Kinds of Angles
1. Zero Angle exactly 0
2. Acute Angle < 90
3. Right Angle exactly 90
4. Obtuse Angle >90 but <180
5. Straight Angle exactly 180

90 =

= 100 grades = 1600 mills

Complementary angles are angles whose sum is 90
Supplementary angles are angles whose sum is 180
Explementary angles are angles whose sum is 360

Kinds of Triangles According to Sides
1. Isosceles Triangle triangle having 2 equal
sides
2. Scalene Triangle - triangle with no equal sides
3. Equilateral triangle All sides are equal

Kinds of Triangles According to Angles
1. Acute Triangle all angles are acute
2. Right Triangle a triangle having a right angle
3. Obtuse Triangle - a triangle having an obtuse
angle
TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS OF POSITIVE ACUTE ANGLES

The side opposite of the right angle is the hypotenuse and it is the
longest side; the side opposite of the angle observed is the opposite
side, and the side adjacent to it other than the hypotenuse is the adjacent
side. The angles are represented by uppercase letters while the sides by
lower case letters.

6 TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS
1. Sine function = ratio of the opp. side to the hypotenuse ; Sin A =

; Sin B =

2. Cosine function = ratio between adj. side and the hypotenuse ; Cos A =

; Cos B =

3. Tangent function = ratio between opp. side and adj. side ; Tan A =

; Tan B =

4. Cotangent function = reciprocal of tangent function ; Cot A =

; Cot B =

5. Secant function = reciprocal of cosine ; Sec A =

; Sec B =

6. Cosecant function = reciprocal of sine ; Csc A =

; Csc B =

SIMILAR TRIANGLES

Similar triangles are triangles with the angles of one equal to the
corresponding angles of the other.

The corresponding sides of similar triangles are proportional.

The ratio of any two sides of one similar triangle is equal to the ratio of the corresponding sides of the other.

The acute angles A and B of the right triangle ABC are complementary, that is A + B = 90. Comparing the
trigonometric functions of acute angles A and B, we will see that,
Sin A = Cos B ; Sin B = Cos A
Tan A = Cot B ; Tan B = Cot A
Sec A = Csc B ; Sec B = Csc A

Angle of Elevation and Depression

Angle of elevation is the angle formed between the line of sight to the object
above the line of sight and the horizontal. If the object is below the eye of
the observer , then the angle formed between the line of sight to the object
and the horizontal is called the angle of depression.

Bearings
Bearings are directions in terms of the points of the compass, that is, the angles which objects make with the
north-south line
True bearing is the angle measured from the north.

LOGARITHM
The logarithm of a number to a given base is equal to the exponent to which the base must be raised to yield
the number.

OBLIQUE TRIANGLES
An oblique triangle is any triangle that is not a right triangle. It could be an acute triangle (all three angles of the
triangle are less than right angles) or it could be an obtuse triangle( one of the tree angles is greater than a
right angle.)

LAW OF SINES

In any triangle, the ratio of any one side to the sine
of its opposite angle is constant.

COSINE LAW
In any triangle, the square of any one side equals
the sum of the squares of the other two sides
diminished by twice their product to the cosine of
its included angle
