Friendship

Friendship is a necessary aspect of every human's life, as we are not self sufficient in and of
ourselves (Other Selves, pg. 30). Despite its necessity, in some cases we are either forced
or morally required to end these relationships. When the trust between two parties has been
broken, the loyalty of the friendship is soiled, and it is therefore a true and just action to end
the friendship. First, let's define what it means to be a friend. Friends can be described as:
"an intimate associate, reliable, one who is not an enemy or foe, an ally, etc" (Webster's, pg.
540). Thus, based upon the definition of a friend, we can assert that friends should not betray
one another, regardless of the circumstance. This is true, if and only if, it is in the best
interest of the friend. Secondly, trust is an issue that every platonic friendship must deal with.
Whether dealing with matters of trust is active or passive, its power is still a prevalent and
pertinent quality that is mutually understood. Trust is an unwritten rule between friends and is
defined as the "firm belief or confidence in the honesty, integrity, reliability, justice, etc of
another person." (Webster's, pg. 1436) Trust is also described as "faith"(Webster's, pg.
1436). When using a word such as "faith," that describes a substantial belief in one another,
it is very difficult to argue that breaking the trust of the friendship is ever in the best interest of
the friend. In addition, friends are loyal. By definition loyal friends are, "faithful to those
persons ideals" and are, "under obligation to defend, support, or be true to," each other
(Webster's, pg. 802). Although the definitions of loyalty, as well as its connotations, scream
commitment loyalty actually exists in many degrees. Loyalty can be seen as the pinnacle of
the friendship in which case you would be willing to risk life and limb for that person. Or at the
opposite end of the spectrum loyalty may not be taken seriously at all....

My friend
I have many friends at home and at school. Of them, I consider Sunil as my best friend. Sunil
studies with me in the same class. He sits by my side in the classroom. He helps me in all matters.
If there is a quarrel or dispute between me and any other boy in the school, he always takes my
side and stands by me.
Sunil lives with his parents near the hospital. His father is a doctor who has been provided with
an office quarter. Sunil attends school by a bicycle, while I go there afoot, because my house is not
far from the school. Sometimes, Sunil comes to our house after school hours; and my mother
offers him Tiffin, as she gives it to me. We enjoy the food together.
Once I was very sick and was not able to attend school. Sunil heard the news and came to see me.
Looking at my feverish face, he silently wept in pain. That day I knew how much he loved me.
On another occasion, as he had to leave for his native place during a vacation, he wrote to me
every week, enquiring about my health and family. He has always been kind to me and keenly
interested in my affairs. I love Sunil, as he loves me. Whenever he goes for some days out of my
sight, his absence pains me a lot, and I sit down with my pen and paper to write a letter to him.
Sunil is my only friend in need, a friend, indeed, and my best friend, too.

2. Man is a social animal. Where ever, he goes, he makes friends but few are real friends. William
is my real friend. He is of my age and studies in my class.

William is quite tall, fair and healthy. He is an ideal student. He is hard working. He listens to the
teachers attentively. He is good in Basketball and Table Tennis, the game I like. He is well
behaved and liked by all.

William is always ready to help me. Whenever I have any difficulty in studies, he tries to solve it.
He is good at mathematics and I an weak. He helps me when needed. The problems that I do not
understand are explained by him. He does not lose patience, if I am slow in grasping it.

In the evening we always play together. We visit each others houses too. My parents like him
very much. He has become almost a member of my family. We discuss all problems in his
presence and at times consult him too. His parents treat me in the same way.

When my brother was hospitalized, he stood by me and shared my duties. A friend in need, is a
friend indeed I am lucky to have such a friend.

Computers
We are living in Computer age. Most of our day-to-day jobs are being influenced by the use of
computer. In some areas such as science and technology improvements cannot be achieved
without the use of computer. Hence it has become necessary for each and every one of us to have
a basic knowledge of computers.
Many people are aware that a computer is a machine that can perform arithmetic operations. But
they fail to understand that it is also a machine that can choose, copy, move, compare and
perform other non-arithmetic operations on many alphabetic, numeric and other symbols that we
use to represent things.
The four characteristics of computers, which make them very useful tools, are speed, storage
capacity, consistency and accuracy.
In addition to being fast, computers are also very accurate. However it has to be remembered that
the computer is only capable of doing what it is instructed to do. Hence, errors may occur only
due to inaccurate program ( a series of step-by-step instructions that provide a problem, solution
and tells the computer exactly what to do) or data.
Unlike human beings, computers are very consistent and are not bored or tired when performing
many thousands of calculations. They are ideal machines for carrying out works of a highly
repetitive nature. They can also store large amounts of data. Once recorded, a piece of
information can never be forgotten and can be retrieved within a fraction of a second.
The first computers were built to manipulate number in order to solve arithmetic problems. But
soon computer scientists invented methods to manipulate symbols and data.
Computers are electronic devices that can store, transmit and manipulate data and information.
To process data it requires instructions to be given. The instructions are input through an input
device called keyboard, which is then processed, and the output is viewed on an output device
such as a monitor.
2. The Negative Effects of Violent
Computer Games on Children
The negative effects of violent computer games on children
Computer games have a negative impact on the development of children, especially
contributing to aggressive and anti-social behaviour. Playing computer games has a
greater negative effect because it involves interactivity which impacts on learning
processes of the child. Numerous studies around the effects of violence in
television, movies and video games on children have taken place over the last twenty
years. The outcomes of various studies have shown that there is a negative effect of
consuming violent media. When it comes to computer games, however, research by
Douglas Gentile and Craig Anderson, indicates that violent computer games have an
even stronger effect on childrens behaviour because of its interactivity. The
General Aggression Model (GAM) has been developed to integrate recent findings in
aggression theory and research with earlier models. In this model, the performance
of aggression is based on learning, activation and application of aggression-related
knowledge stored in memory. It suggests that violent media causes short-term
increases in aggression. Various studies were performed to prove this statement,
involving exposing young adults to violent computer games, and testing their reaction
to stimuli. The result was a quantifiable impact on the individuals internal state, the
conclusion being that violent media increases aggressive cognition (including
previously learned aggressive scripts and aggressive perceptual schemata), by
increasing arousal, or by creating an aggressive affective state. The long term
effects involve learning processes. The model puts forward the idea that each
encounter with violent media, is essentially one more learning trial, since knowledge
structures are built on how humans perceive, interpret, judge and respond to events
based on interactions in the real (in the family or at school) or perceived (the media)
world. As stated earlier, the...

Favorite Cartoon Show
When I was little I used to watch a cartoon titled Popeye the Sailor The main character of
this cartoon is Popeye. That is my most favorite cartoon character. I watched this cartoon
everyday for popeye. At that time I dreamed to be a man like Popeye. Popeye is a fictional
character created by Elzie Crisler Segar. In this cartoon Popeye eats spinich and gets
muscles and unbelivable strength. He has a girl friend that he is constantly fighting over, and
an enemy that is constantly trying to kidnap his girlfriend Olive. He gets real larg fists and he
always has a pipe in his mouth and a can of spinach in his hand. He always wears the same
blue jeans, shirt and shoes. When he eats the spinach he shows his muscles and there is
just one little nub not his whole arm. He always has hilarious cath phrases like Im Popeye
the sailor man. He always wears a hat that has an ancore on the front and he calls him self
a sailor. His girl friend Olive has long black hair and when she gets mad she gets real red.
His enemy always kidnaps Olive and takes her some where so Popeye has to go through
numorus clues the enemy left laying then there is always a big halarious fight at the end, and
it always ends up that Popeye gets her back and they make up and thats the end of the 30
min. show. His bulging forearms, squinty eyes and staccato chuckle are recognized by many
generations. Till now I watch this cartoon and I dreamed that I could be a man like him.

