1 Getting Started
1.1 Starting True Launch Bar
True Launch Bar uses the same methods as does the standard Cuic7 Launch bar. To launch >o$en@
TLBD rightBclic7 on the tas7 barD then select the 4Toolbars6 submenuD and then clic7 on the 4True
Launch BarE6 item.
True Launch Bar started for the first time contains all the Cuic7 Launch bar shortcutsD so Cuic7
Launch bar can be now disabled. 9nfortunatel/D the si-e and $osition of the icons ma/ slightl/
differ from si-e and $osition of icons within Cuic7 Launch bar.
1.2 Basic methods of using True Launch Bar
<e ha2e tried to use the most common interface items in True Launch BarD soD /ou shouldnFt face
great difficulties setting u$ and using it. 0ll the settings are a2ailable through the conte't menu.
Sim$l/ rightBclic7 on the toolbar to o$en the conte't menu. The content of the conte't menu
de$ends on the object /ou clic7ed onG howe2erD there are common menu items too. Hou should also
be aware that the content of the conte't menu can be defined in the settings. To o$en the com$lete
conte't menuD b/$assing the custom definitionsD hold down the !T8LIS),3T 7e/s on the
7e/board while rightBclic7ing on the object.
The second major technolog/ ado$ted in the $rogram is "rag#"ro$. Hou can drag an/ object to
just about an/ $lace on the toolbar or on the menu. Hou can e2en create new shortcuts using
"rag#"ro$. Both the left and the right mouse buttons can be used for dragging objects. <hen the
right mouse button is usedD True Launch Bar will show the menu of the a$$licable actions when the
mouse button is released.
<hile /ou are dragging an objectD True Launch Bar will mar7 the $osition where the object will be
$laced with a s$ecial mar7er. ,f the mar7er is not being dis$la/edD it means that True Launch Bar
will run the selected shortcut and $ass the dragged file as a $arameter. ,f /ou select a folder or
folder shortcutD the file will be co$ied A mo2ed to the selected folder. This feature can be usedD for
instanceD to o$en some te't file with =ote$ad ; just dro$ the file to be o$ened on the =ote$ad
shortcut.
5lease note the e2ents the insertion mar7er a$$ears for. 3or the regular menusD the insertion mar7er
a$$ears when /ou are carr/ing an object o2er the to$ or bottom edge of the menu item. ,f the menu
is in the Icons Only or Icons with Text 2iew modeD the mar7er will a$$ear when /ou are carr/ing an
object o2er the left or right edge of the menu itemD for that is where it will be inserted e2en if the
menu has onl/ one column in it.

1.3 True Launch Bar objects
0ll objects that a$$ear on the toolbar or menus are buttons. )ere is the list of the most common
button t/$es.
Shortcuts and files are the $rimar/ button t/$es. !lic7ing on a shortcut or file button
normall/ launches the corres$onding a$$lication.
Menus ; menu or folder ; ma/ contain an/ objectsD including other menus. The le2el of
nesting and the number of objects within a menu are not limited.
Separators are a s$ecial button t/$eD which a$$ears as a 2ertical or hori-ontal se$arator bar.
Se$arators can be used for grou$ing buttons within a menu. Besides thatD when menu
buttons are sortedD the sorting will a$$l/ onl/ to grou$s of items limited b/ the se$arators.
Titles are se$arators with te't.
Plugins are s$ecial buttons that e'tend True Launch BarFs ca$abilities. 5lugins can be both
menus and regular buttons. The content and functionalit/ of the buttons de$end on a
$articular $lugin.
0ll True Launch Bar objectsD e'ce$t for se$arators and titlesD are files $h/sicall/. Those files are
located in the s$ecial folder called the toolbar folder. To find out where the folder is locatedD unloc7
the toolbar ><indows ?5 onl/@D then rightBclic7 on the toolbar se$arator on the left and then select
4Open6 on the menu that a$$earsJ
0 toolbar folder contains all the toolbar settingsD shortcutsD $luginsD and menus. Some files in the
folder are hidden. ,f /ou want to see those filesD /ou will need to enable showing hidden files in
<indows :'$lorer settings.
Hou can also mo2e an/ object from the toolbar to an/ other folder using the "rag#"ro$ techniKue.

