1.2 Definition

Software comprises the entire set of programs, procedures and routines associated with the operation
of any kind of hardware system. The term ""Software"" differentiates from the physical components of
an electronical (computer-) system (""Hardware"") and stands for the instructions, which makes a
comupter-system resp. any electronical system/device executing different actions.

Depending on the kind of hardware, at which the software program is running, there are different forms
of software e.g.: PC Software, SOS Software, E-Book Software, Mobile Phone Software, DVD Player
Software, MP3 Player Software, Software for Consoles resp. TVs etc.

These forms of software comprise among other things following software types e.g.: standard software,
programming software, middleware (incl. object broker/moduls), (operating) system software, software
routines, software applets, all kind of customized programmed software moduls resp. software library
systems.

File Conversion This segment includes compression programs, which combine
several files or directory structures in one file and reduce the data
quantity. During this procedure, the data type of the original file is
converted into a new data type, depending upon the compression
program (e.g. for Winzip: zip file).
Financial Software This segment contains Financial Software for the private use. It is
applied in a wide range of areas and can be divided into two sectors:
- financial planner: this software supports the user during all financial
transactions, as e.g. asset management, home banking and
household planning
- adviser: these programs provide the user with tips regarding
different financial issues as e.g. the purchase of a car, asset
management or pension planning
Firewalls This segment includes software to protect a
computer/Smartphone/Mobile Phone from external attacks via the
internet or a network. Basically, a firewall is working like a filter and
examines each network package to determine whether to forward it
toward its destination or not. A firewall is often installed at a specially
designated computer/Smartphone/Mobile Phone separate from the
rest of the network so that no incoming request can get directly at
private network resources.
Graphic & Design This segment contains software for the following categories:
- software for the creation of presentations. The clear presentation of
statistical facts and the matter of the enterprise is essential
- programs for creating diagrams and organigrams
- professional and semi-professional desktop publishing software
Groupware This software describes programs enabling several persons and PCs
to coordinatedly cooperate. In this context the expression computer
supported co-operative work is used as well. Work processes are
defined in which to each work step is assigned one user res. his
computer. The software then takes over the distribution and
co-ordination of the problems during the course of the process.
Groupware programs often also contain an internal e-mail system.
HDD Management This product segment includes software for the partition of hard
disks. Partition software ensures the change and adaptation of the
partitions without data loss and optimises the memory of the hard
disk. Moreover, the user is able to copy complete hard disks and so
transfer the whole operating system to a new PC/Smartphone/Mobile
Phone without installing everything new.
Furthermore this segment includes Uninstaller software, which
protocols all installations on the system with the target that they later
can be removed totally. When removing the components, a back-up
copy is made, so that no data can be lost. A further function is the
supervision of data use. In this case the software records the
frequency of the use of certain files. So, rarely used files can be
identified and archived.
Integrated Pack Integrated packages are programs meant as complete office work
solutions. Whereas office suites represent a combination of several
programs, an integrated package is one software with several partial
functions. Usually these functions can not run independently.
Standard is one word processing function, one spreadsheet analysis
and one database integrated in the package.

Media Centre SW This product segment includes software applications turning
computer/Smartphone/Mobile Phone into media centres. They
combine various function under a user interface optimized for the use
on TV-screens. Functions include, for example, playback of video
content, TV viewing, recording and timeshifting over the
computer/Smartphone/Mobile Phone, electronic program guide
(EPG), etc. Furthermore software for playback of DVD-video content
as well as video recording software is also included.
- media center suites: combining multimedia functions under one
user interface, optimized for use on TV-screens
- dvd player software: movies can be watched on a
PC/Smartphone/Mobile Phone
- video recorder software: TV films/telecasts can be recorded and

Navigation SW Navigation Software is software for location based navigation of a
person or vehicle via GPS on a map. Navigation software works
interactively with a GPS receiver by locating the person or vehicle,
calculating the route and guiding to the destination. It includes the
following segments:
- navigation software

Network OS This segment consists of those types of software which are for the
administration of networks. The programs regulate the data flow
between the individual computers/Smartphones/Mobile Phones and
administrate the storage space (server). The diverse users all
receive different user rights and profiles being protected by password
systems. All actions within the network or outwards are monitored for
safety reasons. As protection towards the internet there are
additional tools e.g. the so-called firewalls. Further connected
peripheral devices are installed and administrated in the intranet.
OCR The segment OCR (optical character recognition) contains software
that recognizes printed charactes given in by scanner. OCR software
can recognize many different OCR fonts, as well as typwriter and
computer-printed characters. Advanced OCR systems can
recognize hand printing. OCR software supports paperless
document management.