Grandparents Importance
Many parents fear becoming grandparents, because it is a sign that there is a new
generation coming, and it often makes them feel old. But don't worry; this is simply an
irrational fear. Grandparents are very important people, and they do not necessarily
need to act old but they are very wise. Just because you are a little older doesn't
mean that you have to stay confined to a rocking chair. Many people over the age of
70 are still working nowadays, proving that age does not inhibit them.

Grandparents have lived through three stages in their lives, childhood, adulthood,
and grandparenthood. Through every stage, we learn new things and gain wisdom
and knowledge. As we learn more, we know ourselves more and the world as we
know it. This wisdom needs to be passed on to future generation, and this is why
grandparents are so important.

Grandparents are important in the formation of their grandchildren's character and
perspective on life. It is important to help your children take care of your
grandchildren, since you have been through it with them, and they need your help.
Grandparents need to raise their grandchildren to be respectful and to appreciate life.

Unfortunately, many grandparents have been separated from their children and
grandchildren because of family feuds and the like. This doesn't allow children to be
with their grandparents and learn from them. It is your responsibility to stay close to
your family and visit them, write to them, or call them.

As the oldest member of the family, you have to pass on the legacy of the
generations from before. You need to be the historian of the family, as well as the
mentors and role models. Grandparents need to teach their grandchildren what it
means to be in the family. By knowing what their family has done, children can feel
proud of their past and be ready for the future.

Being experienced from watching life come and go is something that only the
grandparents can have. You know what is right and what...

Should Some Music Be Censored?

some people think that music should be censored so all audiences can hear it
without containing and controversial lyrics. Other's believe it should not be censored
and musical artists should be able to speak, sing, rap, or rhyme freely without anyone
censoring them. "Whether a person finds a work obscene depends largely on his or
her moral or religious beliefs. These views change with each generation and further
complicate the censoring dilemma." this quote is very true. Religious or moral beliefs
have a great influence on how a person feels about censoring, and as generations
pass on the common beliefs on it may change. Right now, america is more
uncensored than ever. However, things were very different a few generations ago. I
define censoring as being the control of what people may say or hear, read or write,
or see or do. Censoring music lyrics is not the answer, Censoring music should start
in the home. Parents don't have to know all the songs that kids listen to, but they
should have an idea of what type of music is promoting their children's interest. When
I was growing up in my home my parents realized what type of music i listened to, but
out of respect for them I try not to play it all the time. The famous rapper Heavy D,
always quoted that, "It is up to the household for parents to control the viewing and
listening privilages of their children. I don't think they should censor music because it
is common sense. The parents should be aware that there is a CD warning label. It's
the parents responsibility to monitor what their children watch or listen to because
music is not the only factor that affects teenage behavior, Politicians and certain
organizations say that some artists are irresponsible with their influence and
positions. They also say that lyrics in some songs are a bad influence on today's
youth because it is vulgar or abrasive. and because of this it causes unruly behavior
in teens.

The Influence of Music on Mind and
Body

Music has a very persuasive control over people. It can increase the rate in which we learn
things. Music can improve our daily lives and our well-being. It can affect our blood pressure
and body organs. Music is a very powerful entity that can drive people's emotions. Our body
experiences something similar to a chain reaction when listening to music therefore; the
psychological relationship between music and the mind is very powerful. The auditory cortex
in the temporal lobe of the brain connects directly or indirectly to other major nerves of the
body. These connections include the nerves in the back muscles, larynx, lungs, heart, and
the abdominal organs, including the entire digestive tract. It is because of these major
connections to the auditory nerves that music can somehow affect all these vital organs.
Music can activate the limbic system of the brain that is important in producing pleasurable
effects. Listening to uplifting music activates areas in the limbic system that releases
endorphin. The limbic system has a large number of receptors that are highly sensitive to the
presence of this endorphin; this release of endorphin as well as the pleasurable effects of the
music could be the reason for liking and disliking certain music. Music affects our feelings
and emotions, so if emotions are affected, then our body will more than likely be affected.
Our mental and emotional states are influenced by music, which can alter the autonomic
nervous system. The autonomic nervous system modulates almost every aspect of immune
function; therefore, because of its effect on our immune system, music is used as therapy for
a variety of illnesses. The use of music in relaxation therapy can significantly decrease heart
rate, skin temperature and muscle activity. Depending on the type of music you listen to,
different effects will take place. Light, easy-paced music tends to help most people
concentrate for a longer period; it also improves their ability to memorize...

2Teenagers Nowadays Do Not Like to
Read Books. Do You Agree?

Reading is a great educational review for all walks of life. Reading expands the
mind's vocabulary and gives a more positive impact on a person's life. This of course
is a good thing because as a teenager who is growing, it is important for the mind to
develop in the best way it could. There is a quote saying that people who read,
succeed. In my opinion, teenagers nowadays do not like to read books. There are
many factors contributing to this fact. However there is still a small percentage of
them who are still the bookworms. But still the majority of them do not like to read
books.

Among the factors that cause teenagers to not read books is that they are too tied to
school related activities. School activities which are usually mandatory are attended
by these students who are teenagers. From school activities like homeworks to extra
co-curricular activities, they are held on to it. The ever-piling homeworks is already
good enough to cause a student to not to study what more of reading. The co-
curricular activities on the other hand are where the student in this case a teenager
would like to be away from academics for a while.

Another playing factor in which I think that teenager do not like to read is because
they do not have the exposure from a young age. From a kid being at a young age
itself, parents should play their role by picking up a book and reading it. Kids at that
age are in a learning process where they learn by copying. So by the parents
showing their kids good example, the kid is surely able to build the reading habit from
that small age itself. And once the habit is there, it will not die off as the kids grow.
Therefore, if the teenagers had a strong foundation in their young age, now they will
be reading progressively.

Teenagers also do not like to read because of their own attitude themselves. They
think that reading is just a waste of time and it is boring. This is where they go wrong
and get themselves involve in more fun activities...

The Continued Importance of Books

Many people don't realize the potential of books. It is a highly emotional even when a
serious book collector takes a well bound book of favorite content into his or her
hands; it is as though they are holding and cherishing an invaluable and exquisite
piece of art. Books have been an issue of many of religions and even militant factions
and yet, they remain today providing us with places to go, an escape from reality, and
higher knowledge.

First and foremost, books are free voyages to anywhere in the world. You can open a
book and with the flick of your eyes and the will of your imagination, be where ever
the book takes you. If the book is about Ireland, then you can read about the country
as though you were there and the only limitations as to how real it may be, is your
own imagination. Best of all, you can read for free either in your own home with your
own books, or at your local library.

Another favored reason books are adored by so many, would be that while reading a
book you are escaping your reality; your day to day life. You can become any
character in the books you read and leave all of your troubles on the back burner of
your mind. It provides a much needed break from our day to day activities and
stresses and often times the relief allows us to better deal with our problems.
Sometimes you can read a book and it may present a solution to a problem that had
not even occurred to you.