1.4 Creating shortcuts using Drag&Dro
To create a shortcut on the toolbarD just drag it to the True Launch Bar toolbar. The regular
"rag#"ro$ rules are a$$licableJ
)olding the S),3T 7e/ $ressed while dragging a fileAfolder ; TLB will mo2e the fileAfolder to the
toolbar. The original fileAfolder will be deleted.
)olding the !T8L 7e/ $ressed while dragging a fileAfolder ; TLB will co$/ the fileAfolder to the
toolbar. The original fileAfolder will be $reser2ed.
)olding the 0LT 7e/ $ressed while dragging a fileAfolder ; TLB will create a shortcut to the
original file. The original fileAfolder will be $reser2ed.
Hou can also drag filesAfolders b/ holding down the right mouse button. <hen /ou release the
mouse buttonD TLB will let /ou choose what is to be done ne'tJ
Copy Here ; will co$/ the fileAfolder to the toolbar.
Move Here ; will mo2e the fileAfolder to the toolbar.
Create Shortcut(s Here ; will create a shortcut to the fileAfolder on the toolbar.
Create Menu Here ; will create a 2irtual folderD i.e. menu reflecting the content of the
folder being dragged. This command is onl/ a$$licable to folders.
Cancel ; cancels the drag action.
1.! Creating shortcuts using the conte"t menu
0nother wa/ to create shortcuts is using the conte't menu. 8ightBclic7 on the TLB toolbarD then
$oint to 4=ew6D and then clic7 on the 4Shortcut6 item. Hou will see the <indows standard shortcut
creation dialogJ

3ollow the instructions on the screen to com$lete the creation of the shortcut.
1.# Creating searators
Se$arator is a s$ecial button t/$e that a$$ears as a 2ertical or hori-ontal bar on the toolbar or
menus. To create a se$aratorD rightBclic7 on the TLB toolbar or on a menuD then $oint to 4=ew6D and
then select 4Se$arator6 on the menu that a$$ears. The se$arator will be created before the button
/ou had rightBclic7ed on. ,f /ou want to create a se$arator with te'tD select the 4Title6 item on the
menu during the creation. 0fter /ou ha2e entered the title te'tD TLB will create a se$arator with that
te't. Se$aratorsD just li7e an/ other buttonsD can be grabbed and dragged with the mouse.
1.$ Creating %ugins
To create a $luginD rightBclic7 on the TLB toolbar or on a menuD then $oint to 4=ew6D and then
select the item with the $lugin name on the menu that a$$ears. True Launch Bar will let /ou enter
the file name and configure the $lugin. That will com$lete the creation of the $lugin. Since $lugins
a$$ear to be the regular buttonsD /ou can also grab and drag them with the mouse. Hou can e2en
co$/Amo2e $lugins to an/ folder on dis7 or to "es7to$. True Launch Bar will create a file with the
4.tlb$lugin6 e'tension. That file can be $laced bac7 on the toolbarG that will create the $lugin button
on the toolbar.
1.& De%eting objects
0n/ object can be remo2ed from True Launch Bar. To remo2e an objectD rightBclic7 on the object to
be deleted and then select 4"elete6 on the menu that a$$ears. <hen True Launch Bar deletes filesD
it $laces them to 8ec/cle BinG that will let /ou restore the deleted files when /ou need to do that.

