One similarity between these three organizations is that they all enable you to make

connections with others within that group. There is a similarity between the Miriam College Alumni
Association and the PSHS National Alumni Association that is not found in the Family. A
prerequisite to becoming a member of the alumni associations is that the applicant has to graduate
from that specific school. There are also some differences between the organizations. In the Family,
you are able to interact and connect with all the members. In the alumni associations, you are not
able to interact with the other members on a regular basis. You might interact with your friends
who are also a part of that organization, but you do not connect with the association as a whole.
Another difference is that in the Family, you have a specific role to fill. Perhaps you are the obedient
and hardworking daughter, or maybe you are the provider of the family. In the PSHS National
Alumni Association and the Miriam College Alumni Association, you do not have a specific role.

Discuss the positive and negative characteristics of a bureaucracy.
Bureaucracy is defined as a system of government n which most of the important decisions
are taken by state officials rather than by elected representatives. Like with most things in life,
bureaucracy has both positive and negative attributes. One of its positive characteristics is that it
has rules and regulations that must be strictly followed. Following the rules to the letter and
executing them consistently allows for control in the system. Another positive attribute of
bureaucracy is its organization. The system is organized because there is job specialization. People
are arranged depending on the type of work that they do. This characteristic maintains order in the
workplace. The impersonality of bureaucracy is also a positive aspect of it. Impersonality implies
that all workers in the system, as well as customers and clients, must be treated equally. This is a
positive trait because the equal treatment of every worker shows that the system is fair and just.
Another of its positive characteristics is the way the system hires its employees. They value the
qualifications of the employee rather than his or her connections and relationships.
Although bureaucracy does have a number of positive characteristics, it also has some
negative ones. One of these is caused by its strict adherence to rules. Because they follow a certain
set of rules, whenever they encounter a case that is not covered by these rules, they will have a
difficult time dealing with it. In connection to this, because they strictly obey rules and regulations,
opportunities for creativity are very little. Another negative characteristic of bureaucracy is its
hierarchical structure. Orders and instructions flow downward, from the person in the highest
position, to those in the lowest positions. In the process of disseminating the order, it is distorted
because it has already gone though a number of levels.
