What you eat can greatly affect your health and well-being. Scientific studies
have shown time and again that choosing healthy foods can reduce the risk of heart
disease, cancer, and other diseases. This is where the nutrient intake plays a vital role
in a persons life. For an instance, when a person experienced a malnutrition, it is either
undernutrition; any condition resulting from an energy or nutrient intake below that
which meets nutritional needs, and overnutrition; poor nutritional status resulting from
an energy or nutrient intake in excess of that which is optimal for health.
It is important for us to know the amount of nutrients consumed by our body.
There are six classes of nutrients chemically; carbohydrates, lipid, protein, water,
vitamin and lastly, mineral. Each one of these nutrients is very essential in our body as
they are already specialized in their own functions. For an example, carbohydrates
provide the body with a source of fuel and energy. Besides that, proteins are for building
and repair of body tissues in human body. When we acknowledge the importance of
each nutrient, then we can plan a healthy and balanced diet. Nutrition research has
focused on chronic diseases associated with energy or nutrient excess. To some
excess intake of lipids can lead to obesity and to get things more worse, high sugar and
cholesterol can lead to heart disease which is the top first cause of death according to
studies conduct in the United States.
Well, eating a healthy diet with the right amount of
calories is good for health and may help to lower the risk of
cancer (diabetes and heart diabetes). However, we can do
more by adding foods that may prevent fatal diseases, into
our diet; blueberries that are rich in vitamins and minerals,
carrots which contain large amounts of beta-carotene, an antioxidant that can be
converted to vitamin A and falcarinol, green tea that also have lots of antioxidants called
catechins, plus, this green tea contains no calories, next, tomatoes offer potassium,
vitamin C, vitamin A and lycopene( a powerful antioxidant that can lower risk of cancer),
lastly, apples are a good source of vitamin C, fiber, phytochemicals called flavonoids
and phenolic acids.

Now that we have identified what the nutrients are, we have to choose foods
wisely according to the calories and fats that they contain. This is the right way to make
sure every single food that we consumed do not have high risk of causing cancer, heart
disease and so on. If we start to plan out the healthy diets from now, for sure, this can
be very functional and beneficial at the same time to us when we get older and older in
the future. There are many cases lead to death that causes by unhealthy food, such as
junk foods, foods containing high sugar and cholesterol and so on.
Most of the people nowadays do not realize how crucial it is to follow a healthy
diet as they are too busy with works. These people should not have ignored the plan to
eat healthy foods that contain enough nutrients and calories. According to some
research, people that are always busy with their work life do not have the right and
proper meal. They tend to just pick any foods that are easy to make and easy to eat
such as fast foods; McDonalds, KFC and others. Those types of foods contain a lot of
sugar and cholesterol that can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease and of course,
cancer. Other than that, the highly amount of cholesterol and fats taken can cause
obesity. This is the reason why we can see many people these days, mostly from the
United States are obese. They can get as much oily, sugar food as they want there.
Perhaps, if our people do realize the importance of being healthy in the current
time and the future, the statistics of death that is caused mainly by foods can be
reduced. If we already have a great and balanced diet in present, we can grow older
healthily in the future.
In conclusion, we need to maintain our ideal body weight and balance the
number of calories we eat each day. Other than that, we can ask a dietitian or a health
care professional to help us with it. Good foods guaranteed a good life within the past,
present and the future. A healthy life in the present can be passing to the future by
generations and generations.