9nli7e with the deletionD hiding True Launch Bar objects does not $h/sicall/ delete them from dis7G
insteadD the objects are sim$l/ mar7ed as 4hidden6. Hou can unhide a hidden object at an/ time b/
using the 4Show )idden6 item on the conte't menu. The 4Show )idden6 submenu dis$la/s the list
of hidden objects. !lic7ing on an object on the list will return that object bac7 to the menu. Hou can
also show all the hidden objects b/ clic7ing on the 4Show 0ll )idden6 menu item.
2 )enus
*enu is the $rimar/ feature of True Launch Bar. Hou can create menus of an/ com$le'it/ and
dimensions. 0ll True Launch Bar menus belong to one of these two t/$esJ
"egular 'enus. TLB creates the regular menus on the toolbar. The content of the menu loads when
the toolbar is run >when the s/stem starts.@ This menu t/$e is $erfect for shortcuts to freKuentl/ used
$rograms and for $lugins.
.irtual folders. These menus dis$la/ the content of an/ folder on /our com$uter as a menu. That
can be 4*/ "ocuments6D 4*/ !om$uter6D 4!ontrol 5anel6 or an/ other folder. The content of the
2irtual folders loads onl/ when /ou access to the 2irtual folder menu for the first time. That will
ta7e some time during the first time /ou o$en it. )owe2erD that sa2es the s/stem startu$ time and
sa2es the !59 resources. ,f /ou want the content of a 2irtual folder to load when TLB is runD rightB
clic7 on the 2irtual folderD then select the 4#ppearance6 itemD and then enable the 4Load on
Startup6 o$tion.
2.1 Creating menus
To create a new menuD rightBclic7 on the TLB toolbar or on another menuD then $oint to 4$e/6D and
then clic7 on the 4Menu6 item. The menu creation wi-ard will not onl/ hel$ /ou create a new menu
but also hel$ /ou set the basic o$tions for it.
1n the first $age of the wi-ardD enter the menu title. The title must com$l/ with the file naming
rulesD i.e. in the titles /ou must not use these charactersJ L M A N J O P Q.

To create a 2irtual folderD clic7 on the 4BrowseE6 button and then select the folderD the content of
which /ou want to see as menu. Hou can also t/$e the full $ath to the folder in the edit bo'. 1r /ou
can clic7 on the 45redefined6 button to select one of the $redefined folders on the list that a$$earsJ
!lic7ing on an/ of these menu items will fill in the name fields and folder $aths with the necessar/
2alues.
,f /ou want to lea2e the rest of the settings unchangedD sim$l/ clic7 43inish6. 1r clic7 4=e't6 to
edit the other menu o$tions.

To com$lete the creation of a new menuD clic7 3inish. 0t an/ momentD /ou can also clic7 4!ancel6
to decline the creation of a new menu.
2.2 *con si+es
True Launch Bar su$$orts all icon si-es. B/ defaultD it will let /ou use the 4Large icons6 and 4Small
icons6 onl/. TLB can also dis$la/ menus with no icons or dis$la/ thumbnails instead of icons. To
enable other icon si-esD o$en 4TLB SettingsE6 and then o$en the 4,con Si-es6 tab. 1n this tabD /ou
can edit si-es for the large and small icons and add other si-es. 5lease noteJ TLB onl/ su$$orts
sKuare icons >with the same width and height.@. 5lease 7ee$ in mind that the standard icon si-es
include 16'16D 32'32D and %'%. Some icons su$$ort the si-es of 6'6D (2'(2D and 12%'12%. The
icon image can be distorted if /ou choose a nonBstandard icon si-e.
2.3 ,ie- modes
*enus in True Launch Bar can be of the following four t/$es.

This is the regular 2iew mode used b/ default. 0ll items of the menu are listed from to$ to
bottom and from left to right. ,f all items of a menu cannot fit in one columnD the scrollbar
will a$$ear. ,f the number of columns allowed for the menu is greater than oneD the $rogram
will fill the first column from to$ to bottomD then the second oneD and so on. ,f the content of a
menu can fit in a single columnD the other columns will not be dis$la/ed.

<hen this 2iew mode is selectedD True Launch Bar will show icons onl/. ,t is recommended
that /ou set the number of columns more than one for the 4,cons onl/6 mode. The columns
will be filled from left to right and from to$ to bottom. True Launch Bar will alwa/s create as
man/ columns as it is set in the menu settings.