Perhaps an even better result of books then a reality break would be that books can
provide knowledge to all ages and education levels. A person who is not
technologically skilled has difficulty using computers and the information highway.
They can pick up a book and find the same such information. Children read and
learn; developing their minds as they go. College students read books to help them in
their future degrees and careers. Even professionals read books to update their
knowledge of a subject. People that never finished school can read books and give
them...

Fun, scary, and nurve recking....The first day of highschool.

New school, new teachers, and new friends, all part of another new school year.

This one is different though, its the first day of high school. Some kids act really

scared or nurvice and others dont. The truth is, mostly everyone who walks through

those doors for the first time is in one way or another scared. Some other

students think that the first day is the easiest, because of no work having to be done,
and

just sitting around listening to the teachers talk about what they are going to

need for that class. Nope the first day of school is the hardest.

The bell rings as you sprint to class. A couple minutes later you are sitting in your

chair ready to listen to the next teacher lecture. As days go on you find

yourself getting to class earlier and earlier each day. Finding new routes, talking a
little

more, taking more time between classes and the tension eases. The days do

not get harder, but the work and study habits do. Later days of the school year are

always easier then the first few.

No where to sit in the cafeteria. Cant find your friends, or a seat anywhere you look.

So you end up standing by a ledge near a window watching everyone else

sit and talk with there friends. You start feeling depressed and lonely. A few days
later

you start making new friends, talking to them, and sitting with them at lunch.

You will always make new friends as the year progresses.

There is nowhere to sit on the bus. You are the last stop, and your friends are all

What is a school? To me, a school is the center of education. It provides intellectual
,emotional as well as spiritual enrichment. I am sure everyone has their own notion of
what an ideal school is.It is a place where one feels most comfortable to learn in. In
my opinion,an ideal school would consists of a building with an ultra modern
infrastructure and top-notch facilities. All the classrooms will have colourful walls with
wonderful paintings and thought-provoking pictures hanging on them. All the
classrooms will be well-lit and fully air-conditionered.It would be perfect if the tables
and chairs are arranged in a semi-circle facing the teacher. Apart from that,we will
also need a well-equipped library with the state-of-art facilities for students to conduct
their research and studies. Computer cataloguing should also be introduced to make
referencing easier. In addition an ideal school should have a shopisticated
gymnasium and sports centre.Athletes and swimmers can also train at the school
mini-stadium and swimming pool. Students nowadays are burdened with homework
and endless examinations. My constructive and productive homework shoul be given
instead of burdening homework.Students should not be doing their homework for the
sake of doing them.Teachers could perhaps have Biology classes outdoors so that
students can really appreciate the beauty of nature or organized field trips to
exhibition and conventions to make learning interesting. Traditional art and culture
classes should also be held in the ideal school to nurture the spirit of appreciation
among students. Moreover,to maximize the students learning capacities, lessons
should start at 10.00 a.m.There should be breaks in between so that students can
digest knowledge from the previous lesson instead of rushing to the next lesson
straight after the previous one. In this era of globalization,ICT is of upmost
importance .So why cant schools have paperless teaching and learning?Heavy

Sport has many positive benefits in our everyday life. It can help us learn many life
lessons such as teamwork. It can boost your self-esteem and make you more
relaxed. Sports can teach teamwork and help achieve goals.

Fighting for a common goal with a group of other players, coaches, managers, and
community members teaches you how to build a collective team and effectively
communicate the best way to solve problems to strive towards a victory. This will be
very helpful in life when encountering problems in the work force, at school, or in any
occasion. Sports boost self-esteem. Watching your hard work pay off and achieving
your dreams brings about tons of self-confidence. If you can achieve something in a
sport or with a fitness goal, then you know you can achieve any other goal you set.
This is a very rewarding and exciting process that makes you feel good about
yourself. Playing a sport cuts down on pressure and stress on your daily life.
Exercising is a natural way to loosen up and let go off stress. Also, you will most
likely make many new friends on the team who can be there for you as a support
system. When you find you are having a lot of stress, you can call up teammates and
head to the gym to talk it out and play it out. For all of these reasons, it is always a
great decision to get involved in sport. When you get involved and start playing sport,
you dont think about the benefits of sport, instead you will just think that it is just plain
fun.

My Favourite Sport Swimming
Swimming has been my favourite sport since I was very small. I learnt to swim when
I was just 5 years old. Swimming is a very popular sport; furthermore, it provides
individuals with several physical and mental benefits. There are some reasons why
swimming is popular. Firstly, swimming is a sport for all age groups; besides, it is a
lifetime activity. People can learn to swim as young as 4 or 5 years old or as old as
60 or 70. All it takes is the right instruction and desire to get in the pool. Secondly,
swimming is cheap. You don't have to spend much money on it. All you need is just a
swimsuit that makes you feel comfortable and a goggle that keeps water from your
eyes. Even though you have to buy an admission ticket, it is not so expensive.
Anyone can afford to go to swim. Finally, swimming is one of the most popular sports
in the world. Besides its popularity, swimming is a good activity that provides
individuals with several physical benefits. First of all, swimming is a movement
through water using one's legs and arms that provides an all body workout. As all of
your muscles are used during swimming, it is an excellent form of exercise.
Moreover, swimming can also be very beneficial to your heart and lungs. After a few
laps, swimming can help you cool-down, move blood through your muscles to help
them recover. Swimming builds up muscle strength , so your body is kept in perfect
shape. In addition to its physical benefits, swimming is also an effective way to relax.
Swim with a very low effort, let your mind wander, focus on nothing but the rhythm of
your stroke. This form of meditation can help you gain a feeling of well-being.
Furthermore, swimming is a wonderful recreational activity for you and your family.
Swimming gives you a chance to be with your family or with some friends at the pool,
or just to dip yourself in cool water. Spending hours at the pool on hot summer days
is always my favourite pastime....

Travelling Is a Part of Education

In the past, travel was considered an essential part of education. Poets and writers
realized the value of travel and went out to other countries in search of knowledge. A
mans education was not completed until he had visited foreign lands.

That travel broadens the mind cannot be denied. Those who remain within the
confines of their homes are cut off from the outside world. As a result, they develop a
narrow outlook on life. But those who travel come into contact with various types of
people whose ways of life are completely different from theirs. They see things with
their own eyes and have a better understanding of the affairs of the world. The
impressions that they receive while they travel remain fresh in their minds for many
years, and all false impressions and ideas are removed from their minds. Thus, they
are able to see things in their proper perspective and make correct judgments and
decisions. And being able to make correct decisions is a valuable part of education.

It is argued, however, that the presence of the great variety of books, newspaper, the
radio and television today obviates the need for travel to acquire knowledge. One
would study in the comfort and privacy of ones own home and absorb all the
knowledge that one desires. But there are many things which books cannot describe
effectively. For example, the love and respect people in other lands have for us and
the natural beauty of the various parts or the world cannot be described properly in
words. They have to be seen and felt. Besides, not all can understand everything that
they read about people away from their homes. To such people, especially, travel is
an important means of education.

Of course, travel involves time and money which most people cannot afford. But
the value of travel as a means of education is so great that time and money spent on
travel are not a waste of effort.

People travel not only to see things but also to meet and learn about other people in
other...

