MISSION STRATEGY FOR COSTA RICA
There are several areas of leg work to be undertaken before
Inhering Costa Rica. Passports, medical certificates, police
reports, funds for flight and shipping, correspondence to the
Language School, arrangements for school entry, for children's
education and student visas. In this case we will attend the
Institute de Lengua Espanola and a big brother will meet us at
the airport, he willhave also arranged living quarters for us
while we are at the school.
Once we are settled and studying the language for the next
year, we will also have the opportunity to scout out the towns
of Costa Rica. Discover the government building, the legal way
of establishing a church or institute, learning the plans of
the government and look for the new areas to be built. We will
also learn what can and cannot be done in line of evangelism,
such as street meetings, preaching points. We will find ways
that other religions, social and government projects present
and attract the mass of people for the best results. We will
at all times be showing, love, compassion, Christian living to
all. We will be interested in suggestions and problems of all.
Always keeping an eye on the conduct of the people and their
living habits (anthropology) continually learning.
While studying the language we will have the opportunity to meet
II I
and cultivate friendships among the neighborhood people, places
where we do business, such as markets, banks, postoffice, buses,
etc. We can attend different churches inthe area, study newspapers,
the adds, which papers reach what group of people* We can locate
the local printing shops and findout the price for printed
iA/K'y^
materials# We can visit the American Embessy for leads and
be always praying for God's direction and for Him to open the
hearts^ lives and souls of the people#
All of this is for finding out the best possible ways to reach
the most people with God's word#
In Costa Rica there will be two areas to be under survey one
will be San Jose and the other will be rural, Quesada and Los
Chiles, to name two.areas of back country that are Just now
getting roads to connect them with the outside world# These
people have not heard of Jesus Christ nor seen a Bible# The
rural area may be where the movement of city people are going#
If so, we should find and establish contact, flying into these
areas, maybe only 45 minutes away from San Jose by air* but
6 or 6 hours by oar and some you can reach only by air, boat
or horse back#
With a farming background, I could observe their practices and
observe their live stock, grain and thru their needs, gain their
confidence with love and understanding# Not to make fun of their
ways but to help by telling and lowing them ways to improve
what they already have and not to introduce new ways# The one
thing in mind will be toshare Christ so that they can have an
opportunity to accept or reject Christ as their saviour#
In this rural area there is also a possibility of helping by
flying and getting the people tothe hospitals which are usually
in larger towns, too far away by horse or boat for emergencies#
We need to discover if rural people are rushing to the cities
and if so, what cities and in what areas of the cities#
Here again, even though it hurts me tosay it, the cities
should be the best place to reach the most with the least
amount of time* Saturation of printed literature, news
paper adds, radio or mouth to mouth, all wouldwork to get
out the good news in a hurry* Embedding New Testament ideas
in peoples minds* Praying that the Holy Spirit will lead
people tothe greatest desire of serving Christ in their
lives* ^
