Summer 2014

As I am at a meeting at the UN I am reminded of how much work has gone
into the preparation of this very special Youth Assembly at the United
Nations. All summer long, the dedicated team led by Beatrice Cord on
the program side, and Yanyu Li and Victor Izquierdo on the logistics side,
has donated service to your community. Their work will better enable
you to discover, learn, network, and utilize what you learn here in your
communities and for everyones communities within the UNs new, Post
2015 Agenda. For that, I am grateful and awed by their service in the name
of every delegate here.
They will demonstrate ways in which youth leaders can develop new
strategies for global development alongside the UNs Post 2015 Agenda in
areas such as culture, travel, and sports. As Executive Director of Friendship
Ambassadors Foundation for twenty years, I have witnessed culture raise the
consciousness of people and move them to action on behalf of their weakest
brethren; I have been a part of cultural tourisms empowerment, where
respectful, locally owned and managed travel is driven by an industry that
employs women and youth in greater numbers and at higher positions of
power than in any other eld in the world.
Service to others is the rent we pay for our existence on earth...And now
is the time for you to begin to pay rent for being allowed to live in this
great world we share. I urge you to use these days well, remain open, and
attentive. Have a good time with this new and mind-expanding information;
meet new colleagues - and join the International Youth Council, your alumni
organization. And most of all, leave here with the promise to do good things,
better, and together. Remember, YA delegates: you are among the very best
world-shapers. You can make the world a better place, one community at a
time. Go for it!
Welcoming Address from:

We believe that youth have the power to change the world and empowering
them to do so is what FAF is committed to achieve through the Youth
Assembly.
We engaged in this journey with FAF because we both think that the
mission of the YA@UN lies in engaging youth in a global dialogue on
important matters regarding their future and moreover in empowering
youth by providing them with the necessary tools to become active actors
in the post-2015 development agenda, thus shaping a brighter and more
sustainable future. Through a partnership between the UN, the civil
society and the private sector, this years YA@UN will take a step forward
and present initiatives that will perpetuate the role of youth in creating
positive social change. We are looking forward to sharing these initiatives
with our delegates and help them become ambassadors of change in their
