Instructions and Notes for Applicants

Potential candidates have two options to submit their applications through an online process
or on paper.

1. E-Chevening Online

i) Log on to the e-Chevening site at:
https://www.chevening.fco.gov.uk/CheveningApplications/CA_Start.aspx
ii) Carefully follow the directions and instructions given in this site.
iii) Upon entering the site you will be required to register as a new or existing user. If you
are a new user register with a username and password. Keep a record of these login
registration details to get repeated access to the site. If you are an existing user you
can log on repeatedly to your application, using your username and password, to
revise and/or for fill in non-completed pages of your application form.
iv) When you are sure that all parts of your application form are completed with accurate
information, please submit it. Once submitted you have no option of revising your
application form.
v) Your completed application form has to be submitted online by 21 November 2008.
Any application received after this will be automatically rejected.

2. Paper Application Form

i) Download and print the Chevening scholarships application form available from either
the British Council (www.britishcouncil.org/ethiopia) or British Embassy
(www.britishembassy.gov.uk/ethiopia) websites.
ii) The completed application form should be returned to the following address by 21
November 2008.

iii) At this stage you do not need to attach supporting documents or photographs
mentioned in the application form.
iv) Further information may also be available on the main Chevening site
(www.chevening.com) or by emailing us at (information@et.britishcouncil.org).

IMPORTANT PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION BOTH ONLINE AND ON PAPER.


2. Notes For Applicants Who Will Be Called For Interview
i) Short-listed candidates will be called for interview in January 2009, where they will
be required to produce relevant recommendation and reference letters and originals
of your qualification and professional certificates. This includes:
originals of degree and other relevant academic and professional certificates
and full academic transcripts
an official letter of support from employing organisation

two recently written letters from designated referees (as per details entered in
the online application form); one from a member of academic staff and one from
a professional colleague
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
valid passport, employment or other acceptable ID card
two copies of recently taken photographs

ii) Further notes on documents
All documents should be written in English. Certified translations should be
provided for official documents in other languages.
All dates in application form and CV must be stated in European calendar
Applications with inconsistent information will not be accepted unless there is a
clear explanatory note supported by evidence
Support letters and reference letters should be specific to this scholarship and
up-to-date
The referee should:
- describe your relationship to the applicant and the number of years known
- evaluate the applicants academic and professional standing
- explain how organisation and applicant would benefit from an award
(professional referee only)
Reference letters should reach us in sealed envelopes with an official stamp
References are important part of the selection process for these awards. They
may be followed up by direct contact with the referee
