The document discusses four proposals for transferring around 20MW of power from the Al Hamra Power Plant to the Utico Power Plant.
Proposal 1 involves constructing a new switching station connected to both plants via spare feeders, allowing up to 13.5MW to be provided to local customers. Proposal 2 looks to switch 3.5MW of Al Hamra's existing load at one station and connect another 3MW at a separate station, totaling 6.5MW transferred. Proposal 3 suggests utilizing two new Utico substations near Al Hamra to divert some of its cables. Proposal 4 identifies nearby RMUs of both plants that could swap power loads between them. Additional analysis is requested from Utico

TRANSFERING 20MW OF AL HAMRA POWER PLANT ON UTICO POWERPLANT
PROPOSALS FROM AL GHAIL POWER LLC
PROPOSAL- 1. Construct new switching station near to UTICO Power plant and MARINA switching station. Connect 11KVSpare Feeders, 2nos, from UTICO power plant to this new Switching station. Divert Al Hamara power cables ,4nos of 3C X 300mm2 Al cables, which are going to MARINA switching station and coming from shopping mall & MMI, to new proposed Switching Station. Thus,Marina switching station will get connected with newly proposed Switching station. Presently ,Approx 13.5MW can be catered from UTICO POWER PLANT by this scheme to townhouse and marina.
OUR COMMENTS 1. Construction of new Switching station would take approx 6 months time. However, advantages of Switching station are, a. proper protection scheme can be provided b. power rating of bus bar and circuit breakers can be designed to 1250/2500Amps. c. Synchronizing facility can be provided , which avoid power interruption during changeover from UTICO to AHP or vice versa. d. Future expansion is possible. 2. Another option is Installation of 2nos RM6 with metering facility near to UTICO POWER STATION and Connect UTICO and Al Hamra Power to RM6 arrangement . This would serve the same purpose of the proposed substation. However ,disadvantages in this method are, a. All standard protections cannot be normally provided with RM6, b. Max available circuit breaker and bus bar rating is 630 Amps. c. Expansion is difficult as compared to switching station d. Power interruption for short duration during changeover Further, The RM6 need to be modified to provide facility for terminating two cables in two breakers. 3. Al Hamra to provide load curve to confirm load during summer and winter
PROPOSAL 2 BAB AL BHAR Switching Station 11KV panel has UTICO POWER at one BUS section and AL HAMRA POWER at other BUS section with a BUS Coupler separation. At present ,Al Hamra is feeding 3.5MW to its customers. This load can be diverted to UTICO POWER by switching OFF Al Hamra incomer and closing the BUS coupler. Al Hamra is feeding above 3.5MW and another 3MW to Al Marjan area through a RM6 arrangement at the entrance of Marjan Island . If UTICO can connect their existing 11KV cable to this RM6, then a total of 6.5MW load of AL Hamra can be transferred to UTICO.
OUR COMMENTS 1. If this 6.5MW transferring is possible, then approx.20MW (13.5+6.5MW) can be transferred from AL Hamra Power plant to UTICO side. 2. UTICO to study about this and submit their comments on this. 3. Al Hamra to provide load curve to confirm load during summer and winter
PROPOSAL 3 Utilize 2nos new 33/11KV substations of UTICO in Al Hamra area for diverting Al Hamra Load on UTICO side. it can be done by diverting AGPL cables, which are passing in front of those substations of UTICO, to the substations.
PROPOSAL 4 Identify the Al Hamra RMUs and UTICO RMUs which are nearby and Swap Al hamra power with UTICO power which would enable to transfer 20MW of Al hamra power to UTICO side. Necessary metering arrangement need to be taken care.
OUR COMMENTS ON PROPOSAL 3&4 1. UTICO to study on this after getting the relevant details and drawings from Al hamra power station. 2. Al Hamra to provide load curve to confirm load during summer and winter
PROPOSAL FROM UTICO Link UTICO 33KV substation of UTICO with Al hamra 33KV GIS. 33KV cables to be laid from UTICO to AL HAMRA Power plant for this.
OUR COMMENTS A detailed study will be required on this proposal as Al Hamra and UTICO will be required to be synchronized. No spare 33KV GIS feeder is available at Al Hamra power plant.
