v) Why are you so much interested about the

vi) Why has he been torture me?
vii) Why is broken leg being been repaired?
viii) Why MLA is not taking developmental
activities in his area?
A: All the sentences from S.No. (i) to S.No.
(viii) are wrong. They are all supposed to
be questions but not in the question struc-
ture. In a question the verb is before the
subject, or the subject is in between the
helping verb and the main verb.
Secondly most of the sentences do not have
the proper verb form.
i) 'Dharmajipet' is III person, singular (it), so
the verb form to be used here is 'has been'
and not 'have been'. So the correct form of
the question is:
Why has Dharmajipet village been/ why
hasn't (has not) Dharmajipet
been developed? = .....

ii) This sentence is wrong.
There is no such verb as 'has

Telugu.
A: If too many people cook a single item
of food, they will get in each other's
way = They will be obstructing ..
.... each other.
Q: What is the difference between the
words 'meaning' and
'synonym'?
A: 'Meaning' of a word is
just one word, or more
than one word giving
an explanation of the
word. It is a definition of the
word.
Eg: Success - meaning:
Achieving what a person
wants.
A synonym is a 'word' (only
one word) having the same mean-
ing as another word.
Success - Synonym: Victory. Another
point about synonyms is though they have
the same meaning they are not used in the
same context.
'He had success in the exam'- We can't use,
'victory' here. Such words are synonyms.

Q: Sir, I found these sentences in the book
"Tales for children" by Leo Tolstoy.
i) When they were gone... ii) I lifted the coat
the bread was gone. Are these correct? If
so, what is the tense? And previ-
ous voice?
A: When they were gone/ The
bread was gone.
In these expressions, were/ was
gone are in the 'be' form + past
participle form. Unlike all other verbs
in 'be' form + Past participle form, was/
were gone is NOT in the passive form.
'Go' has no passive form as it is an
intransitive verb (a verb without an
object).
'Gone' in expressions like is/ are/
was/ were gone means, of a person hav-
ing left a place . .... .
.... and of a thing, not to be seen where it
was last seen .. :.. .... ......
. ....... . ....
He/ she/ it is gone = He/ she/ it had gone.
They are gone = They have gone.
In 'is/ are/ was/ were gone', the importance is
for the fact that somebody/ something is not
seen in the place they were before.
Q: Which word is used for a school advertise-
ment?
Canvassing or Campaigning. Explain the
difference.
A: Going round places and asking people there
to admit their children in a school/ college is
to canvass.
'Canvass' has the meaning of going to people
to try to get their support for something. In this
sense, 'canvass' is the right word.
'Campaign' means a planned activity or a
series of activities for achieving a goal. This
does not apply to private schools meeting people
and canvassing for students.

Q: Can you explain metaphor and simile.
A: 'Simile' is a direct comparison between two
things having some similarity.
In a simile we use words like, 'like, as,
as.....as'.
Eg: He is tall like a giraffe. Here a man's height
is compared to a giraffe directly by the use
of the word, 'Like'. So it is a simile.
Metaphor is also a comparison but in
Metaphor, we don't say, 'A is like B, but 'A is
B'.
Eg: The camel is the ship of the desert.
