Model ACAL-BBU Install Guide
16.5 VAC
20 VA
PLUG-IN
TRANSFORMER
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Replacement transformer
included do not attach
existing transformer to
ACAL-BBU.
Overview:
The ACAL-BBU power supply/charger converts low voltage AC input into 12 VDC @ 1.2 amps of continuous
supply current.
Specifications:
Input:
Input 16.5VAC
Output:
12 VDC
1.2 amp continuous supply current at 12VDC.
750 mA continuous supply current at 12VDC.
Filtered and electronically regulated output.
Battery Backup:
Built-in charger for sealed lead acid or gel type batteries.
Maximum charge current 300mA.
Automatic switchover to stand-by battery when AC Fails.
PTC battery protection.
Additional Features:
Thermal and short circuit protection with auto reset.
AC input and DC output LED indicators.
Installation Instructions:
1. Disconnect and dispose of existing plug in transformer. NOTE: The new supplied transformer must be used and
will not be wired back into the same location. The existing transformer will not work and could cause damage to
the ACAL-BBU system.
2. Mount the ACAL-BBU circuit board inside of enclosure (using the 4- nuts & 4 bolts supplied). There are 4
pre-existing holes located in the lower right side of the control panel intended for mounting this circuit board.
3. Wire the supplied plug-in transformer to terminals marked AC (These terminals are not polarity specific)
Note: It is important to measure output voltage before connecting devices. This helps avoid potential damage.
4. Install the battery into the left corner of the control panel.
5. Install the supplied strap with the 2 supplied nuts & bolts to secure the battery. There are two pre-drilled holes
to mount the battery strap.
6. Use supplied wire for DC power connections (Battery & DC output).
7. Carefully connect the [+ DC] and [DC - BAT] to the terminal strip where the existing plug-in transformer was
wired while ensuring that you observe proper polarity.
8. While carefully observing polarity connect the "supplied" battery leads to the terminals marked
[BAT +] and [DC - NEG] and then to the new battery.
TESTING THE NEW INSTALLATION AND ALARM PANEL:
1. Once ensuring all wiring is completed properly plug the power cord back in to power up the control panel.
2. Check that the dial-out panel display is powered up, that the LED's lit properly on the new circuit board, and that
the alarm system did not sound off.
3. Disconnect power to the indoor control panel and ensure that the dial out panel displays stays lit.
4. Now check the new battery backup circuit board and ensure that the Red LED remained lit, and that the Green
LED has shut off. If this happened then the system was wired and is operating properly.
5. Restore power to the Indoor Control Panel.
