Introduction
This document addresses the common problems, and solutions related to the Cisco Media Convergence Server
7830 (MCS−7830) in the Cisco Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data (AVVID) product line.

Cisco MCS−7830 Will Not Boot with Initial Power On

Problem
The system will not boot and an error message states that no boot device is found.

Solution
During shipping, the Smart SCSI Array controller pops out of its slot, and sometimes the routing information
base (RIB) card also slips out. This causes the MCS−7830 to think that these hardware components do not
exist.

To solve this problem, do the following:

1. Open the left side of the MCS−7830 and remove both the RIB card and the SCSI Array card.
2. Replace both cards back into their respective slots, making sure they are secure.
3. Close the computer, and then reboot it.

No SCSI Device Found Error while Booting

Problem
Upon booting the MCS−7830, a message appears that states: "No SCSI Device Found." The MCS−7830 boots
and operates properly.

Solution
This is just an annoying error warning and does not affect the computer's performance. There are no SCSI
devices attached to the SCSI port on the system. The drives are attached to the array controller.

You can disable the delivery of this message by doing the following:

1. Press the F10 key while rebooting the system.

2. Enable the advanced features by pressing ctrl + a.
3. Select the System Configuration.
4. Select Configure Hardware.
5. Select Review or modify hardware settings.
6. Select View or edit details.
7. Scroll down to "Bus 1 − Compaq Wide−Ultra SCSI Controller (Port 1)."
8. Look for "SCSI Resources," and then press Enter.
9. Select the Disable option, and then press Enter. You will see a box that will warn you about disabling
PCI devices. Select the Yes option, and then press Enter.
10. Scroll down to "Bus 1 − Compaq Wide−Ultra SCSI Controller (Port 2)". Look for "SCSI Resources".
Press Enter.
11. Select the Disable option. Press Enter. You will see a box that will warn you about disabling PCI
devices. Select the Yes option. Press Enter.
12. Press the F10 key.
13. Select Save and exit.
14. Save the configuration and restart the computer.
15. Press Enter and allow the system to reboot.

Cisco MCS−7830 Sticks in F1 Mode while Booting

Cisco − Cisco Media Convergence Server Booting Problems

Problem
When one of the power supplies is not plugged in, the system does not reboot automatically. The system
stops, requiring that you select F1 to continue. The F1 boot prompt appears at each boot up.

Solution
The F1 bootup prompt occurs on the Cisco MCS−7830 when there are only two (out of three) power supplies
plugged into a power source. The system detects that the power supply is not redundant because two power
supplies are required to operate the system.

You can solve this issue in one of two ways:

• Plug in the third power supply.

• Disable the F1 boot prompt.

The first solution above is self explanatory. To disable the F1 boot prompt, do the following:

1. Press the F10 key while rebooting the system.

2. Enable the advanced features by pressing ctrl + a.
3. Select the System Configuration.
4. Select Configure Hardware.
5. Select Review or modify hardware settings.
6. Select View or edit details.
7. Scroll down to the Advanced Features section and search for the F1 Boot Prompt option
8. Press Enter.
9. Select the Disable − skip prompt option.
10. Press Enter.
11. Press the F10 key.
12. Select Save and exit.
13. Save the configuration and restart the computer.
14. Press Enter and allow the system to reboot.

Caution: This will solve the problem mentioned above, but you might not see other error

messages. Be cautious when implementing this solution.

Monitor Will Not Work

Problem
The monitor will not show anything, but a blank screen.

Solution
The monitor might be plugged into the integrated video card on the mother board. If this is the case, plug the
monitor into the RIB card, or use the Y cable that comes with the computer to connect the integrated card and
the RIB card to the monitor.
