Training & Evaluation
“During these free training sessions, families learned how to report
child abuse and about the counseling and other services that are available to help
them recover,” said Donna Russow, project director.

The PPCA Arms Around Our Children project, funded by a $1.8 million U.S. Department of
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, was a two-year program designed to
increase the well-being and safety of children and to reduce juvenile delinquency in Metro
Louisville. In applying for the grant, PPCA had promised the Justice Department that it
would train at least 1,500 families in child abuse prevention and provide specialized
abuse-recovery treatment to at least 150 children.

“Through this grant, we were able to train more than 2,700 children and nearly 1,000
adults in our area, taking a step in the right direction to prevent child abuse. Educating
people about what constitutes abuse and what to do if abuse is suspected is how we stop
abuse. We hope to continue these training programs in the future through private grants.”
Russow said.

The Partnership offered a variety of training sessions, including “Keep’em Safe” and
“Internet Safety,” two of the most popular programs for children, and “Stewards of
Children,” designed for adults who lead organizations that serve youth.