Travelling is one of the most enjoyable recreations these days. The idea of travelling may be
different: either just to break the daily routine or to satisfy peoples curiosity in seeing the
sights so much advertised on TV. Tastes differ and so do peoples preferences in types of
travelling. It can be individual or in a group led by a tour guide, extreme or quiet and calm.
People chose different means of transport: planes, trains, coaches, cars, bikes. Some
tourists enjoy hiking or hitch hiking. The others believe caravanning is the most appropriate
ways of travelling. But all of us are sure that travelling is one of the ways of discovering new
countries or learning more about their own one. People may argue about which is better to
travel abroad or around Russia. I can find some pros and cons in both variants. In both cases
you learn something new, see the places youve never been to, enjoy the atmosphere of old
cities or the modern architecture of the new towns. The sights worth seeing can be found
both in Russia and abroad. But the tourist service is better developed in Europe, for example,
than in Russia. Thats why its sometimes more comfortable to travel abroad. Besides, as the
English say, the grass is always greener , so we want to see the way people in other
countries live and act, learn about their traditions and habits. On the other hand, the tourist
business in Russia has been changing for the better lately. As the real patriots we can be
proud of so many historical cities, sights and places of interest. Id recommend foreign
tourists to see the capital of Russia-Moscow, its magnificent cathedrals, the ancient Kremlin,
the world famous Bolshoi Theatre. I would like them to walk along Tverskaya Street or
Kalinin Avenue, enjoy Red Square and Old Arbat. They can buy a lot of Russian souvenirs,
such as Matreshka, a flag of the Russian Federation, the symbols of Russia, etc. I would
invite them to Tula and show them the Museum of Samovars, the Kremlin,...

How can we make our town a better place to live in?

The living conditions in our city are getting worse and worse. Exhaust fumes and smoke
from the factories are polluting the air and trees are being cut down. Furthermore, the river is
being polluted by chemicals from the factories and people are suffering from breathing
difficulties and stomach problems. We should do something before its too late. The first thing
we can do is to stop throwing litter. Also, the city should place more garbage bins. People
should be more informed about the dangers of throwing your litter under the woods. This
way, our city will be cleaner. One thing we can also do is to use paper and cloth bags instead
of plastic bags. We can also fight against water pollution. We should stop using the products
of companies whose factories cause pollution, so we will force them to use environmentally
friendly production methods. The government should close these companies who have
polluted rivers for a long time. This way our rivers will be cleaner. People would have clean
water to drink and to swim in. There is also a way to fight against air pollution. It is mostly
caused by factories, so we should force factories to put filters on their chimneys. We can also
ban cars from the city centers and public transport should be improved, so that we could
travel less and less by cars. All things considered, there are many solutions to all the
problems. The sooner we put them into practice, the better our lives will become.

Life in a small town vs. Life in a big city
Life is a beautiful thing. Everyone has an interesting story about their life. It is known
that what is good for one person may not be good for another person. For example,
some people always prefer to live in a big city, and some people prefer to live in a
small town. Everyone has different points of view for that. A person has different
thinking and reason to choose a place for living. Jobs, education, family, lifestyle,
personal development and some other factors are responsible for choosing their
place to live. Both living in a big city and living in small town has its advantages and
disadvantages. First of all, In a small town, you can build up a good community
connection with people. Mostly, everyone knows each other. It gives you the
opportunity of receiving help whenever you need it. In a small town, people usually
have their own business or their own agricultural development. Life is very peaceful
in a small town compared to the big city. People are always free to help each other.
In a big city, life is very busy. A person can also make a good community connection
in a big city, but because of a busy lifestyle, it is hard to be connected every time.
You cannot easily get help like you can in small town. In other words, in a big city a
person just has himself. Secondly, people choose to live in a big city because of
job opportunities. In a small town, there are limited local jobs available. There may be
businesses hiring like grocery stores, gas stations and fast food chains. In a big city,
you can get lots of job opportunities. There are also job opportunities that have
special training and higher education, creating a chance for higher wages and more
promotions such as headquarters for corporations. Working for a big company has
great benefits that a small town business cant offer, like an opportunity to meet new
and interesting people in the job. Also, the crime rate in a big...

Future Worlds

I think future worlds will change earth entirely; there will probably be teleports and
other, various new machinery that could revolutionize the way humans live and
survive. Working may be a thing of the past if Robots start taking shape.

Various kind of medical advancements might change how long we can live for;
eternity might be possible in years down the track, that would make earth very
crowded and we humans possibly would have to move planet and inhabit another
land and environment, this could also make us evolve and we might need skills like
wings or gills to help us survive the new living conditions.

Other forms of life might be on other planets and cross breeding between alien and
human might have an effect on the physical and mental changes of humans. If life
down the track ends up like how it is stereotyped, then hover cars and flying cars
might be the way we transport. Food might also be different, due to the fact that we
are killing off animals as a source of meat. Plant life might also die off due to those
same reasons.

Another possible outcome in the future is the ice caps could melt, causing humans to
become water bound, this could either wipe us out, or we could maybe adapt to
these changes and change the way we can survive the new prominent element.

War could also be another way the world is changed, as much is it is a horrible thing,
it could help out thinning the numbers of humans populating earth. War could also
make people in general poorer, which might stop the rapid growth in technology.
After a war, lots of jobs would become available to repair, make or farm new things to
help things improve and to regenerate growth in the world. The downside to wars is,
smaller countries could be over run, many people die, families lose loved ones and
people are forced to live with such vivid memories while fighting.

The way the world is, really does depend on how us humans can maintain earths
natural resources and how much the...

Jules Verne pioneered the science fiction genre. He developed a vocabulary that
would

enhance his novel of science in 65 volumes, of which the most famous are Five
Weeks in a

Balloon (1862) Voyage to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues under
the

Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, and Mysterious Island. These novels also
provided Verne with the opportunity to engage in social criticism concerning, for
example, the abuses of European colonization, whales as an endangered species,
fossil fuel pollution, and slaughtering elephants for ivory. Most people called Verne a
prophet for his time. Verne was also a visionary with a sense of poetry evident in his
descriptions of the landscapes and animals that fill his fantasic journeys.

Some of Vernes Novels had objects or ideas that coincide with the future of his time
period or ours. Such as in Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. Captain
Nemos name is a subtle allusion to Homers Odyssey a Greek epic poem. In the
odyssey, Odysseus meets the monstrous Cyclops polyphemous during the course of
his wonderings. Odysseus translates to (No Man or No-body). In Latin Nemo
translates to the same exact thing. Similar to Nemo Odysseus is forced to wonder the
seas in exile ( though only for ten years ) and is tormented by the deaths of his ships
crew. Captain Maury in Vernes book, is a real life oceanographer who explored the
winds, seas, currents, and collected samples of the bottom of the seas and charted
all of these things. References are made to three other French men. Those are Jean-
Francois de Galaup, comte de la Prouse, a famous explorer who was lost while
circumnavigating the globe; Dumont D Urville, the explorer who found remains of the
ill fated ARP-II

ship of the count; and Ferdinand Lesseps builder of the Suez channel and the
nephew of the

man who was the soul survivor of De Galaups expedition.

The Nautilus seems to follow the footsteps of these men: she...

