Engineering
is the application of scientific, economic, social, and practical knowledge in order
to invent, design, build, maintain, and improve structures, machines, devices,
systems, materials and processes. The discipline of engineering is extremely
broad, and encompasses a range of more specialized fields of engineering, each
with a more specific emphasis on particular areas of applied science, technology
and types of application.

Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design,
construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment,
including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. Civil engineering
is the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering Civil
engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national
governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to
international companies.
Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of
engineering, physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing,
and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that
involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design,
production, and operation of machines and tools. It is one of the oldest and
broadest engineering disciplines.
Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study
and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. This field first
became an identifiable occupation in the latter half of the 19th century after
commercialization of the electric telegraph, the telephone, and electric power
distribution and use. Subsequently, broadcasting and recording media made
electronics part of daily life. The invention of the transistor and, subsequently, the
integrated circuit brought down the cost of electronics to the point where they can
be used in almost any household object.

Electronic engineering is an engineering discipline where non-linear and active
electrical components such as electron tubes, and semiconductor devices,
especially transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, are utilized to design
electronic circuits, devices and systems, typically also including passive electrical
components and based on printed circuit boards. The term denotes a broad
engineering field that covers important subfields such as analog electronics, digital
electronics, consumer electronics, embedded systems and power electronics.
Industrial engineering is a branch of engineering which deals with the optimization
of complex processes or systems. It is concerned with the development,
improvement, implementation and evaluation of integrated systems of people,
money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, materials, analysis and
synthesis, as well as the mathematical, physical and social sciences together with
the principles and methods of engineering design to specify, predict, and evaluate
the results to be obtained from such systems or processes.
An Engineer is a professional practitioner of engineering, concerned with applying
scientific knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to develop solutions for technical,
societal and commercial problems. Engineers design materials, structures, and
systems while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation,
safety, and cost. The word engineer is derived from the Latin roots ingeniare ("to
contrive, devise") and ingenium ("cleverness").
