CONCERNED PARENTS HEAD TO NORWALK WITH A PETITION TO REQUEST RESIGNATION OF ELECTED NORWALK BOARD OF EDUCATION CHAIR AND A MEMBER FOR RACIAL AND CULTURALLY INSENSITIVE PUBLIC REMARKS
“Until justice is blind to color, until education is unaware of race, until opportunity is unconcerned with the color of men's skins, emancipation will be a proclamation but not a fact.” Lyndon B. Johnson
WHEN: Tuesday August 5, 2014; 7:15 p.m. (Before Norwalk Board of Education Meeting)
WHERE: 125 East Avenue Norwalk CT 06852 (front of City Hall)
WHY: In June of 2014, three women of color ( 2 Black and 1 Hispanic) filed a complaint with the Norwalk NAACP alleging, they as minority women members of the Norwalk Board of Education, have received "continual intimidation, harassment, disrespect, exclusion, discrimination, lack of transparency and disparate treatment" from Norwalk Board Chairman. In response to their complaint a headline/comment stated by a Norwalk Board of Education member appeared in the Norwalk Online newspaper “The Hour” entitled “Chiaramonte: Mosby 'is the girl who cried black' http://www.thehour.com/news/norwalk/chiaramonte-mosby-is-the-girl-who-cried-black/article_b344e817-aadb-5468-806d-b4dd7e4fd0ea.html?mode=image&photo=0
These racial and cultural insensitive comments and behaviors from ELECTED Norwalk Board of Education members are unacceptable, irresponsible and reckless because these board members are entrusted to the equal education of all Norwalk children regardless of race, religion or income level. One has to wonder how they treat and make decisions in regards to their Black and Hispanic student population and their parents.
