Project saved 896,492 kWh in annual electric savings and

FlexTech Study - Evaluation of Aeration System Alternatives
Purpose: To evaluate aeration system alternatives that save
energy, reduce odors, and maintain or improve the Joint
Regional Wastewater Treatment Plants level of treatment.
Recommendations:
Alternative No. 1 - Replacement of existing mechanical aerators in kind.
Alternative No. 2 - Replacement of existing mechanical aerators, tank covers, and
odor control systems.
Alternative No. 3a - Replacement of existing mechanical aerators with a fine bubble
aeration system.
Alternative No. 3b - Replacement of existing mechanical aerators with a fine bubble
aeration system with automatic controls for nitrification/denitrification.

Incentives & Results:
NYSERDA provided $20,500 toward the $41,000 FlexTech
project
JRSB moved forward and installed Alternative No. 3b
reducing its energy costs while increasing water quality
Incremental Installation costs = $70,000
Average annual savings = $42,000/year
Simple payback period = 1.7 years

New Construction Program - Kiwanis Ice Arena
Recommendations:
Installation of high efficiency brine chiller
Installation of an infrared ice temperature monitoring system
Installation of a Smart Drive pumping system that reduced
pumping requirements and energy usage
Installation of reverse osmosis demineralization machine that
removes minerals from the water
Town of Saugerties
Initiatives & Results:
$49,961 in incentives provided by NYSERDA to help with
the installation of the recommended measures
The mechanical systems were replaced and a 7,640 square
foot locker room/rest room area was constructed
The Kiwanis Ice Arena will realize an estimated $25,000 in
annual energy savings
Town of Greenburgh
Westchester County
Photovoltaic Incentive Program
5.6 kW PV System on Town Hall
Primarily a demonstration system to increase public
awareness
PV system will generate approximately 6,840 kWh of
electricity annually and reduce emissions of CO2 by
an estimated 7,440 pounds a year
Town/Village of
New Paltz
Ulster County
14.85 kW PV system on the Department of Public
Works Building
3 systems connected to the utility grid to serve the
Village Hall, Village Fire Dept, and Town Police Dept
System cost $143,380; NYSERDA incentive $96,200
PV system will generate approximately 15,500 kWh
of electricity annually and reduce emissions of CO2
by over 14,270 pounds annually
