ANU Open Rules and Regulations
1. The competition director (Sam Miller) has, on behalf of ANU Table Tennis
Club, the sole management of the competition.
2. The Championships will be played under the Rules and Regulations of the
ITTF and Table Tennis Australia (TTA).
3. The Referee for the Championship will be Sam Miller (Table Tennis
Australia State Umpire).
4. Balls: White, 3-star, 40 mm, Double Fish balls will be used.
5. The competition director reserves the right to cancel any event for any
reason.
6. Consolation singles is open to all players who are eliminated in the first
round of the open singles.
7. Where a doubles player is not available at the time when he or she is called
on to play, the competition director may approve his or her replacement by
another player. Where such replacement occurs, the replaced player is not
permitted to participate further in the event in which the replacement has
occurred.
8. A player is required to umpire at least one match for each event entered.
9. The competition director may cancel the entry of a player who fails to
comply with clause
10. Prizes for completed events will be presented at the conclusion of play
11. Rules: matches will be played under ITTF regulations
12. Equipment: Rubbers on rackets must be ITTF approved.
13. Players: All players in the competition must be ANU students or staff.
14. Seeded players will be listed in bold with a ranking next to their name
15. Balls: 40 mm white balls are to be used, supplied by the ANU table tennis
club
16. Clothing: The main colour of shirt or shorts must not be white
17. Match format: All matches will be the best of 5 advantage games, 11 points.
18. Start Time: Individual matches must start within 5 minutes of the end of the
previous one.
19. Time out: During any individual match (including doubles), a player or a
team member may call a Time Out by signaling the umpire (after the end
of a point, but before the next point starts). Only one Time Out may be
called for a player during the match. The time out is to be no longer than
one minute
20. Toweling down: Play should be continuous except if the umpire deems
necessary such as for removing moisture from the surface of a bat, which
may be raised by either player before a point is played. Note that ceasing
play to towel down may only occur when the total points played in a game is
a multiple of 6 points.
21. Undue noise: Players must not make undue noise that could interrupt the
concentration of players on adjacent tables.
22. Competition manager; during the competition the competition manager has
the authority of the committee to provide leadership in organising various
aspects of the competition and to resolve issues about conduct of play.
23. Reserves: If players do not organise a reserve or inform their captain on two
or more occasions, then, at the discretion of the Competitions Director, they
may not be permitted to continue in the competition.
24. The serve: To be legal, a serve must commence from behind the base line,
and from above the table surface. The ball shall be presented and held still
in the palm of the hand (unless it is not possible due to disability) prior to
commencement of the serve. The ball shall be tossed vertically at least 16
cm and struck while falling. The ball shall be clearly visible to the opposing
player(s) and the umpire. Players who do not abide by these requirements
should work on them, and consult the competition manager.
25. Players not to call lets: Note that it is the role of the umpire (not a player) to
call a let in play. This is especially important for a let in regard to disruption
of play due to another ball entering the court.
26. Misbehaviour Incidents of misbehaviour, such as swearing or violent
behaviour, should in the first instance be reported to the competition
manager.
