4.1. Significance and Use (Continued)
considerations. This specification is applicable to a maximum bar diameter of 2.5 inch (63.5 mil-
limeters).
Acceptance limits are statistically significant as described in CES 99020 unless specifically ex-
cepted.
4.2. Chemical Composition
Chemical composition shall be within the acceptance limits specified by Appendix A, Table 1, per
ASTM A751.
4.3. Physical Properties
There are no physical properties required by this specification.
4.4. Mechanical Properties
4.4.1. Hardness shall be 269 to 331 HB when measured in accordance with ASTM E10.
4.4.2. Tensile properties shall be as shown in Appendix A, Table 2 when tested in accor-
dance with ASTM E8.
4.4.2.1. Test on bars 1.0 inch (25 millimeters) and less shall be taken from center of bar.
4.4.2.2. Tests on bars between 1.0 inch (25 millimeters) and 1.5 inches (38 millimeters) will
be taken off-set to give approximately average properties.
4.4.2.3. Tests on bars 1.5 inches (38 millimeters) and over will be taken at mid-radius or
equivalent section.
4.5. Structure
4.5.1. Microstructure shall be tempered martensite.
4.5.2. Grain size shall be 5 to 8 when measured in accordance with ASTM E112.
