Introduction
The unprecedented developments in the field of Information and Communication Technology and the rapid advancements in
the internet technologies and services have a transformative influence on how information is accessed and disseminated
throughout the world. The current transformation has facilitated access to enormous amount of information and a wide variety
of services to enhance the use and delivery of such information. This has resulted in a disparity of information overload at one
hand and information scarcity on the other especially because of the inability to exploit the advancements of technology. As
new technologies and services emerge, new challenges start surfacing. These new challenges have pushed the library and the
information professionals to be well equipped to tackle these challenges. While acknowledging the changes taking place in the
mode and service of information delivery and usage, it is important that the library profession rediscover the need of the
industry and the nation so that it can re-evaluate its services, revitalize the users and reinvigorate the library professional. The
future of the libraries and information centres depend on the information professionals to have an in-depth understanding of
these emerging changes and equip them accordingly. In particular, they need to learn skills that allow them to find, manage,
share and use information and knowledge. They need information literacy to supplement their information and management
skills in order to upgrade their libraries and information centers as per the modern day.
In this conjecture Emerging Trends and Technologies in Libraries and Information Services (ETTLIS) emerged as a platform to
bring together the current generation librarian with future generation librarian to discover new avenues of the library and
information services. To achieve this objective ETTLIS is holding its regular events from time to time.
Background of ETTLIS
The First ETTLIS (2008) was held during December 18-20, 2008 at JIIT Noida. There were more than 300 participants from
12 countries including India. 87 research papers were presented and the proceedings were published as a peer-reviewed
conference volume. The Second ETTLIS (2010) was organized at JUIT, Solon, during June 3-5, 2010. There were more than
400 participants from 20 different countries participated and166 presented their papers. Once again the conference papers
were published as conference volume. The Third ETTLIS 2012 was organised from October 26-27, 2012 at JUET Guna.
More than 200 LIS professionals from across globe participated in the symposium and 121 papers were presented. Once again
the conference papers were published as conference volume.
The Fourth ETTLIS 2015 will take place at Jaypee Institute Information Technology Noida UP India in Association
of Kings College London and technically sponsored by IEEE during January 6-8, 2015. Once again, we anticipate over
400-500 participants from around the globe, with a large proportion from Asia, presenting their research findings and
deliberating on the emerging trends in Information Science. Keeping in your expertise and published work in scholarly journals
and international conferences, I take this opportunity to extend an invitation to participate and share your rich
experience and knowledge in the form of a research paper. Accepted papers will be published by IEEE Explore online.
Objective of the Symposium
The aim of this symposium is to provide a common platform for researchers, academicians, industry leaders, information
providers and policy makers to share their experiences, innovative ideas and research findings more specially the emerging
trends and technologies in the field of Information science, knowledge resource centres and information services. In this
endeavour ETTLIS in the past has always partnered with likeminded institutions especially partners who are eager to promote
the development activities in the field of Libraries and Information Services and Information Science.
