My final studio project revolved around the colonization of mars and attempted to navigate the challenges of the unknown as well
as the friction between the fantasy of space and the harsh realities of a remote yet fascinating frontier. Nerio is a predominately
subterranean megastructure which is programmed to grow in similar ways to biological models.

The first set of diagrams illustrates the method by which a Harter-Heighway L-system curve is manipulated to enclose space,
while the second set shows how that initial set grows and then divides to extend its reach, and the reach of human knowledge.

SYNTHETIC DENDRITE
formulation + fabrication of L-System | WITH MICHAEL CHU, ALYSSA HAAS + JOANNA LONG-TIEU
This project explored the emergent complexity of simple lindemeyer systems. The team designed two components (constants)
and two rules (parameters). Components were prototyped out of acrylic sheet, coin batteries and LEDs then friction fit. The lack
of adhesive allowed for rapid assembly and dissasembly, and the physical response of the built form created stochastic variability.
g
For this luxury Altadore duplex I took a site with an existing house and prepared a design along a certain set of guidelines, as
well as complete sets of working drawings, permit application packages and revisions. Working within Calgarys land use bylaw
framework gave me confidence to independently navigate new territory and push my design rigor.

Througout the final two years of my masters degree I have been producing work for Studio Wolf Designs. The work ranges from
secondary suites, to infills and renovations and requires as-built drawings, construction drawings, 3-D models, renders and permit
applications as needed.
STUDIO WOLF DESIGNS

Greenplan gave me an opportunity to work on projects for a variety of clients including several first nations groups. In particular I
assisted in the modelling and working drawing production for Frog Lake and Sucker Creek pow-wow arbours, as well as a retreat
cabin for one of the Frog Lake chiefs.

GREENPLAN DESIGN
selected work from summer term in GreenPlan Design office
Construction drawings wre produced for both client meetings and
permit applications. Where futher visualization was helpful for the
client, 3-D models were produced in Sketchup or Rhino, and rendered
or animated as required.

Graphic design has become both a valuable skill and an engaging hobby which complements my architectural development. What
started with an innocuous predilection for helvetica has developed into a font collection of hard-drive crushing proportions. I enjoy
the ability to combine my artistic skill, technical expertise, and often sense of humour in my work. I especially enjoy graphic
design which employs free-form collages of concepts and references to historical visual styles - a preference I can easily attribute
to my BA in Art History.

Beyond exploring colours or textures, my artwork has given me the opportunity to constantly stretch my limits, and
challenge myself to do more and do better every day. Each new work is both a joy and a gruelling exercise in patience,
caution, discipline, and delayed gratification. I use painting as a lens to focus on the world in a different way.
