dia rebar pin. All Load carrying props should have min 12mm dia rebar pin in it. No 8mm pin should be allowed to use at start of work, supervision need to increase. Slab / beam props cannot rest on murrum. They should rest on planks / ply, of width more than the base plate. If the beam bottom ply has a joint, then an extra prop has to be provided, under the joint. the centre, the extra prop should be attached to the inner & not to the outer, otherwise deflection will take place.
advisable because if they fall in the beam, during concreting, it is nearly impossible to remove them after deshuttering.
In places where there is double staging of props, it is mandatory to have a prop below a prop & not staggered. from the preceding lift. This is wrong as it can take the whole shaft out of plumb. Plumb pts should be marked at the GL & all plumb, for all further lifts, to be taken from those pts only. While checking the plumb it should be taken from a single refferance point which is mark on ground floor lift. Slab props not in plumb. While levvelling of slabs and beams bottom shutter all props should checked for its plumb. top. For any Col or Lift Pardi, when filled for the above height, should have cover blocks at 3 levels..1 from bottom..1 from top..& one in- between. cover blocks should be provided at the middle level and top level of column height when the starte for it is casted. Cover blocks should be checked while checking the reinforcement of column and lift walls. Bars used for Lift Staging & then abandoned, in every bldg. Reinforcement barsh should not be allowed to use as support for lift shuttering. long should be inserted between the lacings to prevent the inner slipping from the outer. Moreover the inner should be supported with prop, to prevent deflection Process checking should be done Wherever the bolts of the spans are missing, they should be wedged. Process checking should be done Reinforcement
All Reinforcement ring ends ( Hooks ) to be bent @ 1350 Before shuttering all rings to be checked. in case of ext beams, the reinf on the ext face should pass from the inside of the col reinf, so that it does not break the cover & get exposed. Process checking should be done Reinforcement bars used for fixing the starter should be cut off after concreting and its end should be coated with anti-rusting chemical. straightened, distribution steel tied & the resultant mesh to be treated with an anti-rusting chemical, to protect it during the monsoon season. side by side. Delay results in breaking of dowel bars & add expense of re- barring.
on the reinforcement. This is not acceptable. The said reinf to be cleaned with petrol, before concreting. Before starting reinforcement work formwork should be cleaned and oiled. Once reinforcement work started do not allow workers to carry shuttering oil in that area. Shuttering oil should be stored in cans. Dowel bars, for podium, at the wrong level Before concrete level of dowels bars should be check. Cut bars & full length bars are left, abandoned, on the 1st slab when work is going on 3rd or 4th slab Reinforcement should not be left below the casted floor it should be immidiately shifted to the working floor. Laps in cols & lift pardi not staggered Process checking should be done
Cover blocks of wrong size
Process checking should be done
Steel chairs, used in slab reinf, should be tied such that each leg is resting on 2 bars of the slab reinf, so that they dont topple over, while concreting. Process checking should be done
Pre- Concrete added, by bucket, in an adhoc manner. This makes a mockery of the Mix design & water/ cement ratio. Moreover, this type of local conc is not supervised (lack of staff) & left to the discretion of the mixer driver. Before start of local conc, make sure that the said bldg is connected to a genset & the cable is OK, so that incase of power failure the changeover is fast & smooth. monitor the concrete mixer, for correct implementation of mix design. that the moisture content is determined every day. In order to preserve the sanctity of the mix design, necessary corrections should be made in the qty of water & aggregates.
During Monsoon or in case when aggregates are wet, the concrete should be started only after receiving recipe from quality department. Elec conduits bunched up will not allow conc to flow Process checking should be done. Min 1" gap should be kept between two conduits. When a beam is partly filled, then a vert stopper is to be used, in 3 parts so that a key is formed for the next pour. Process checking should be done During Concrete One of the contractors is concreting without using a water dispenser. This makes a mockery of the mix design & water cement ratio goes for a toss. In any case no concrete should be allowed without water dispencer. Before starting concrete all machines and equipment to be checked and all should be in working condition. immediately after casting, resulting in one case, where the reinf has lost its cover & shifted to one side, causing roblems in the tying of floor beams. All Columns should be checked immidiately after casting for its verticality and cover to reinforcement. While concrete batching, a supervisor should monitor the batching process for exact loading of raw materials & addition of water. The top layer of columns and wall concrete should not be over vibrated, as it will result in a weak layer of only cement mortar. 20 mm metal should be pressed in this layer, while the concrete wet, to form a proper construction joint. All sunken portions, which are exposed to water, viztoilet slabsterrace slabsroof slabpodium slabs exposed to sky..should be trowelled smooth, while the concrete is still wet & then scratched, after an hour, to form a key for the next treatment of W/proofing. This particular exercise ensures that the sunken portion is 95 % water proofed, at this stage & forms the first line of water resistance. Post- Concrete
Col reinf to be cleaned of residual conc, before tying of beam reinf. Close all honeycombings of RCC members, below plinth, before back filling.
Const jts to be chipped & loose materials should be removed immediately on de-shuttering, before concrete gains strength. reinf pattern. This is due to.either less cover to the top reinf ..OR .. over vibration. This should be rectified by pouring cement slurry in the cracks & layering the P/beam top with a layer of cement plaster. In case of less cover to p/Beams from top increase the height of beam to ensure the proper cover at top. No overvibrations to be done in plinth beams. Curing of concrete is most important. Dont do any new concreting activity, if sufficient amount of water is not available for curing. Hacking of slab & beams needs to be speeded up. Delay causes the conc to gain more & more strength, thus making hacking superficial. Additional expense of bonding chem., should be avoided. the lift pardi cannot, under any circumstance, be allowed to bulge on the inside. The shaft, from the inside has to be true in line, level, & plumb. Do not allow shuttering of lift walls without tie rods in it. Process checking should be done Beam bottom not leveled
Staircase Col not in line & plumb
Col cap out of plumb
Col cap not cleaned before concreting
Ext beams are curved
At a no of places, the pipe sleeves are placed wrong
Elec conduits in the middle of window & door openings
When grouting of box type w/proofing is bal, the top gap should be protected, by inserting hessian cloth, so that the murrum filling does not enter the gap. If it does it is nearly impossible to remove. It seems that for 90 % of all our problems there is only one solution SUPERVISION.SUPERVISION & more. SUPERVISION
