Fourth Grade News

Weve made it through our first week! We have all had such a fantastic
first week back to school. I am so proud of the choices I am seeing and
the effort the students are making. We are setting up our classroom
routines and going over expectations. Thank you for all your support this
week, it truly makes all the difference.
Math: We worked this week on setting up our routine for math. Stu-
dents are practicing lots of review skills. Things to help practice in-
clude: multi-digit adding and subtracting with regrouping, rounding and
multiplication facts. As we move into next week, you will see math fact
sheets and Morning Math coming home. Areas with 1s need to be signed,
practiced, and returned.
Reading: We are reviewing Good Reader Strategies, and Im already so
impressed! We will move into setting up our Guided Reading expecta-
tions next week and will begin our first book study. I know the kids will
love the book we are going to read! Encourage them to summarize what
weve read.
Science: We will begin scientific method next week. Students are in-
vited to bring in a simple science experiment to perform for the class
next Thursday. Please make sure it is simple and follows our school
safety requirements. (example: no fire) It is not mandatory to bring an
experiment . :)
Writing: We are working on establishing our Writers Workshop expec-
tations. I cant wait to read their stories!
Working With Words: We are working on understanding how words
work. We will continue using strategies and studying prefixes, suffixes
and root words. Students will not have a traditional spelling test. They
will learn the rules of spelling and will apply them to new words. We will
have five focus words a week, and will build new words based off of root
words.
Some students still do not have their technology permission completed. The
district has sent an email and also called. This form can be completed on the
Parent Page of the district website. If you have not received notification about
this, please contact Central Office to fill out the registration.
