%he su##er internshi' 'rogra# can best be described as an atte#'t to institutionaliBe
efforts to bridge the ga' between the 'rofessional world and the acade#ic institutions.
<ntire effort in su##er internshi' is in ter#s of e=tending the 'rogra# of education and
e4aluation beyond the classroo# of a uni4ersity or institution. %he su##er internshi' is of
/!0 wee.s8 duration and is i#'le#ented during the su##er after the third year of the )
year >.%ech. 'rogra#. %he su##er internshi' 'rogra# is e='osure oriented and ai#s at
initiating and orienting the students to the 'rofessional world. +uring the 'rocess it
'ro4ides an o''ortunity for students to satisfy their inAuisiti4eness. %his circu#stance
e='oses the# to new analytical and technical s.ills to co##unicate with and to see.
infor#ation fro# the industry 'rofessionals. 5fter they ha4e been enriched with this .ind
of e='osure& the students can 'artici'ate #ore effecti4ely in the 'rofessional courses that

'rogra# and assessing the students8 'erfor#ance at 4arious organiBations has been gi4en.
%hese guidelines are 're'ared within the broad fra#e wor. of acade#ic regulations

7or su##er internshi'& a student registers for the course D.$//er (!*er!.h(0C. %he
registration ta.es 'lace at the institute :ust after or during the <nd!%er# e=a#inations of
the /%3 $<M<$%<R. 9lease refer to the guidelines for registration gi4en se'arately.
%he students should reach the su##er training organiBation on the first day of the start of
the su##er internshi' 'rogra#. %he "R" should ha4e co#'lete infor#ation of the
students of 5$<% and the organiBations where they are reAuired to 'ursue the su##er
internshi'. %his infor#ation should be furnished on a 'rescribed 9erfor#a. It is #andatory
that all students register with "R" as 'er the date decided or before the students lea4e the
ca#'us for su##er training.

suggested that 'rior to :oining the su##er training the student should beco#e fa#iliar

'rogra#s of the organiBation by referring to 4arious annual re'orts& #anuals etc. %he
student should beco#e fa#iliar with the organiBation structure& 'rocesses in4ol4ed by
4isiting 4arious de'art#ents& sho' floors& or interacting with industry guide other
#e#bers of the de'art#ents& attending orientation lectures by the organiBational e='erts. It
is a good idea for the faculty guide to conduct a AuiB and test as well as as. the students to

be later con4erted into an o'en!ended 'ro:ect or assign#ent. %he strength of the internshi'

ti#e inter4als of the internshi'. %he faculty #ay chal. out (de'ending on the students8
needs) the detailed 'rogra# in this regard after identifying and consulting 4arious
'rofessional e='erts in the organiBation. It is good idea to conduct AuiBBes and grou'
discussions on the basis of these ga' lectures.

e4aluation. 3owe4er& care should be ta.en to see that obser4ations are related so#e way
with the 4arious facets of internshi' 'rogra#. %he #ar.s allocated for this continuous

%his also 'ro4ides a wonderful o''ortunity for the faculty to study and e4aluate the

to be 'eriodical& 'referably a daily affair. >oth the faculty and student should understand
the 'hiloso'hy behind recording in a diary. It is an atte#'t to culti4ate the habit of
docu#entation and to encourage hi#her to search for details. It #ay include the students
own thought 'rocesses and reasoning abilities. %he faculty #e#ber should chec. and sign

faculty should tell students& within 2 to 3 days of holding a co#'onent of e4aluation the
#ar.s obtained& the students8 good 'oints and also their deficiencies. 3e$he should also
tell the# the ways to i#'ro4e u'on their 'erfor#ance.

5t the end of internshi' 'rogra# when all the #ar.s obtained by a student on 4arious
