1. 1 Timoth !"1#
o *+ont let anyone loo% down on you because you are young, but set an e,ample
for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.* This
scripture not only gives specific instructions for young people to follow in
maintaining their integrity, it also indicates that youth is not an e,cuse for poor
behavior. In this verse, )aul encourages Timothy, a young man, to live his life in a
way that will encourage others to do the same. !hen a person who has devoted
his life to following Christ is tempted to behave in a manner inappropriate to his
values, he can turn to this verse as a reminder of what is e,pected of him as a
Christian.
$alatians %"1!
o *-ay I never boast e,cept in the cross of our (ord Jesus Christ, through which
the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.* In modern !estern
society it is common "" and often encouraged "" for people to boast about
themselves. .elf"aggrandi$ement is too often the norm and its very easy for
young people to get caught up in this trend. In this verse, )aul offers a reminder
that those who have placed their faith in Christ have ac%nowledged that the only
good within them is the grace of love of Jesus. They no longer need to define
themselves by the standards of the world and, in fact, have put to death the
trappings of the world. 'oung people can rely on this verse to e,perience the
freedom of %nowing that their worth is found only in the unsha%able %ingdom of
&od.

Psalm &1"#
o *I will say of the (5R+, He is my refuge and my fortress, my &od, in whom I
trust.* This declaration brings comfort and confidence to young people struggling
to understand and ad6ust to a world that can at times be brutal and bitter,
reminding them that they can always find refuge in the (ord. Teenagers, in
particular, can find it difficult to establish trust with anyone, but this verse assures
them that they can always trust in &od.
Team ' Praer $roup
o Team 7 is a prayer group activity that helps young people encourage each other to
build and nurture their relationship with the (ord. Its a very simple activity, in
which three people agree to meet regularly to pray together. 1ach time they meet,
they bring a new person into the group. !hen they reach si, participants, they
split into two new groups of three and the process starts over again. #s the groups
multiply and more %ids are committed to prayer, their faith will draw strength
from the support of their peers.
(amil of (aith )inner
o These gatherings bring together people of various generations to build productive
relationships and to encourage one another through faith. In this activity, families
pair up with young people who need guidance, meeting regularly for dinner. This
gives the young people the chance to become part of a caring family, benefiting
from the positive influence of adults and children who base their lives on
Christian values and encourage them to do the same.
