Using Artistic Language in Your IWB
Week 1 Lesson 1- Art Practical
Unit One-
Identity and Sense of Self

How can Art be used to express individual
and cultural identity?

We will be starting with our physical Identity so we will all need a
small mirror that stands up for our next lesson.

During this first unit we will be exploring the above question and
forming our own answers, opinions and outcomes.
Warm Up!
The artist painted this self
portrait shortly after the death of
his friend, it was the beginning of
his Blue period of painting.

The artist tragically died at the
age of 26, this self portrait
reflects his drug addiction and
frenzied lifestyle.

This self portrait has been likened
to the face of a dead man.

The artist was the most famous
Mexican artist.

The artist said I have never
considered my works as being
disturbing the viewers did!

The artist recently sold this self
portrait for 198,000 most of his
work can be found on walls!

What are some things that reflect a sense of self that you can start collecting?
Birth certificate? Photocopy all these
Passport?
old photos?
I.D cards/learners?
Family tree?
Photos?
Objects: toy cars, stuffed animals, clothes, accessories?

We are going to use these objects in a few weeks so

How do I want people to see me?

How can I express my many different sides?

How can I reinvent myself for various purposes or times in
my life?

How am I changing from day to day or year to year?
