Guide to Floor Cleaning the Various

Types of Floor
Floors are made from various materials and they are treated
diferently from one another. Sometimes even if they are made
from the same material but they have a diferent surface fnish
they have to be treated diferently. For example with wood foors
you need to be aware if it has a surface fnish or a penetrating
fnish. Floor cleaning is not as simple as it may seem. Below is a
guide on how to care for the diferent types of foors.
Floor wood with penetrating fnish
A foor with a penetrating fnish has a more matte fnish meaning
you can actually feel the grain of the wood. hese types of foors
are sealed or covered with the oil or wax which has gone into the
wood. !enetrating fnishes comprise sealers or resins.
"o not use water base cleaner# instead use solvent$based.
Spray a light flm of natural citrus solvent in the foor. %se a
dry mop with microfber or a simple dust mop.
"o not use cleaners which are meant for surface fnish
because these could leave the foor cloudy.
&hen something is spilled on the foor wipe it immediately
with a slightly damped cloth and afterwards hand bufed dry.
o eliminate the white spots made by water spills use the
best steel wood and a small amount of natural citrus solvent'
rubbing it slowly in circular motion until the spot disappers.

Laminated fooring
he top of the fooring is called laminated when a hard melamine
wears layer of printed paper. )t is very sturdy and easy to clean.
*ou can avoid using cleaning products in cleaning laminated foors
since you do not need them.
+acuum' then use a wipe with damp cloth or use a dust mop.

sponge or cloth.

Resilient foors
hese are /nown to be the softer foors and they include vinyl'
linoleum and cor/. he linoleum is usually mista/en for the vinyl
although they are made from very diferent in material. +inyl is
synthetic whereas real linoleum is made from natural ingredients.
Sweep' dust mop and vacuum regularly

ba/ing powder and carefully wipe with a wet rug
Ceramic foor tile
he water douses the porous tile and prevents the cleaning
agents from penetrating to the tile body. &hen foor cleaning tiles
you should be rinsed the foor well.
3aintenance includes sweeping' or using dry or damp
mopping or vacuuming to lessen the grit.
Start with the most gentile way possible which may be
simple but as warm water.

as the materials which the foors are made of and their fnish.
