Aids to Accurate Imitation
1. Perceptive Listening- Imitation may be more accurate if the student will learn to listen more
carefully, will learn to be more perceptive, so that he will be conscious of all the pecuiarities he
is to imitate.
2. Mastery of a System of Representing Sounds- making use of a system of representing sound, in
much the same way the Webster dictionaries make use of diacritical system to write out word
pronunciation.
3. Knowledge of the Characteristics of Each Sound- Knowing what to do with the lips, tounge and
other vocal organs.
INTERNATIONAL PHOENETIC ALPHABET (IPA)
- most effective in most speech improvement classes
-use to facilitate the study of the oftentimes puzzling relationship between English spelling and
pronunciation.
a. One letter may have more than one pronunciation.
b. One sound may be represented by different letters.
- IPA makes use of only ONE SYMBOL to represent one sound, no matter how differently it is spelled.
- It provides a common denominator for the pronunciation of sound in any language.
STUDENTS AIM
1. Intelligibility the student must aware of his need for distinct articulation. Distinctness of
speech requires flexibility and agility in the organs of articulation.
2. Acceptable Pronunciation pronunciation in general refers to the choice of sounds in forming
words while articulation refers to the formation of sounds and syllables.
General American most practical standard for Filipinos.

1. Good Voice the student is at least expected to speak with a voice that does not interfere with
effect communication.
-CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD VOICE-
a. a good voice is loud enough to be easily heard by listeners.
b. a good voice must be pleasant for agreeable.
c. a good voice must be flexible
d. a good voice together with the distinct articulation must come together with a general ease of
hearing.

-CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD SPEAKER-
a. a good speaker must speak at an average pitch level he/she can produce with the least effort.

b. a good speaker must never sound affected.

-CHARACTERISTIC OF GOOD SPEECH-
a. unaffected freedom