Playing Computer Games Is a Waste

It is a controversial issue that whether children should be allowed to play computer
games. Some people believe that computer games have no value in the growth of
children, and so, of course, children should not be allowed to play such time-wasting
games. While others insist that playing computer games can help children have a
better rest for relaxation and release the pressure from daily study. However, from
my personal angle alone, so objective are the computer games that the impact,
positive or negative, brought by playing them should be controlled by students
themselves. My friend, Micheal, is a good example of this issue. He likes playing
computer games online and also he has been a leader of a team with whom he has
played for many years. Notwithstanding so exceedingly does he enjoy playing such
games, his grades of study has never been impeded by playing them. Of course, he
can manage his time and arrange his spare time. However, he always leaves some
time for these games. He said that he can enjoy the success and even shape some
personalities, such as sense of responsibility, patience and tolerance, during playing
computer games. As a leader, he must take the duty of distributing missions, and
organize the time when their team could play. For his team, every week, it takes two
hours to play games online. During the process of playing, they have learned how to
cooperate with others which is the essence for their success. Frankly, Micheal can
use computer games to fully relax, form personalities and also make friends without
forgetting his main duties. In this case, online computer games bring students some
benefits if they can control them rather than be controlled. Conversely, it is
undeniable that playing computer games also causes considerably negative effects
on the educating students, especially the ones falling behind. Admittedly, in the
computer games are fictitious worlds, giving people endless space for imagining. In
such worlds, students can gain...

Recently, in this modern world that we live in, through the course of the improvement
of technology, computer games became very popular among the youth. Whether we
like it or not, computer games greatly influences our society today. Computer games
become a part of people's lives. Almost everyone has been exposed to some kind of
computer game be it role playing games, puzzle games, action games played on a
console, a personal computer, or a handheld device. Because of this sudden interest
in computer games, concerns about its effects, may it be positive or negative, arise.
Being in a modern world, we naturally question these things. Is it a safe practice to
play these games? Will it bring any good? Although many people think that it is
unhealthy to play computer games, I believe that, in moderation, computer games
can be beneficial in many ways such as in leisure and experience, learning, as well
as improving our cognitive, logical, and managerial skills.

First of all, video games can be considered as naturally alluring because of its
aesthetic images and the realistic experiences that comes with it. As Poole said,
video games, especially in these modern times, have very detailed audio-visual
effects, usually presenting a simulated fantasy world that appears to be close to
reality (qtd. in Mitchel and Savill-Smith 17). Truly, computer games improved visually
and became more realistic these past few years. These "fantasy worlds" are
commonly found in simulation games, which is very useful for learning because it
allows players to experience things that might be impossible or too expensive
(Mitchel and Savill-Smith 20). Because of this, video games can be liberating by
allowing people to do things they cannot normally do. These games are also usually
integrated with stories, which, according to McLellan, "are one of the most
fundamental and powerful synthetic experiences available to us (qtd in Mitchel and
Savill-Smith 20). Games also always have goals and...

Childhood Is the Happiest Time of a
Person's Life

1. Childhood is the happiest time of persons life.
As adult, we are usually happy on certain occasions such as when we get increase in
salary or get present on our birthday. Anyway, do you still remember what time when
we could be happy every day? Many people argue that childhood is time when we
could be cheerful every day. Personally, I agree with the statement that childhood is
the happiest time of person's life. There are some points to support my opinion.

First of all, children don't have responsibility like adults do. As adult, we have many
responsibilities. For example, as a husband and father, we have to provide basic
needs for our family such as food, house, education and other needs. For this
reason, we are required to work to collect money to meet these necessities. On the
other hand, children are not necessary to think and to do this because parents will
give all they need.

Another point is there are parents who always take care of children all the time.
Parents always keep their eye on their childrens safety. That's why children are not
afraid to do anything and to try something new no matter it is dangerous. They don't
care about anything they do because they don't know its consequences and they
believe that their parents will always save them. For example, we sometimes see
children feel happy play with fire even though it is dangerous. In contrast, adult will
always consider any impacts if they want to do something because they have to take
care themselves and to be responsible for their actions.

Moreover, children expectations are simple and limited compare to adults. To be
happy, children only need friends, toys and place to play. It is different with adults
who are always not satisfied with all they have had. They always expect more than all
are already in their hands . For example, having a small house is still not enough so
that they want a bigger one. Also, after they could buy a car, they also want to buy
another car. In career,...

Childhood Is the Best

Although there are many happy times in one's life, most of them are hidden in
Childhood. Like the root of a tree and the foundation of a building, childhood is the
base of a person's life. It is a time of joy and pleasure. Childhood is the happiest time
of a person's life in most cases. These twelve years of one's life are the merriest
memories of a person ,which when remembered, are sure to bring a smile on one's
face . Adults long for their childhood. According to them , childhood is the leisure time
to enjoy life.

A child has no responsibilities on its shouders. He does not have to worry about any
of the adult problems- money matters, their jobs , looking after the house and the
family, etc. The biggest problem of a child is to think how to get candy . Childhood is
a period which is associated with fun and play. The child hardly cares or knows what
others thinks of him. A child is like a deer wandering around in the feilds freely,
exploring things by himself, minding his own business. Children tend to enjoy life
without thinking about the consequences. Children are considered as the most
innocent human beings. This is because they are not prone to see the world as the
adults do. They are the most precious things in the world and the favourites in the
family. The child is given the most importance in the family. Much of the free time of
parents is devoted to their children. No matter how naughty a child is, he is loved by
everyone around him . Children have a totally different point of view of everything.
This is why, for a Child, there are no seven wonders of the world, there are seven
million.

Childhood is the shortest season of one's life, so, a child should be allowed to enjoy it
to the most. The charm of childhood cannot be forgotten . These memories leave an
everlasting impression on ones life . Thus, childhood is the best time in one's life.

Man and Nature

Dating back to the past, one would realise that man and nature used to share a close
and intimate relationship. Man, in prehistoric times. depended closely on nature. This
dependence was wrought not only because of the need for food and water but also
for their survival. Back then, man did not live in the modern and new and modern
houses that we do today, their houses were made of simple materials that could be
found anywhere in the green and lush forests. Nature was said to be a part of mans
everyday life, the two both inter-related and inter-dependant.

However, today in the 21st century, things have changed due to technological
advancements. Man is now unknowingly starting to do things that harm nature. Right
here at home, Cineplexs, shopping centres, hotels, taxis, libraries, restaurants and
even my school -Temasek Junior College all feel like they are ganging up to freeze
thin skinned people like me. Think about it, would it not be absurd for everyone to
travel carrying a woolly sweater in a hot and tropical country like Singapore? A recent
survey conducted has shown that shown that out of the 37 air conditioned public
places, 25 places had temperatures below 25 degree Celsius. Setting the air
condition at such a low temperature meant that more fossil fuels had to be burnt
resulting in more pollution as fossil fuel releases poisonous gas into the air when
burnt. Thus, a good suggestion would be to raise the temperature by just 1 degree
Celsius. By doing so, companies would be able to save up to 3% of their air
conditioning bills. In addition, there would be less energy consumed.

