DAMIAN DOMINGO
Domingo is known for being among the first to start painting
secular subjects, a major departure from the typical religious
paintings of the previous era. It was the period of the rising middle
class, and his tipos del pais or paintings of native Filipinos in their
costumes were in demand as decorative items among the
ilustrados as well as among the tourists and foreign residents.

JUSTINIANO ASUNCION
Perhaps the most satirical of witticisms expressed about
the Philippines during the Spanish times was made by a
visiting French nobleman in a report to his country in 1766.
I am writing you from the other side of the globe, and
may I even add from the 14th century ! declared M. Le
Gentil de la Galasiere who, steeped in the ideas of the then
modern French Enlightenment, must have been intensely
shocked about the medieval lifeways of Spains territory in
Asia.

SIMEON FLORES

1904 ) was one of the most celebrated Filipino painters in
the last quarter of the 19th century. He was born on 28
October 1839 in Manila in San Fernando de Dilao (now

most prolific years of his career. He was influenced by his
two uncles who were painters: Fabian Gonzales, who
decorated the ceilings of Malacaang Palace and who
collaborated with the Italian scenographists, Divella and
Alberoni in house painting commissions for the native

1.How do computer store data and information?
Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of
computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. It is a core function
and fundamental component of computers. The central processing unit (CPU) of a computer
is what manipulates data by performing computations. In practice, almost all computers use
a storage hierarchy, which puts fast but expensive and small storage options close to the
CPU and slower but larger and cheaper options farther away. Often the fast, volatile
technologies (which lose data when powered off) are referred to as "memory", while slower
permanent technologies are referred to as "storage", but these terms can also be used
interchangeably. In the Von Neumann architecture, the CPU consists of two main parts:
control unit and arithmetic logic unit (ALU). The former controls the flow of data between
the CPU and memory; the latter performs arithmetic and logical operations on data.
2. What is bit and byte?
Bit
-- like an atom -- the smallest unit of storage
A bit stores just a 0 or 1
"Computer is all 0's and 1's" ... bits
Anything with two separate states can store 1 bit
--Nick's tennis racket example
Chip uses electricity 0/1 states
Hard drive uses spots North/South magnetism 0/1 states
Bit too small to be much use
Group 8 bits into a byte
Byte
One byte = grouping of 8 bits
e.g. 0 1 0 1 1 0 1 0
One byte can store one letter, e.g. 'b' or 'x'
