Sexism or gender discrimination is prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex
or gender. Sexist attitudes may stem from traditional stereotypes of gender roles, and may
include the belief that a person of one sex is intrinsically superior to a person of the other.

Discrimination at work
Article 23 gives everyone, without any discrimination, the right to equal pay for equal work,
but even in industrialized countries there is salary discrimination (see the graph below) and
there are promotion obstacles for women. In developing countries, this discrimination is even
worse.
Some causes of gender discrimination
The causes vary widely and include:
Religious traditions and sacred texts. It seems that especially the Muslim religion contains
many discriminatory injunctions, which moreover are often interpreted very literally.

Custom and culture. Culture shapes the way things are done and the thinking of people
who believe that things should be done in a certain way. In many cultures we still witness
male misogyny and machismo.

LOCATION OF INCIDENT- Micro-biology department of the company.

DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT:
The head of the Micro-biology department of the company had an attitude against women.
He was a person who could not digest the fact that a woman can get a higher position than a
MAN thus displaying the largely present male centric attitude of the INDIAN SOCIETY
which has seeped into the corporate culture.
Janardhan the head of the department gave all the work to her deputy/junior Vanutha all the
work which had to be carried out , he had started giving her a lot of work and started
pressurising her thus making her work-life hectic.
To his dismay Vanutha did all her work successfully without any problem and thus her talent
was recognised by the management of the company .
As a reward to Vanutha the company gave her a promotion as the post of Department HEAD
of the Micro-biology department and shifted Janardhan as a supervisor of another department
in the company.
Janardhan being such a egoistic and male centric man couldnt digest the fact that a lady had
take away his post and thus had promised himself of revenge. He would hares her by
destroying her reports, he would rob her reports and as we know for every consignment a
report has to be presented thus this made her life for hell. Vanutha was uncomfortable to
report this to the management.
The company on finding out what has been happening TRANSFERRED Janardhan to
another manufacturing unit thus reducing Vanuthas problems drastically.