2.! *nheritance of settings
<hen used for the first timeD submenus inherit settings from their $arent menus. )owe2erD /ou can
also ma7e indi2idual settings to be inherited b/ the submenus. ,f /ou ha2e edited a submenu
settingsD the default inheritance will no longer wor7 for them. ,n this caseD to configure all the
submenusD enable the 412erwrite submenu o$tions6 settingD and the submenu settings will be
o2erwritten.

toolbar is bac7ed u$ or restored.
2i%tering fo%der
The content of an/ 2irtual folder can be filtered b/ a number of terms. Hou can set a mas7 for files
to be shown or hidden b/ TLB. Hou can also select the files that were created or modified within a
s$ecific number of da/s. There are two t/$es of filtering a2ailable.
Per'anent filtering >Aly filter to all new files!folders enabled@. <ith the $ermanent filtering
enabledD TLB will alwa/s filter the a$$licable filesD and the menu will ha2e no hidden files.

3 True Launch Bar Settings
0ll True Launch Bar settings are gathered in a single settings windowD True Launch Bar Settings. To
2iewAedit the settingsD o$en the True Launch Bar conte't menu and then select the 4TLB Settings...6
item.
The tabs with the 2arious settings are shown on the left of the windowD and the right $art of the
window dis$la/s the actual settings for the selected tab. <hen /ou are done editingD clic7 41S6 to
sa2e changes and close the settings window. !lic7ing 40$$l/6 will sa2e and a$$l/ the changesD but
the settings window will remain o$en.
3.1 Genera% 0tions
This tab contains a number of the basic settings and utilities.

5rofiles are used to Kuic7l/ mo2e identical settings between different toolbars and Kuic7l/
switch between the settings. !lic7ing on the button will o$en this menuJ

4Save current settings to a ne/ profile)))6 sa2es current settings to a new $rofile or
o2erwrites an e'isting $rofile. True Launch Bar will o$en the dialog window where it will as7
/ou to enter the new $rofile name.
*Organi0e profiles)))- allows deleting $rofiles that /ou no longer need.
This will o$en the list of all a2ailable $rofiles. Selecting a $rofile on this menu will instantl/
load it to the toolbar.
3Bac6u5 and 37estore5 buttons
!lic7ing on the 4Bac7u$6 button will o$en the bac7u$ wi-ard. Hou can create an/ number of
bac7u$s. The bac7u$ will create a file with the 4.tlbbac7u$6 e'tension. This file will contain
all of the toolbar objectsD e'ce$t the content of the 2irtual foldersD and all of the toolbar
settings. 5lease note that if /ou ha2e changed some objectsF icons or set o2erla/ imagesD True
Launch Bar will normall/ not sa2e them in the bac7u$ file. ,f /ou want /our icons and
o2erla/ images to be sa2ed in the bac7u$ fileD /ou must enable the 4Sa2e with toolbar6 o$tion
when /ou change the icons and A or o2erla/ images. ThusD True Launch Bar will co$/ the
necessar/ files to the toolbar folder and add them to the bac7u$ file when it is created.
The 48estore6 button o$ens the "estore from #ac$u wi-ardD where /ou will be as7ed to
select a bac7u$ file.

!lic7ing on this button will launch True Launch Bar !om$onents *anagerD which will hel$
/ou chec7 for u$dates and install the latest True Launch Bar and its com$onents. Hou can also
use the manager to delete unnecessar/ com$onents.
Settings ass-ord
This feature allows setting a $assword to $rotecting /our True Launch Bar settings. The same
$assword is to be entered twice. 1nce the $assword is setD True Launch Bar will $rom$t /ou
to enter the $assword e2er/ time /ou attem$t to o$en the settings window. ,f /ou enter an
incorrect $asswordD True Launch Bar will den/ access to the settings window.
Button %oc6ing
This grou$ of settings allows managing the loc7ing of buttons on the toolbar and within
menusJ
4Loc7 buttons6 ; Loc7s all objects on the toolbar and within menus. 1bjects cannot be mo2ed

Loading 2irtual folders in bac7ground will let /ou a2oid the tem$orar/ loc7out of the tas7bar
while a 2irtual folder with large number of files is loading. ,f this o$tion is disabledD the
tas7bar will be una2ailable while True Launch Bar is reading the content of the folder.
Sometimes that time can be Kuite longD es$eciall/ with the large folders. ,f /ou enable loading
2irtual folders in bac7groundD True Launch Bar will dis$la/ 4Loading folder contentE6D but
/ou will be able to close the menu being loaded and continue using other menus while the
content is loading.
9nab%e /cce%erators
0ccelerator is a letter or character to be used for accessing an item instantl/G that letter or
character is underlined. To access an item with an acceleratorD /ou will need to $ress the
0LTIaccelerator shortcut. To create an accelerator for a menu itemD just rename it and add the
& character before the accelerator letter.

