Cars are made to get us from A to B, but they also awaken dreams and desires. From the very rst
sketch right through to production, the sensuous lines of the New Renault Clio are the very essence of
pure seduction. Born from the DeZir concept car presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 2010,
the New Renault Clio retains all of its style and emotion. From its dynamic lines to its personality, which
shines through from every detail, everything contributes to its charisma.
The minute I took over as the head of Renault design, I was given one simple piece of advice: to design
beautiful cars. This short sentence kicks off Renault's goal today: renewal. I interpreted it as a story in which each vehicle
represents an important point in our adult lives. Clio represents the "lightning bolt" experience of that rst encounter. The
idea of a young, sexy, sporty car with an innate and unrivalled sense for practical day-to-day life.
Thought of as a sculpture, the New Renault Clio is an object of desire with an almost human sensuality. Its muscle structure
and curves express the dynamism of the concept car. No sharp angles, just curves that make you want to get closer and
caress it.

The New Renault Clio is the rst model tted with Renaults rst 3-cylinder turbo
engine, the 66kW Turbo Petrol Engine, a new engine that combines driving
pleasure and outstanding practicality. This all aluminium 3-cylinder 898cm
engine ensures efcient pick-up and acceleration at all speeds. Featuring a very
low inertia turbo (the lowest on the market) combined with Variable Valve Timing
(VVT), the 66kW Turbo Petrol Engine boasts of the best driving enjoyment and
fuel economy equation on the market.
Around town, driving is pleasant as 90% of the maximum torque (135Nm) is available
from 1650rpm, meaning you don't need to change gear too often. Equipped with
Stop&Start, it offers reduced fuel consumption (in a combined cycle) of 4.5 l/100 km*.
The CO
2
emissions are extremely low at only 105 g/km*.

The 66kW Turbo Petrol Engine features a range of technologies to reduce
fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Stop & Start. Automatically turns off the engine when the vehicle is stopped
and in neutral. The engine is restarted by pressing the clutch pedal to put it in
gear. The driver can choose to manually deactivate the system.
Energy Smart Management (ESM) optimises electricity consumption
and recharges the battery using the kinetic energy recovered when braking
and decelerating.
Vent Control. Optimises the vehicle's aerodynamics by adapting the ow of
air through the radiator (source of aerodynamic resistance) to the engine's
cooling needs. When driving normally or on the motorway, closing the vents
interrupts the air ow, helping to improve fuel economy.
ECO Mode. The advantage of eco mode is that it helps the driver cut fuel
consumption by letting the vehicle optimise consumption sources. The system
acts on the parameters limiting torque, engine power, acceleration pedal control
patterns and the management of thermal control (regulated air conditioning).
Savings can total up to 10% for a dynamic drive.

WHY A 3-CYLINDER
TURBO ENGINE?
DOWN IN SIZE BUT NOT DOWN IN POWER.
Downsizing is a technique which involves reducing the cubic capacity of an engine in order to reduce fuel consumption, while maintaining performance
thanks to turbocharging. The resulting saving in fuel consumption is estimated to be 5%.
Removing a cylinder reduces friction by 20% compared with a 4-cylinder engine architecture of the same cubic capacity, leading to a 4% saving in fuel consumption.
The 3-cylinder pulse, combined with a longer exhaust phase, is twice as powerful as that of an equivalent 4-cylinder engine.
This natural turbocharging means that less demand is made of the turbo which in turn is more effcient, directly benefting fuel consumption.
F1 TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER.
Turbo Technology was frst introduced in F1 in 1977.
High Tumble Strategy: optimised fow of the fuel mix inside the combustion chamber for fast, stable combustion; the air turns quicker in the chamber (twice on
average) which this allows a near instantaneous combustion.
High Tech Surface Treatments: Camshaft tappets with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) & Graphite-Coated Pistons are surface treatments used in F1 that signifcantly
reduce friction and improve energy efciency.

storage. To make it easy to transport long or bulky items, the 1/3-2/3 splitfold bench seat
comes as standard. The New Renault Clio also has a boot volume of 300dm, the best
