1. GENERAL

Fast Earthing Switch SBT/R 145-170 kV consists of three separate poles driven by mechanical
drive BES 7 (see related manual). Energy needed for fast closing operation of earthing switch is
stored in two springs.
2. DESCRIPTION
2.1 Housing
Housing (1) is made in Aluminium casting including two flanges (2) to connect contiguous
components; it is pre-set for operating shaft incoming (3). Housing is closed on side by a cover on
which view port and fixing points for earthing plait are mounted.
2.2 Contacts
They include: a mobile contact (5); contact fingers (6) fastened on the bar (7); contact shaft (3);
fixed contact (8) fastened on the cover (9) where the view port is assembled (10).
2.3 Mechanism (spring group)
Each mechanism is made of: one spring (11) mounted on a spring guide (12) operated by drive
shaft (3) through charging spring shaft (13).
Shock-absorber (14) and lateral plates (15) complete the device.
2.4 View port
The position of mobile contact (5) is visible across a view port (10) mounted on the adjacent cover
(9).

3. WORKING PRINCIPLE

SBT/R is shown in open position (figure 1), with closing spring charged.
Contact is moving slowly till the dead center position (figure 2), overcome this point, mobile contact
begin moving fast to close position (figure 3).

4. MAINTENANCE

For regular condition of exercise no maintenance is required.
The SBT/R can carry out two closing operations at 40 kA - 100kA peak, without any reduction of
insulation level. Subsequentely maintenance is needed and consists in substitution of mobile and
fixed contacts and SF6 gas replacement for gas compartment where FES is allocated.