8ename 4*icrosoft <ord6 to 4*icrosoft #<ord6D and True Launch Bar will dis$la/ that
button as 4*icrosoft <ord6. ThusD /ou will be able to launch <ord instantl/ b/ sim$l/

This o$tion enables or disables changing file t/$e >e'tension@ when a file is renamed. <hen

This o$tion is a2ailable to 2irtual folders onl/. <hen it is enabledD shortcuts to the default

shortcut to menu for each indi2idual shortcut through the conte't menu. ThusD /ou can create
2irtual folders within other 2irtual folders.

Dra- method
This $reference defines how the o2erla/ image is to be drawn. The following three methods
are a2ailable.

StretchJ the image will be stretched to the toolbar boundaries.
TileJ the toolbar will be filled with the image.

menu. Hou can select se2eral buttons at once b/ holding the !T8L 7e/ down and clic7ing on the
buttons on the list. The button $ro$erties that ha2e been edited a$$ear in bold.
The following $ro$erties can be editedJ
Button te2t ; sets descri$tion te't for the button. ,f this field is blan7D True Launch Bar will
use the button name for descri$tion. Hou can enter an/ te't in this fieldD no restrictions a$$l/
to it.
"ight aligned te2t ; te't to a$$ear on the right of the main te't. This $lace normall/
contains 7e/board shortcut set for the item.
!con Si0e ; sets si-e for the icon on the button. :nter -ero to set the default icon si-e.
&efault vie/ ; sets the default 2iew for the buttonG the default 2iew is defined in the menu
settings.
Sho/ te2t la+el ; enables showing te't label for the button.
Sho/ icon ; enables showing icon for the button.
#lign ; sets alignment for the te't label. 4Left6 will align the te't b/ the left edge of the
buttonD 4"ight6 will align the te't label b/ the right edge of the buttonD and 4Center6 will
align the te't b/ the center of the button.
Bold ; dis$la/s the label te't in bold.

True Launch Bar allows setting custom a$$earance for buttons. To set a custom image for a buttonD
rightBclic7 on the True Launch Bar toolbarD then $oint to the 4#ppearance6 item on the conte't
menuD and then select 4Set !'age6J
,n the 4,mage file6 fieldD enter full $ath to the button image. !lic7 on the 4E6 to select the image
file in the e'$lorer window. :nable the 4Sa2e image with toolbar6 o$tion if /ou want to sa2e the
image with the toolbar.
,n the 45re2iew6 area /ou can chec7 how the button will wor7.
The button image file must contain an image for all three button statesJ 4=ormal6D 45ressed6D and
40cti2e6. These images must be of the same width and must follow one another 2erticall/J
<hen a button image is setD all other st/les a$$licable to the button will be ignored. Te't labels for
the button will also be ignored.

Se$arators add a number of items to the conte't menuJ
Change title ; changes the se$arator title. Lea2ing this field blan7 will create a se$arator
with no te't.
4na+le 42pand6Collapse ; enables colla$sible se$arators. <hen this o$tion is enabledD the
4B6 button a$$ears on the left of the se$arator. !lic7ing on that button or on the se$arator
will hide all items within that grou$D and the se$arator button will a$$ear as 4I6. !lic7ing
on the 4I6 will show all items within that grou$ again.
4na+le "un #ll ; allows running all a$$lications within the grou$. The "un button will
a$$ear on the left of the se$arator bar. !lic7ing on that button will run all the buttons within
that grou$ just as if /ou had run a$$lications within the grou$ one b/ one. This is hel$ful
when /ou need to run multi$le a$$lications at the same time.
#uto collapse ; enables the automatic colla$sing of a grou$ when another grou$ is
e'$anded or when the menu is closed.