Nature

Nature is the world around us, except for human-made phenomena. As humans are
the only animal species that consciously, powerfully manipulates the environment, we
think of ourselves as exalted, as special. We acknowledge that in an objective view
we are merely one of many organisms, and that we are not able to survive outside of
our natural world of air, earth, water and life. But we tend to be poor leaders in the
"hierarchy" of animal life. Despite our greatness, too often we waste, we fight, we
breed heedlessly, and are too self-centered and short-sighted. I take note of the
increasing awareness of ecology, at least in Western culture, and am heartened. We
may still change our weapons of war into tools of peace, and our habits of
despoilation into nuturing. Earth is so large, that even if humans destroy ourselves,
plus most other life forms, there will still be nature. The soil, oceans, atmosphere and
weather would still interact with solar power to allow some life to exist. Earth cannot
be a barren place like the moon. Humans can, then, reduce our planetary paradise
into a hell of sorts, but cannot, I believe, destroy the planet itself. This thought, sober
and gloomy, is a modern one; in earlier ages it is unlikely that people contemplated
ourselves wiping-out most life on earth. I don't know why I brought it to the forefront
of my nature essay. It does offer a perspective. Nature's life forces, as well as its
winds, eruptions, quakes, avalanches, freezes, etc., is immensely powerful. I recall
being allowed to study revegetation on the freshly-erupted Mt. St. Helens. It was
more than 10 years ago, so my memory has retained only a few observations: life
was strongest near water sources, and the weediest plants were most successful in
revegetating the barren gray ash. Mosses tolerant of Seattle's freeway cracks grew
on the loose sand and ash. Fireweed, which thrives after forest fires, clear-cuts and
bombed sites, was abundant. If memory serves,...

Man - the Destructive Force of Nature

As Man progresses scientifically, he has also become more destructive. Examine
the statement with respect to events and happenings around you and giving sufficient
examples wherever necessary.

Man has, over the ages, been progressively moving towards a world and life of
destruction. What most people fail to realise is that this destruction is not only the
destruction of the world around us, but also a systematic destruction of the universe
inside ourselves. Man has been destroying trees, forests, the birds and the bees, and
on a completely different level, he has been destroying himself in terms of his mind,
body and soul.

If one questions the reasons behind mans almost instinctive destructive tendencies,
one realises that the answer is not so easy to come by. People often say that
material destruction is required for development and growth on an economic level.
Personally, I believe that greed is the root of such detrimental activities carried out by
humans. Greed is the vehicle of human destruction. We, in our eternal quest for more
and more material comforts and luxuries, have become blind to the harsh realities of
the world and what we are doing to it. We have grown selfish and think only about
acquiring, rather than giving or helping.

Man has been steadily moving up the ladder scientifically. However, instead of using
scientific assets wisely and in a beneficial way, we seem to be using our knowledge
and assets in the way that is possibly the most harmful to us and the environment
around us. We are cutting down forests, making holes in the ozone layer, misusing
our natural mineral deposits, polluting our soil and water and essentially damaging
our environment irreparably. What we fail to realise and acknowledge is that the
environment around us serves as crutches to prop us up and ensure our survival in
this world.

We use development and growth as an excuse to exploit our environment and to
explain our destructive behaviour....

GLOBAL WARMING ON OUR PLANET

Global warming is a very controversial issue happening in the world right now. Every
where it's happening all around us. Most people can not see the bigger picture, which
is the picture of destruction and havoc that global warming is causing to this planet.
Global warming, which is referred to the increase in the average temperature of the
Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation
is one of the biggest issues today. Most of the observed increase in globally
averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed
increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations via the greenhouse effect.
During the last 100 years the Earth's average near-surface air has had an increase of
.32 degrees Fahrenheit. Although some might come to believe that such slight
increase may not be harmful by much on account this slight increase is what all
around us is destroying and changing our planet which we have grown to care for, for
the worse.

Many individuals have argued both views of Global Warming (Pro Global Warming
and Con Global Warming), but yet this factor has still been unresolved. Some
scientists may say scenarios of rapid climate change are unwarranted or incapable of
being explained or is just a little hot air. Last fall, the Senate debated a bill that would
have created regulations to combat global warming. Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma
led the opposition, and went so far as to call global warming a hoax. He based that
statement, in part, on the work of John Christy, a professor and director of the Earth
System Science Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Christy is a
respected climatologist, but he's also a maverick who argues that global warming
isn't a problem worth worrying about. His major contribution has been to analyze
millions of measurements from weather satellites, looking for a global temperature
trend. He's found almost no sign of...

Recycling for the Future
According to Franklin Delano Roosevelt A nation that destroys its soils destroys
itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to
our people. Just about everyone knows our environment is in danger. One of the
most serious threats is the massive amount of waste we put into the air, water, and
ground every year. All across the world are thousands of places that have been
polluted by toxic waste, radioactive waste, and just plain garbage. It is imperative that
we are aware of all the things that we can do to help our environment by diminishing
the amount of trash and garbage that we produce each year. One of the main
reasons for recycling is to reduce the amount of garbage sent to landfills. Landfill
usage peaked in the 1980s, when Americans sent almost 150 million tons of garbage
to landfills each year. Today, America still generates more than 100 million tons of
trash into landfills annually. Every year, Americans use approximately 1 billion
shopping bags, creating 300,000 tons of landfill waste ("Waste and recycling,"). Even
though modern sanitary landfills are safer and less of a nuisance than the open
dumps of the past, no one likes having a landfill around. In heavily populated areas,
landfill space is scarce. Where space is plentiful, filling it with garbage is not a very
good solution to the problem. Today, recycling efforts in the United States divert 32
percent of waste away from landfills. That prevents more than 60 million tons of
garbage from ending up in landfills every year ("Waste and recycling,"). Recycling is
a simple concept: take something that is not useful anymore and make it into
something new instead of just throwing it away. It can be anything from recycling old
paper into new paper or making an old hubcap into a decorative birdbath. In reality,
recycling can get pretty complex. It interacts with our environment, politics, economy,
and even our own human behavior patterns...

Introduction

Many of us cannot but get envious at any only child around. Being the only child may
seem as the best thing in this world. Yes, only children are truly the most cared, loved
persons in the family. But this love and care sometimes demands some obliged
responsibility.

It is seen that in many families of our country that if they have an only child, they
start to dream a lot about them since their early age. Our only child will have to shine
the name of the family. My child will only choose that profession which I will tell to
choose. My son/daughter will have to marry the person whom I will think is perfect
for him/her. These are some common commands and expectations in families with
only child in our country. Not all the families are like this but there are many who put
such pressure on their child. Ever since an only child starts to understands the world
around, s/he realizes the pressure and expectations put upon her/him. Sometimes
this pressure leads them towards good. But todays generation are more independent
and a bit rebel in nature. The limited recreation of city children consists of watching
television, playing computer games or fast food joints. Moreover, these kids are sent
to school at a age or three when they hardly starts to communicate properly. Parents
are also working outside, so they cannot give proper time to their only child.
Moreover living and lifestyle expenses are so high that couples are unwilling to have
more than one children. Without any siblings, only children grow up as loners in most
of the cases.

In such situation, if parents put so much pressure on their only child and have a lot of
expectations, then it causes nothing but put an adverse effect on them. Later in life,
many only children feel frustrated, dissatisfied with their career and marriage and
even grow a negative feeling for their parents. Parents should be a bit reasonable
and understanding when it comes to rear up...

