Chorus Chorus
Have a little talk with Jesus, Savior, Savior, hear my humble cry;
Tell Him all about our troubles, While on others Thou art calling,
Hear our faintest cry, answer by and by; Do not pass me by.
Feel a little prayer wheel turning,
Know a little fire is burning, Verse II
Find a little talk with Jesus makes it right, Let me at a throne of mercy
Makes it right. Find a sweet relief;
Kneeling there in deep contrition,
Verse II Help my unbelief.
Sometimes my path seems drear, without a ray of cheer, (Repeat Chorus)
And then a cloud of doubt may hide the light of day;
The mists of sin may rise and hide the starry skies, Verse III
But just a little talk with Jesus clears the way. Trusting only in Thy merit,
(Repeat Chorus) Would I seek Thy face;
Heal my wounded broken spirit,
Verse III Save me by Thy grace.
I may have doubts and fears, (Repeat Chorus)
My eyes be filled with tears,
But Jesus is a friend who watches day and night; Verse IV
I go to Him in prayer, He knows my ev’ry care, Thou the Spring of all my comfort,
And just a little talk with Jesus makes it right. More than life to me,
(Repeat Chorus) Whom have I on earth beside Thee?
Whom in heav’n but Thee?
(Repeat Chorus)
P
alm Sunday brought a feeling of hope fulfilled. As people in Jerusalem spread coats and leafy
branches on Jesus’ path and shouted “Hosanna,” they saw His arrival as evidence of Jesus’
coming reign. Yet, history tells us hardship still lay ahead, and Christ’s kingship was to be
different than they expected.
What do we do when, at last, we see signs that our own hope will indeed be fulfilled? The first
thing is to enjoy it. Jesus knew that He would not become the earthly ruler of Israel. Yet, He took
part in the drama, because it symbolized the importance of His mission. The second thing to do is to
interpret the signs correctly. If we are ill and a test reveals signs of healing, it does not mean that we
are instantly whole and fully well again. However, the news is significant and reassuring. The actions
of the Palm Sunday crowd were evidence that people were hearing Jesus’ message.
The glimpsed fulfillment of our hopes today should be reassuring and an indication that things
will be better. If we have taken time during Lent to look at our lives and redirect them into a more
productive course, a fresh feeling of peace and accomplishment may help us feel that it has all been
worthwhile. However, it is perilous to stop short. While the old saying is true that “Well begun is
half done,” we still have to do the other half.
Palm Sunday should lift our spirits and let us know that the path of faith is a rewarding one. But
we need more than a glimpse of fulfillment. Walking with Jesus at our side, we need to work at the
ongoing task of building a new life.
O
ne of the greatest blessings of my call to the Conference was the privilege and joy of
being introduced to Trinity and then becoming part of the Trinity family. Your witness
for Christ has profoundly shaped my own journey of discipleship, and I give heartfelt
thanks to God and for your gifts to my life and ministry. So it was an astonishment
when I also received your gift of farewell to me as Conference Minister. Thank you so very much for
that expression of love and support.
Though I will no longer be your Conference Minister, Matt and I continue to be proud,
committed and joyful members of the Trinity UCC church family. We hold you in our hearts and
prayers and will continue to stay connected through the Spirit (and Internet!).
Thanks be to God for all of you, for Pastor Wright and for Pastor Moss. May God continue to
multiply your gifts for the good of Christ’s mission.
“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil and, after fasting forty days and
forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones
to become loaves of bread.” —Matthew 4:1– 3
Fasting has been used throughout the ages to prepare the people of God for the great things God has in
store for them. As we pray through this season of transition and Divine imagination, I am calling, I am asking, I
am requesting the entire church to become involved in some form of prayer and fasting. With all of the attacks
upon our church and upon our Senior Pastor, it is crucial we, as a church, renew ourselves through prayer and
through fasting. The following are several types of fasts that can be used to develop spiritual power and clarity.
Fast #2 – The Daniel Fast. Taken from the Book of Daniel. When Daniel was captured by the
Babylonians, he asked the Babylonians if he along with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, could fast, eating
only fruits and vegetables so they would be prepared to confront the Babylonian king.
Weeks 1 and 2: All meals before 6:00 p.m.
Weeks 3 and 4: Eat only 2 meals a day before 6:00 p.m.
