Those absent should attend missed seminars with other groups. Students are required to get 60% of correct answers on multiple choice test in order to pass. Detailed grade scale will match general studies regulations. The questions will include below-described knowledge (p19). (17) Identification of the introductory courses and the preliminary requirements A. Formal requirements Basic immunology B. Preliminary requirements Student should be able to give basic facts: - on the macro- and microscopic structure of the human body, with special attention to the lymphatic system, - on the symptoms and signs diagnosed during physical examination, elucidated with laboratory and imaging examinations. (18) Course objectives The subject is intended to show the students immune background of medical conditions and the The subject is intended to show the students immune background of medical conditions and the ways immunology helps to diagnose and treat these diseases. Seminars cover the description of pathogenesis and symptoms of the diseases with immune background, immune assays performed routinely in the diagnostic process and therapeutic immune approaches applied in order to treat diseases. (19) Syllabus content Seminar The subject is intended to show the students immune background of medical conditions and the ways immunology helps to diagnose and treat these diseases. The main topics of the seminars include the following: Immunity and Infection Humoral diagnostics Cellular diagnostics Primary Immunodeficiencies Secondary Immunodeficiencies Tolerance and systemic autoimmune diseases Organ-specific inflammatory diseases Hypersensitivity Transplantation Immunotherapy
Student will obtain knowledge of the below mentioned area: 1. Genetical background of blood groups and serological conflict 2. Influence of biotic and abiotic factors on the human body 3. The process of the development of the immune system 4. Types of hypersensitivity 5. Types of immune deficiencies 6. Immune response to tumors 7. Definition of shock with special attention to septic shock 8. Genetic background of donor:recipient matching and transplant donation 9. Medicines influencing immune system: immunosuppressants, immunomodulators, sera and vaccines 10. New trends in the development of therapy with special attention to cellular therapies and gene therapies 11. (22) Knowledge Student has the knowledge of the immune, genetic and environmental background of the most common immune-mediated diseases. Student describes the major histocompatybility complex, knows the oversensitive reaction types, the immune deficiency types, and the basics of immomodulation. Student knows the genetic foundations of the donor- recipient selection, and the basics of transplantational immunology. Student knows the genetic determinants of the human blood group and the Rh serological conflict. student also knows the theoretical foundations and practical basis of the laboratory diagnostics. Student understand the influence of biotic and abiotic factors on the human body. (23) Skills Student should be able to properly apply diagnostic and research methods in the evaluation of diseases with immune background, properly interpret basic symptoms in physical examination and results of laboratory tests, performing differential diagnosis, presentation and critical evaluation of the results, offering of the therapy. Student plans the diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive procedure. Interprets laboratory tests and identifies the causes of the deviations. Decide about the need to perform molecular tests. (24) Social competencies (rudiments) Student gains the ability of autonomous and independent performing of particular tasks, communication skills, critical assessment of the scientific facts and discussion, open mind for new theories.