Very soon a very big and important part of my life will be over. I am leaving the
gymnasium. And the closer it gets the more thoughts and recollections come to my
mind. It is the period of my life, when I have to choose the future profession.
Choosing a career and getting a job are two of the most important things any person
does in his life. Before young people finish school all of them think that they will
choose a profession they want. But later all of them understand that choosing a
profession or a career is a very serious problem. So when young people leave
school, they face that problem. If pupils want to achieve their purpose, they should
use the opportunity for promotion in the early age. The young people have to know
that if they dont think about their future life earlier, it will be too difficult to think about
it later. It is an advantage to choose a future career while being at school because it
gives a goal in your studies and enables to choose a right, suitable course of study.
There are several factors that influence the decision of young people to make their
choice/ they concern material and spiritual aspects of the future profession. It is
generally believed that professions should be both prestigious and interesting.
Everybody wants to benefit from the social privileges provided by the profession. At
the same time other factors are important. Much depends on the inclinations and
interests of the person. Another important factor in social environment. The
profession of the parents often in this or that way influences the future profession of
their children. Today we have dynasties of physicians, historians, lawyers,
economists, pilots and military officers. It is impossible to forget about the material
aspect of the future profession. It indicates the level of the societys values. Today all
professions can be classified as prestigious or not prestigious. The problem of
prestige is subjective. All the professions are very useful....

How Do Movies or Television
Influence People's Behavior

How do movies or television influence people's behavior? Use reasons and specific
examples to support your answer Television and movies are the part of the strongest
network of all times. People changes the way they act and the way they feel in a
determinate situation after they watch television. Sometimes this change does not
help, but most of them it is a good way out. For example, while watching a movie you
become part of it. People use to identify themselves in a determinate situation when
they are watching a movie in a television. That is why sometimes they cry when the
situation is either difficult or romantic. Along with it people use to take the conclusion
of the movie as an advice for them to improve the way they live their life or as an
answer to questions of their everyday. Another example of how movies and television
can influence in your life shows up when we are talking about entertainment. The
entertainment is one of the strongest points when we are talking about movies and
television. There is a huge amount of people that organize their schedule around the
television just for entertainment, and sometimes, they even celebrate a birthday party
just watching a movie with their friends, a good way to have fun. In addition to the
previous argument, television and movies are a good way out for those stressful
days. Most of the hard-working men find in the television the only way out after work,
which helps a lot with their behavior because it gives them a time to relax before
those problems you can find in the house appears. Television and movies influence
in a person by many different ways, it can help you with advices and possible
answers to your daily life, as it can help to solve problems or as a stress killer, and
last but not less, it great as an entertainment in those boring days.

Are movies more than entertainment?

The first time I watched an episode of Sex on the City, I told myself that I wanted to
live in New York City and wear fancy clothes and fancy shoes like Carry Bradshaw
(Sarah Jessica Parker). I felt like a little girl wanted to be a princess all over again.
Personally this is what movies are all about, they open peoples mind to whole new
world where they can be whoever they want to be (whether they want to be a sexy
writer like me or a fighter like Bruce Lee). While watching a movie the viewers can
use their imagination to go to places they have never think of without living their
home or the movie theater to be more specific. Watching movies are one of the
favorite activities of people around the word. People have made them part of their
lives to the point where they think that movies are screen versions of their own lives.
Like any other legitimate form of popular culture, movies can introduce the viewer to
new emotional experiences that they would otherwise not be able to experience.
Movies can help people to learn how to deal with their emotions before they need to
deal with them in real life. A movie involving the death of a family member, for
example can help the viewers to think about it and to develop their own emotional
reactions so that when something as tragic happen to them, they will be more
prepare.

Titanic is about a 100-year-old woman who was named Rose DeWitt Bukator tells the
story to her granddaughter Lizzy Calvert on the Keldysh about her life set in April
10th 1912, on a ship called Titanic. The plot involves a love affair between a
penniless artist, Jack Dawson, and the fiance of a rich aristocrat, Rose DeWitt
Bukater. Who even though the both didnt have much in common when it came to
possessions. They were both humble people who truly fall in love with one another.
Basically the moral of the story seems to be that the rich people were stuck up and
greedy, while there was some stereotype in this movie when it came to possessions.
Back then people were either considered rich or poor. I think that movies like Titanic
having to do with past events documentaries teach us pretty well on the history on
that movie. For people who never heard or watched the movie they can get a good
outlook and educated if they never heard of it. This movie Precious has a lot to do
with values and the importance of a person who struggles from so much trying to
make whats best for her. Its about is a 16 year-old African American teen who lives
in with her dysfunctional mother. Her family is on welfare, and lives in a drug-infested
neighborhood. Precious is physical abuse by her mother, and sexual abuse by both
parents. Despite her low self confidence, we see some sort of hope that seems to
come from inside her. She ends up getting interested in this special school and shes
curios in seeing how it may help her take the risk to try it out. Precious wants to make
her life better, which is a big impact in her life. She makes it clear that she wants a
better life than she sees her mother having. Overall she tries to make something
positive come out of a lot of negative things she went through in her life. This shows
us that she has good values because wants to improve herself as an individual and
works hard on with what she has planned for her and her child. the...

Why Movies Are More Then Just
Entertainment

Movie are much more than just something we watch it is a story being told by the
writer for us to interpret, it can be inspiring or gloomy it all depends how we as
viewers see it. It can also be a way for some to live out an imaginary existence in and
conventional world. Just look at movies like tron, star gate or even the borne series it
helps people live out the life they desire. Movies are also a way for the media to
influence and open the minds of its viewers. It is much more then entertaining,
informing and educating, movies plays a big role in the way we perceive things.
Movies can be a way for people to tell their own stories or communicate a message
or get some point across with the type of movie they write. Like for example look at
star war some think it is just a sci- fi movie but it is much more it has a very deep
political undertone. Or Michael Moore movies like fairenhight 9-11 they were made to
inform us as viewers what is going on in the world, some might say it is a little bias
but to someone who really lives the story might say it is true. Movies have also
become a big part of our daily lives in which they can sometimes have quite an
influence on our behavior. They intrigue our minds which captivate us as viewers
they transcend us into another dimension. As we try to associate with the stories of
what we see we often find ourselves searching for similarities between these
characters and ourselves. Movies are much more powerful then we all believe they
help us face all kinds of social issues and personal one also. It teaches us life
lessons that later on will help us through our daily lives, and sometimes a movie can
make us feel emotions that we never thought we will. Movies are a way to disconnect
from our world and live someone elses. Everyone has a story to tell and movies are
the visualization of it. From the zoetrope in 1864 to silent movies in 1903 to the
movies of the 21st century, movies have gone through many changes in history.

The Evolution of Circus Industry

In the early 1980s the attractiveness of the circus industry seem to be saturated. The
industry structure was not stable, being in long-term decline by alternative various
type of entertainment, changes of the preference of customers, uprising concerns of
animal rights and diminishing clowns in value, which they are the critical elements
used by traditional players in the industry. It all brought in decreasing audience and
increasing costs by accelerating competition and changing environmental factors.
The traditional circus industries also had to compete with numerous competitors
through similar performance and non-differentiated performance players in
saturation.

