How to make Electrum Magicum for a Magic

Electrum Magicum Magic Mirror
What is Electrum Magicum?
Electrum Magicum is an alloy made out of seven corresponding
planetary metals known during the Middle Ages.
Due to the elief in the mental and spiritual worlds Alchemists
manufactured this alloy for is harmoni!ing magical properties.
"aracelsus a famous Alchemist and "hysician spoke aout this metal
and its eneficial use in making a Magic Mirror. However# it has also
een used for $nights armor and weapons.
However# in %ran! &ardons ook '(nitiation into Hermetic) he talks
aout Electrum Magicum. *isting the seven planetary metals with
the amounts recommended. However# in a much later
correspondence etween me and Dieter +uggeerg# it ecame clear
that fewer amounts could e used ut within the same ratio.
How do ( make Electrum Magicum?
Well this ,uestion can end up eing more complicated than at first it
would seem. %irst we will need to decide on the amount of differing
metals we wish to use. Armed with the power of the ratios we can
udget within reason on how much this e-periment will cost.
/o let us now focus on what amounts of metal we wish to use#
knowing that some are ,uite e-pensive and others hard to ac,uire.
(f we take a look at the %ran! &ardon formula we see the following#
01 grams of gold# 01 grams of silver# 23 grams of copper# 4 grams
of tin# 3 grams of lead# 0 grams iron and 23 grams of ,uicksilver or
mercury.
5umping ack in time to the life of "aracelsus we come across yet
another formula for Electrum Magicum with added coding for the
uninitiated. Electrum Magicum made of ten parts gold# ten parts
silver# five parts copper# two parts tin# two parts lead# one part of
powdered iron and five of mercury. However# unlike &ardon
"aracelsus gives much more detail in making Electrum Magicum
and how to e-periment in comining these metals.
After a rief review of these two formulae it soon ecome apparent
that dividing &ardons amounts y three give the same numers.
However# thats if you wish to view 'parts) in its roadest terms.
6his line of thinking would lead one to a more reasonale formula
that follows.
Electrum Magicum reasonale formula# 21 grams of gold# 21 grams
silver# five grams of copper# 7 grams of tin# 2.44 to 7 grams of lead#
2 gram of powdered iron and 3 grams of ,uicksilver or mercury. (ts
perfectly possile to super economies and divide these amounts
further y ten. However# we suddenly hit a rick wall even using
these reasonale amounts# having enough material to cast a mirror
in the first place.
6hanks to the discovery of other planets in our solar system and our
ever increasing knowledge of the 8niverse# ( decided to capture all
of this to aid the e-perimenter into Hermetics y adding an eighth
metal 'ismuth). 6his metal can e molded into any shape and take
into its self the Electrum Magicum wonderfully.
9ow we reach the ne-t stage in making Electrum Magicum and a
Magic Mirror : ;ommitment. *ike any e-periment in making a
magical device a certain amount of skill# daring and sacrifice are
re,uired.
%irst we need the purchase the different metals a ,uick search
online should help you to locate all if not most. 6he mercury can e
a challenge and would not advise in spending any money until you
have secured a small amount.
<nce all metals have een ac,uired make sure to purchase accurate
pocket electronic scales and childrens chemistry set. A =o! kiln#
handheld laser temp gun# kiln safety gloves# glasses and cleaning
fluids.
A cast iron mold the est ( have found is one for cooking eggs with >
perfectly shaped magic mirror molds.
"aracelsus states a common si!e for the mirror of around 7inc or
3cm not less.

6he time is now and careful planning must e carried out. &ut
hopefully these guidelines will assist in a satisfactory result.
However# there is some danger involved and the author takes no
responsiility for any accident or in?ury of the e-perimenter. (t would
e strongly advisale to otain a copy of %ran! Hartmann ook#)
6he *ife of "hilippus 6heophrastus &omast of Hohenheim# known
y the name of "aracelsus).
$nowledge of the melting and oiling points of all metals involved is
crucial for the successful making of an Electrum Magicum alloy.
Here is a simple list# ut please research this yourself@A

8sing the aove tale shows the danger of mercury reaching its
oiling point and needs to e considered carefully. E-perimentation
has shown that "aracelsus advice of melting the lead and adding
the mercury was an important clue in succeeding.
/tage one would e to melt the lead E tin together in a =o! kiln. "ull
out the plug and allow the molten li,uid temp to drop down elow

mercury is added at 03> ; or aove it will vapori!e instantaneously
and e reathed in or reAcondense in the surrounding area. 6his part
of the melting process is est done outside to avoid or reduce the
danger to yourself or home. However# at say 0=3 ; the mercury
should e added as the kilns temperature is falling lower y the
minute. (ts very important to carefully pour the molten li,uid metal
into a graphite mold# efore the melting point of lead is reached.
/tage one is completed with the mercury# lead and tin successfully
comined. /econd words of warning 'Do not under any
circumstances) add this alloy directly to molten metal in solid form
it will e-plode. 6he comined mercury will melt and then oil within
seconds not an e-periment to e repeated.
/tage two is far safer and less troulesome place the cast iron mold
on a gas urner melt the ismuth to the re,uired and shape of your
magic mirror. $eeping the ismuth molten reheat the mercury alloy
ut not too its oiling point and pour into the ismuth.
6hird stage melt the copper# gold and silver once melted pour again
into the ismuth. %inally# sprinkle the powdered iron into the
ismuth. 6urn off all heating to the mold and the ismuth will start
to rapidly cool and counter the increase in temperature from the
new added metal.
6his method ( have found seems to work very well. All that remains
is to polish the mirror to the re,uired luster.
( hope this work will help those that are interested in Electrum
Magicum and its e-perimentation.
