1 ACMNA122 Prime and Composite Magnetic Numbers:
Magnetic Numbers Activity Students are given a handful of
numbers to sort into the Prime circle or the Composite circle.
Discuss if any need to be moved?
Identify properties of prime and composite numbers.
What defines a prime/composite number?
Blank Number Chart: Create a maze with a composite number path.
Swap with partner to solve.

(D)
Magnetic Numbers:
Grasp what students know about
prime and composite numbers.
(F)
Number Chart:
Correct identification of the
numbers as either prime or
composite.
? ACMNA122 Factors Challenge:
Revise factors
Examples on board as a class.
Factors Challenge each child receives a magnetic composite
number. Must write down all the factors in that number. Children then
walk around classroom challenging each other by mentioning all the
factors in someone elses number. If only one partner correctly
names all the factors, he/she will get to keep their own as well as the
challenged partners card. If both correctly name, they get to keep
their own. Children who have lost a card may pick another card and
write down all the factors in that number, and the game continues.
Students add up the total score of all the cards and the highest score
is the winner.

2 ACMNA122 Prime and Composite Numbers:
Magnetic Numbers Activity Students are given a handful of
numbers to sort into the Prime circle or the Composite circle.
Discuss if any need to be moved?
Identify properties of prime and composite numbers.
What defines a prime/composite number?
Activity: Prime Cards Pairs receive 6 cards between them. They
must uncover one card at a time, adding together the cards they
reveal. Once added, they must decide if that is a prime or composite
number. They must also write down the numbers that divide evenly
into these numbers in their workbooks.
Compare results, how many prime numbers did you get vs composite
numbers? Tally on IWB table.
Discuss these numbers as factors.