Office Suites The software in this segment contains user packages for the
complete administration and processing of office duties. For this
purpose various single applications are combined in a package. The
standard equipment includes word processing, one spreadsheet
analysis and a time schedule with an address list, often there is a
presentation software as well. The enhanced version of these
packages is additionally equipped with data bases and web
publishing tools (html). The components are adjusted to each other
to optimise the variety of data usage (import, export).
Organizing SW This segment contains software for planing dates and projects.
Following fields are included:
- time management software with additional address organisers.
The
programs basically consist of a detailed calendar where the dates
are entered. Tasks and deadlines can additionally be entered.

- mind managing/brainstorming programs for organising and
presenting thoughts
OS (Standalone) Under Operating Systems we understand the basic software for the
computer/Smartphone/Mobile Phone. All functions of the
computer/Smartphone/Mobile Phone are controlled by this operating

BUNDLES:
Articles of this product group that are available/ sold as sets/ bundles with articles of the same or other

according to the price of the 2

- Leasing Software for more than one User, has to be coded as a Single User Package and has to be

HANDLING OF VOUCHERS:

- Vouchers which will be sold via a keycard in a package (at usual retailers) has to be coded as
SW-Medium = Keaycard
- Vouchers which will be via Download or the code will be send via email has to be coded as

HANDLING OF ANTIVIRUS, PRIVACY CONTROL AND SECURITY SUITES:

At the moment every Software which has more than 2 functions (e.g. Antivirus, Antispy and Firewall)
has to be coded as Security suites.
Software which is Antivirus with Antispy has to be coded as Antivirus

At the 2011-01-13 this will be changed, they will be coded like they are advertised.

As example:

- Webroot Spy Sweeper incl. Antivirus -> Privacy Control
- Webroot AntiVirus with Antispyware -> Anti Virus
- Webroot Internet Security Essentials -> Security Suite

Additionally every Antivirus Software and Security suite (cause the include an Antivirus Software) has
to be coded with feature Maintenance = Yes.
Cause each Antivirus Software includes at least a short maintenance.

HANDLING OF MAINTENANCES:

- Pure Maintenance has to be coded as MAINTENANCE in the modeltext.
- Software which will be sold Including a maintenance as INCL. MAINTENANCE in the
modeltext.
- The time of maintenance (in month) is part of the featuretext (TERM OF MAINTENANCE), different
time of maintenance leads to different items.

GENERAL CODING HINTS:

- Most new Software of 2010 is compatible to windows 7, so it can work on 64bit.
In case of doubt code the item as 64bit please.

- Do not create Bundles as items.
If two different Software will be sold at once, then please create an according bundle.

- If you code a pure maintenance, then write in the modeltext MAINTENANCE.
If you code a Software which has a maintenance included, then write in the modeltext INCL.
MAINTENANCE. Otherwise we are not able to see the difference between pure maintenances and
Software with maintenance.

- If the Software is an update version, then please write UPD in the modeltext.
The Feature SW Update is not part of the featuretext, so it is crucial to write this information into the
modeltext.

- If you create a new Product at the Productline, please check in front of if an according product is
already existing and create no duplicate.

- Versions (like 1.1, 2.0, 1.x, 4.x) or Years (like 2000, 2010, ..) are not part of the Product Modeltext
(Productline), those different Years and Versions will be aggregated to one Product.
Only exception are encyclopedia, here are the years allowed (e.g. Chronic 2009, Chronic 2010, etc.).

- Software will not be coded in different languages, all different languages will be aggregated at on item
(Windows 7 Russia and Windows 7 English will be coded as Windows 7).
Only exception is language Software itself (e.g. My first English, Dico langue francaise,etc.).

- Licenses has to be coded as license and not as Single user or Multi user. If there are more licenses
sold in one, then please code it as one license and translate it as Multipack.

- In case of Doubt concerning the Medium, the following applies:
o Licenses, Maintenances, Leasings or OEMs of software versions with release date up to
2011 has to be coded as DVD in case of doubt.
o Licenses, Maintenances, Leasings or OEMs of software versions with release date after
2011 has to be coded as Internet/Network in case of doubt.

- Mediakit has to be coded as Mediakit and not as Single user, Multi user or License.

- If Vouchers will be sold as a card (mostly by usual retailers), then please code it as medium Key card.
If Vouchers will be sold as a download (mostly by online retailers, then please code it as medium
internet.

- If you create an item of a Software series, then take a look at the existing items of this series and write
the modeltext in the same way.

- The feature distributor cant be changed, cause it is an itemdefinition feature and the translations of all