0s it was mentioned abo2eD when a grou$ is colla$sedD its buttons become hidden and a$$ear on the
4Sho/ Hidden6 item of the conte't menu. 0 great effect can be created if /ou enable showing one
or a few buttons from a colla$sed grou$. <hen the grou$ is e'$andedD the 2isible buttons become
hiddenD and the hidden ones will become 2isible. Thus the buttons will toggle e2er/ time /ou clic7
on the item.

#.2 Recently Accessed shortcuts menu
True Launch Bar allows /ou to create a s$ecial menu that contains a number of shortcuts accessed
recentl/. To create this menuD rightBclic7 on the $osition where /ou want to create the menuD then
$oint to 4$e/6 on the conte't menu that a$$earsD and then select 4"ecently #ccessed6. True
Launch Bar will create the menu. Hou can change that menu icon the same wa/ as /ou would do it
for a regular menu. The 4"ecently #ccessed6 menu is literall/ the same as the regular menusG /ou
can also set 2arious 2iew modesD delete the unnecessar/ itemsD and do more with that menu. 0ll
shortcuts within that menu are arranged automaticall/D and /ou can choose the arrangement rule
between 4Last run time6 and 48uns count6. The ma'imum number of items allowed in this menu is
defined b/ True Launch Bar Settings.
1nl/ one 4"ecently #ccessed6 menu can be created.

,f /ou $refer to a2oid using the mouse in /our wor7D True Launch Bar will offer /ou an e'cellent
7e/boardBbased wor7 en2ironment.
0n/ menu on the toolbar can be o$ened with a hot7e/. True Launch Bar allows using all hot7e/
modifiersD including Q<,=P or using no modifiers at all. 9se the 95 and "1<= arrow to na2igate
through the menu. :=T:8 will launch the selected shortcut or o$en the submenu. 0 submenu can
also be o$ened b/ $ressing the 8,G)T arrow 7e/. To close a menuD hit :S!. To o$en the $re2ious
or ne't menuD hold the !T8L 7e/ down and use the L:3TA8,G)T arrow 7e/s.
Hou can t/$e the first few letters of a button te't to Kuic7l/ select that button. ,f the selected button
is a menuD True Launch Bar will o$en that menu. Hou can also use accelerators to enhance menus.

The tool+ar height is greater than the standard /hen True Launch Bar starts
This often occurs when the nonBstandard <indows ?5 themes are used. To cut the toolbar
heightD reduce the si-e of buttons on the toolbar. That can be achie2ed through the 4*etrics6
o$tions of the 4TLB Settings6 window. To change the button si-eD reduce the 4)eight6 2alue
in the 4Button margins6 grou$. Hou ma/ also want to cut the 4<idth6 2alue to $reser2e the
sKuare form for the buttons.
The 4in2alid height6 $roblem ma/ also be related to the e'cessi2e si-es of a button on the
toolbar. *a/be a $lugin icon height is too great. ,f thatFs the caseD tr/ changing the s7in used
in that $lugin.
Hot(eys in .irtual 1olders do not /or( after restarting
The content of 2irtual folders loads onl/ when the/ are accessed for the first time. 8ight when
/ou start /our s/stemD True Launch Bar does not 47now6 of the 2irtual folders content and
cannot $rocess those foldersF hot7e/s. 1nce the folder has been o$enedD True Launch Bar will
continue to $rocess that folderFs hot7e/s $ro$erl/.
.irtual folders add the 4Load on Startup6 o$tion to the 4#ppearance6 item of the conte't
menu. <hen this o$tion is enabledD True Launch Bar will load the content of the 2irtual folder
on startu$D thus the hot7e/s will be a2ailable immediatel/ after restarting.
Una+le to 'ove +uttons on the tool+ar and6or 'enu to other locations
1ne of the causes for that ma/ lie in the enabling of the button loc7u$ o$tion. 9nloc7 the
buttonD and /ou will be able to mo2e them.
The second cause of the enabled automatic arranging of the buttons. ,n this caseD the button
gets bac7 to its original $osition whene2er /ou tr/ to mo2e it somewhere else. 8ightBclic7 on
the toolbar or menuD then $oint to 4#rrange !cons By6 on the conte't menu and then deselect
the 4#uto #rrange6 item.
