Indo Pak relations

At the entrance of year 2000 I'm thinking about the future of Indo-Pak relationships. As
you know very well that even after the 52 years of freedom we're still immature in our
relations. So far we couldn't develop strong and productive relations with each other. This
is really tragic that the two great nations of this region are still wasting their resources
and energies on arms race against each other. Both look for the opportunities to harm
each others national interests and integrity. None seems to be serious, devoted, and
dedicated with the people, country, region, and about the ground realities that exist here.
It is evident few days back during the hijacking tragic event. I got opportunity to listen to
Indian media men, scholars, analysts and experts. I'm really sorry to say that the kind of
image exists (that has been developed) in Indian society about Pakistani people is not
very good. We're taken as wild beasts, terrorists, terrorism lovers and supporters of
terrorism. I feel this image has been developed by the media, elite and ruling class just to
protect their rule. Please keep in mind that I’m not defending the Pakistani ruling and
elite class, I’m just trying to represent people of Pakistan. In fact I don't discriminate
among people of both countries and at the same time I don't differentiate among ruling
class of the two nations. Their interests and ruling style are almost identical.

The ruling classes of both countries do not let their people to come closer and understand
each other. They do so intentionally just to preserve their rule and rights. They have
developed conflicts and pseudo-nationalism among people of their countries at the cost of
each others opposition. They are utilizing effectively this and prolonging their rule
without any fear.

Unfortunately poor people of both countries did not get the actual independence. In fact
after the expulsion of English imperialism from India they came under the influence of
local imperialists. The most interesting fact is that the people of both nations have great
number of similarities between them while the differences are very few. This again
provides with the basis for good relations. You can analyze the similarities by yourself by
looking at their customs, believes, rituals, habits, cultural issues, food and clothing,
likings and dislikings, strong family system, languages, intelligence level, sorrows, griefs,
happiness, wedding issues, economic status, illiteracy, poverty, problems and several
others but in return I find very few disagreements. Despite all these facts that I have
mentioned people have strong misconceptions for each other and these are growing and
increasing day by day because of leadership of the two nations. At present there is no
sign of hope in betterment of relations but definitely one day it must come to an end. You
might be wondering how this is possible. This can be possible only if people (the real
masters of India and Pakistan as opposed to local imperialists) take the charge of their
countries and become the rulers. This seems first very difficult but this is not impossible.
I'm hopeful about this event. This is the fate of people and truly the only way to change
the fate of people's lives.