Weeks 5 and 6: Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m.
Week 7: Eat 1 meal a day before 6:00 p.m. Meat may be added.
Week 8: Eat 2 meals a day before 6:00 p.m. Meat may be added.
Week 9: Eat 3 meals a day before 6:00 p.m.
Week 10: Set aside 1 day during the week to eat only fruits and vegetables.
There is peace that comes when the lowering clouds burst and the whole landscape is drenched in rain,
refreshing and cool.
O God, we come to you. There is peace that comes when gnawing hunger finds intimate fulfillment in food,
nourishing and life-giving. O God, we come to You. There is peace that comes when hours of sleeplessness are
swallowed up in sleep. We are calm and we are relaxed. O God, we come to you. We come to you, praying for
our church, a church of love and of power and of transformation. A church under attack!
We come to You, knowing we clearly understand the walk Jesus took up the hill of Golgotha to be crucified,
lynched and executed for the great work He had done during His ministry.
O God, we come to You. You are a God of Power. You are a God of strength; but most importantly, You are
a God of love. We are a people created in love, and we will live our lives in love. We will present love to those
who claim to be our enemies but are still children of the most-high God. We will reach within to our internal
resources that You have placed in our minds and in our spirits to create the kind of responses and ministries that
will bless those in our community and in the wider world.
We thank You for the pressure You put upon us, for it is through pressure that You create diamonds out of
coal. We thank You for the pressure, for it is through the pressure You place upon our spirits that cause us to
grow as we go through this period of prayer and fasting. Empower us to see Your love, Your spirit, Your message
with clarity.
Bind every sector of Trinity United Church of Christ together as pastor and people, as children committed to
Christ. Bind us together wherever we may come from, whatever our social location. We pray for unity. We pray
for strength, but we pray that the love of Jesus Christ will shine through our spirits.
Anoint every room in the church that our children will experience the love of God when they come to the
nursery, to Children’s Church, to sing, and to be tutored. Anoint every room our seniors will enter into that
they will feel loved, empowered and cared for. Most of all, anoint our sanctuary that every person whether they
be a member, whether they be someone looking for a story, will be infected and affected by the Spirit of the
most-high God that rests in Your house. Empower the leadership that we may lead with the mind of Christ.
We thank You in advance for what You are going to do with us through this period of prayer and fasting.
We search for our centering moment everyday, every evening, that our minds may be focused upon You.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

T
he film, “The Matrix,” posed the question, “Which world are you in?”
Unless you followed closely, or watched the movie more than once, it was
a difficult question to answer.
Amphibians live in two worlds at once. Some, like hibernating frogs, can live in
one world for an extended time before emerging to the other and then casually
slip in and out of each environment when active. The steward’s life is amphibious.
You slip in and out of the world of the secular and the spiritual. The worlds are
completely different, but you easily cross from one to the other.
The balance for the Christian steward is to live totally in the spiritual world
while being in the secular world. “Standing around in a garage does not make
you a car,” someone once said. The environment in which you find yourself
is real, but that environment does not describe you. What a frog is, does not
depend on being in or out of water. A frog is a frog, and conducts its life in two
environments without changing its nature.
As a child of God, your spiritual nature lives itself out in the physical world.
God created and preserves the physical world as a place for you to exist. He
expects you to manage it. Being part of society and contributing to its betterment
are noble goals of Christian service.
Every contribution you make within the church or outside the church are
witnesses to God’s gifts within you.

n this school year, 17 children have gone to school and not returned home. In this school year,
17 children have left their parents, not knowing that they would never return again. This year
alone, 17 children have been killed by gun fire. These are 17 people who could have shaped the
future of our city, community, nation and world. These are 17 lives senselessly taken.
As part of an effort to cease the killing and value the lives of the children, Father Michael Pfleger
has instituted two initiatives which prayerfully will slow down access to guns, and force the state
legislature to pass common sense gun laws.
1. Within 24 – 72 hours after a child is murdered, a response team will rally from 11:00 a.m.
until 12:00 noon at the Thompson State of Illinois Building, demanding that state legislators
pass gun legislation.
2. Every time a child is murdered, if there is no known suspect, a $5000 reward will be put up
for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the shooter.
If you are interested in participating in either of these initiatives, please call the Faith Community
of St. Sabina Church at 773-483-4300.
