EUROPEAN STANDARDS
6
FUEL EFFICIENCY CLASS
7 classes from G (lowest effciency)
to A (highest effciency).
The difference between Class G
and Class A can mean up to a 7.5%
fuel saving with a complete set of
tyres. Even more so in commer-
cial vehicles.
WET GRIP CLASS
7 classes from G (longest stop-
ping distance) to A (shortest stop-
ping distance).
During full braking, the difference
between Class A and Class G
can amount to up to a 30% shor-
ter stopping distance. This is, for
example, for an average car at
80 km / h approx 18 meters.
CLASS OF EXTERNAL
ROLLING NOISE
The black bars in the pictogram
describe the external rolling noi-
se of the tyre. The best value is
represented by one bar. With
this, the tyre is more than three
decibels below the European li-
mit. Two bars denote a tyre with
middle volume levels and three
bars a slightly louder tyre.

TYRE SAFETY TIPS

1. Tyre Pressure
With the correct tyre pressure you will retainmaximum
control over your vehicle, protect the tyres against pre-
mature wear and tear and also obtain the optimum level
of fuel consumption. The tyre pressure must correspond
to the prescribed values, depending on the load and the
type of use. These values can typically be found in the
Users Manual for the vehicle or on a notice on the ve-
hicle itself. The tyre pressure must be checked when the
tyres are cold. It is very important to ensure that the tyre
pressure is not reduced when the tyre is warm. For ve-
hicles that spend a long period of time parked or out of
action, the tyre pressure should be increased by 0.5 bar-
to reduce the load on the tyres. The tyre pressure must
be checked a minimum of once a month as well as be-
fore long journeys. When doing this, do not forget to also
check the spare wheel. Always remember that incorrect
tyre pressure will increase the risk of damage to the tyre,
reduce the lifespan of your tyre and will increase fuel
consumption.
2. Tread Depth
The legal minimum tread depth in many countries is
1.6mm (please always observe the national regulations).
Always remember that your safety and mobility is de-
pendent on the tread depth being suffcient, as, the lo-
wer the tread depth of the tyre, the higher the risk of
aquaplaning is. To ensure that there is suffcient safety
margin available, particularly in the case of rapidly alte-
ring weather conditions, summer tyres should be repla-
ced when they have a tread depth of 3mm or less and
winter tyres when they have a tread depth of 4mm (the
national regulations must also always be observed here).
3. Valves/Valve Caps
Valves and their components are made of rubber and
metal, which can wear out. Possible consequences of the
wear could include a loss of pressure in the tyre. Always
screw valve caps on tightly and replace immediately if
they are missing. It is essential to check that your valves
and valve caps are in a good condition to guarantee the
air-tightness of the tyre, that the correct tyre pressure is
maintained and to ensure a longer life expectancy for the
tyre. Additionally, there are special guidelines that must
be observed if Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS)
are used please get in contact with a specialist garage
for more information.
4. Wheel Balancing
Wheel balancing will prevent, among other things, the
premature ageing of the tyres and will also prevent vib-
rations. All wheels should be balanced as a precaution by
a garage in the spring and winter and after every change
of tyres.

5. Load and Speed
The vehicle must not be overloaded and the permissi-
ble values must be taken into account, particularly any
changes that may occur as a result of roof racks being
used or from the vertical load from attached trailers.
Overloading,too-low tyre pressure, excessive speed and
too high a temperature are all extremely dangerous for
tyres.
6. Damage to the Tyres
Tyres should be checked regularly for damage, such as
for foreign objects that have penetrated the tyre, gouges,
cuts, splits or warping in the side walls, for example. In-
truding foreign objects could also have damaged the tyre
internally so the damage should therefore be checked by
a specialist to investigate the possibility of repair. Tyres
should be replaced immediately if repairs are not possible.
7. Tyre Repairs
As a rule, repairs of all types should only be carried out
by specialist companies.Always ask an expert for advice,
which will ensure the safety of the procedures forftting,
removal, balancing and flling of the tyre. The tyre must
be examined in a disassembled condition to be able to
evaluate the damage to the tyre, as any possible damage
cannot be recognised from the outside. Specialist com-
panies will ensure that the tyres are handled correctly
and hence that they are used in the optimal manner. Spe-
cialist companies will ensure compliance with the natio-
nal regulations, the manufacturers guidelines as well as
the legal requirements in relation to the choice of tyre.
8. Tyre Age
Tyres age as a result of physical and chemical processes.
That is particularly true for tyres that are not used or are
only used very little. To counteract this process, materials
are added to the rubber compound that will reduce the
performance-reducing chemical reactions with oxygen
and ozone by the amounts required. It can therefore be
guaranteed that a tyre that has been stored correctly for
a number of years will meet the specifcations of a new
tyre and that its suitability for use has not been reduced.
It is recommended that tyres that are more than 8 years
old should only continue to be used when they have pre-
viously been continually in use under normal conditions.
These tyres should therefore not be removed again but
should remain in continual use. This is particularly true
for the old tyres of caravans. It is therefore recommen-
ded that these tyres should be replaced after 6 years,or
at the latest after 8 years.
9. Handlingand Storage
Even when your tyres are not in use, they can be expo-
sed to a number of dangers. Always store tyres in a cool,
dry and dark location.Tyres should never be stored on
top of each other for a long period of time when they are
not mounted.Do not place any other objects on the tyres.
Store the tyres without the wheel rims and in a standing
position. Avoid contact with petrol, oil and grease.

The markings on the sides of the tyres essentially describe
the following things
The size and specification of the tyre
Evidence that the tyre has been tested and meets legal safety
standards
205/55 R 16
205 = the tyre width in millimetres
55 = Aspect ratio, i.e. Ratio of the height to the width of a tyre
R = centrifugal design
16 = Rim diameter in inches
Load index (LI)
The load index is a numerical code that indicates the
maximum load that a tyre can sustain. 91 LI = 615 kg
Speed classifcation index (SI)
The speed classifcation index indicates the maximum
speed at which a tyre can be driven with full load.
V SI = 240 km/h
