CHAPTER I

PROJECT CONTEXT
Montessori Professional College is one of the colleges whose privilege is to give
quality education to every student. It always secures the best way to make students comfortable
with the school. Currently, the school is using manual method in terms of encoding and
releasing of grades, updating and notifying students regarding the grades and accounts and
updating student records.
Online Academic Student Information System with SMS and Mobile Application for
Montessori Professional College will provide efficiency for every students and school
administrators. The researchers intend to study the following operations; study and develop the
manual operation by the office of the registrar; find out what are the circumstances that causes
the delay of releasing of grades; minimize the time consumption in searching for the grades of
the students; check the unpaid payments, outline the school calendar of activities and view
personal information of each students. SMS and mobile application using android phone can
be used to ease the difficulty in knowing the grades. Since mobile phone seems to be a positive
feature which most individuals posses and take almost in all places with them, it is therefore an
extremely effective means of transporting information to students quicker and easier. Through
SMS Notification, every student will be notified regarding the date of payments that need to be
settled in the accounting office Students will be informed if their grades are already encoded
and updated. In mobile application, only android phones can access the said application for the
school. With the mobile application, students will log-in their student ID number to access their
records, view directly their grades, academic performance, and payment dues.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main objective of this project is to design and develop an Online Academic
Student Information System with SMS and Mobile Application for Montessori Professional
College.
The project aims the following:
To easily notify the students concerning their accounts and grades.
To provide an additional service in checking students information both for the students
and instructors.
To be able to assist the instructors in encoding the grade of their students online.
To minimize the inquiries of the students at the registrars office.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
The administrator can add, edit, or delete user account of the system.
The students will be provided a log-in account to access their grades and personal
information online or through mobile.
The instructors will be given an account to be able to encode the grades of their students
online/mobile.
The system can add, edit, or delete students and instructors information.
The system can add, edit, or delete subjects and class schedules.
The system can notify the students through SMS.
The system has a search engine to engine search subject, instructors, or students record.
The instructors can change their password to secure the encoding of grades of the students
in the system.
The administrator can print the summary of grades of the students and print the records of
the instructor.
The instructors can print their records including the subjects and grades of the students they
handled.

The system automatically back up the database using cache.
The system will have a server in the administrators office.

LIMITATION:
Enrolment process is not included in the system.
Payment is not included in the system.
Parents cant access the system and mobile app except if they know the students
account.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study was made to find out that the use of online based system will lessen the time
for the transaction of encoding and releasing the grades of the students. This study will benefit the
following person:

1. Professors it can help them to encode the grades through online system in most easy and
convenient time.
2. Students it can help them to inquire their grades in a more efficient way. They can view the
summary of their grades through web and mobile.
3. Registrar it can help them to lessen their tasks in preparing of summary of grades of the
students. Also, through the use of the system, the inquiries at the registrars office will be lessen.
4. To the Parents/Guardians it can help them monitor the grades of their children
5. To the Future Researchers through this project it can help them as a guide to enhance more
for their future researches.