The traditional circus business has faced the difficult situation with a steady
decreased audience and declining both revenue and profit. The limited to expand this
industry is according to the five forces analysis, even though the barrier to entry to
circus industry is high because of high capital requirement in performers, equipment,
workforce, etc. but, the industry suffering from the alternative form of entertainment
such as sports event, home industry, and play station. Also, rivalry among firms is
high; they have to compete with other entertainment businesses such as theatre,
opera, and Broadway. Moreover, the competition is not a price competition but it is
based on attracting customers so with the low products differentiation in typical circus
industry clown, animals, and performance lead to a strong buyer power. Thus, the
existing circus industry appeared unattractive

Cirque de Soleil very successfully entered to an unattractive circus industry by
reinvent the industry and creates a new market space. In this case, they did not
target the existing market such as children, but they target non-customers of the
industry; adults and corporate clients who pay for this entertainment experiences.
Also, they invest a lot in equipment in order to raise the venues from a typical circus
tent to...

the circus remembered
It was late February or early March and the circus was coming to our town. I was
excited, although I was only eight years old. We were not poor, but we were not living
elegantly either. I loved monkeys as a child. Thats one reason I wanted to go. Before
we got there, my mom and sister stopped to get gas and I was looking out of the
window of the car. It was an old rusty orange color. We got to the circus and there
was a little monkey on a leash with a man playing music. The monkey was so cute.
He was tiny and wore a red hat and red sweater. His master would play an accordion
and he would clap and dance. He took off his hat for people to put dimes in it. I would
often want to have that monkey for my pet. The circus tents were huge and circular in
shape. They cotton candy had there, man it smelled so yummy. I could not believe
my eyes when the announcer announced the elephants were next.

The announcer of the circus, a tall, skinny, strange looking man, with rainbow colored
clothes on, announced that the elephants were coming out. I was so excited to see
the elephants. They are huge animals with gray, tough, leathery skin. I was watching
them like I was up on stage with them. I have always loved animals, and my face was
happy and amazed at the same time. They would sit down on little stools. I could not
believe those huge animals would be so graceful. The lions are big cats and they are
next.

My mother always made sure that we got to go places. She would save up money for
months for us. I loved the circus and I am so glad that I got to go. All of the acts that
were there were great. I especially liked the little monkey. I enjoyed all of the animals
there too. The smell of the circus is like no other smell I have smelled before. The
clowns, they were funny too.

The clowns ran into each other and bumped their heads together. They were so
funny. They had red, and some had orange curly hair. They were riding around in
little cars. The...

It was during the school holidays last year. I was feeling bored and restless until one
day when I came across an advertisement in the papers about a circus coming to my
town. Naturally, I became curious and excited as I had never been to a circus before
and looked forward to seeing a show that night. We arrived at the circus grounds
early to buy our tickets. I started exploring but, when I heard the growling of tigers
and lions, I felt scared and ran back to my parents. Soon we were seated and the
show was about to begin. The first item was a comical one performed by monkeys
dressed in coloured suits and little hats. They rode on horse-back round the ring. I
really laughed at such a funny sight for they looked like tiny men. Next, there entered
two pretty girls with two men on trapeze. They kept the spectators spellbound with
their skillful stunts, swinging and exchanging places in the air to the accompaniment
of soothing music. It was thrilling to watch them. Then clowns in baggy costumes and
funny, painted faces made their appearance. Suddenly, as one clown cried, I saw a
spray of water squirting out from his eyes and he made everyone laugh with his
antics, especially when he went tumbling down and his red nose shone like a light.
There were many other interesting items. I felt uneasy when the lions performed their
act and heaved a sigh of relief when they were finally locked up again in their cage.
We went home happily after the show and I felt that the circus is a good form of
entertainment.
Family Values

When raising a child one is

taught values by their families

that they feel are important for

their child to have. I believe

that family values consist of

certain actions and qualities

that are important to a family

to uphold. Values that are

important in my family are

honesty, trust and to have

respect for others. Each of

these values is equally

important in my family. They

played a big role into making me

the person I am now.

Growing up in my family taught

me that honesty is the best

policy. When I would get into

trouble as a child I would often

try to lie to my mom thinking

that would save me from being

punished. I soon learned that

lying would only get me into

more trouble than I was already.

Honesty has given me the

reputation of being a good

friend. One can always rely on

me to let them know what they

are doing or how something looks

on them. In return for my

honesty I have received respect

from my family and friends.

Respect is an important value to

be taught when growing up.

Through the years I have learned

that in order to learn anything

you must have respect for

others. I have learned many

valuable lessons from listening

to my grandmother. She has told

me many of her experiences,

which has made me a better

person. Having respect for other

people has allowed me to be more

open-minded and see qualities in

people that most would not. I

have always listened to what my

friends and family has to say.

That doesn't always mean that I

agree with them, but it is their

opinion, so I respect it. In

return I receive respect from

them. As people begin to respect

me more their trust in me also

grows.

Trust is a value that was very

hard for me to learn. I was

always afraid that someone was

going to hurt me one way or

another. My mother was always

Growing up in a close family can make you the person who you are right now. When
youre young you may not notice but your family may be influencing the type of
person you will become in life. Growing up with my family has influenced me in
significant ways, one, being a great listener, two, being respectful towards all people,
and three, being a dependable individual.

Growing up in my family Ive noticed that we are all great listeners. I remember being
young and my mother and father would always be stern about me paying attention
and listening to everything they said to me, and if I were to forget what they told me,
their automatic response would be that I was not a good listener. In my mind I would
always strive to become a better listener every day so I could prove my parents
wrong someday that I wasnt a good listener. As I grew older my listening skills just
got better and better over time, and it became almost second nature to me. Now,
every time someone tells me something my focus goes directly to that person and I
listen to every word that comes out of their mouth, thanks to my parents.

Becoming a great listener is not the only effect my family has influenced me to be,
but a respectful individual as well. Whether it be my grandmother, mother, aunt, or
uncle, all have taught me, in one way or another, to be respectful of people at all
times. To be respectful in my family meant to be courteous and thoughtful of every
individual you met. If I were ever forgot to say thank you, your welcome, excuse me,
welcome, etc. I would always get a nudge on my shoulder reminding me to do so.
Thanks to my family members now I never forget to say thank you, excuse me, etc...
. And now Im the one nudging my younger sister or my cousins on their shoulder to
hopefully pass it on when they get older.

Amongst being a great listener and a respectful person, dependability is one value
my family influences in one another at all times. Being dependable is one great...

(1)Family is very important for everyone. No other people than our parents can really
show us love and affection. They will do anything to make us happy and we love and
respect them to thank them for all the things they did and are still doing for us. When
we have problems, we dont just give up because we know that we have our family
with us. They give us strength and tell us that we can surpass anything. There may
be times when we misunderstood each other, but still, the love is there because we
are family. But what if a family is broken? In this day and age, lots of children come
from broken families. What will happen to them? My topic is about the causes and
effects of broken families. (2) There are cases where children coming from broken
families make wrong decisions. Some do not have better life ahead of them because
of this. Now what could be the causes and how can we prevent the breaking up of
families? (3)

Hypothesis
From what I observed, most of the not-so-good people came from broken families.
So I thought the cause of their state is the family. Without the proper guidance and
love and care from the ones they loved, they became not-so-good persons. The
situation filled their hearts and minds with hatred. They treat others improperly
because of their experiences. They were not given enough attention from their
parents so they seek it from other people. They wanted attention so they do unlikely
things. There are lots of things that may cause broken families. Sub-thesis
statements

1. Common causes of broken families
2.1 Wrong choice in marriage - how will know you if married the wrong spouse?
When both partners are not in good terms most of the time, and when one partner
always regrets marrying the other partner. These are signs of choosing the wrong
person. Disagreement is the only language they understand. They could be likening
to two captains in the same boat heading to different destination. In this kind of
situation, hatred,...

With increasing emphasis on early child development, play is without a doubt
endangered in today's society. Academic development as we know is thought of as
the key to success for a child, and the earlier the child is push to start, the more
successful he will become. While this idea has completely rendered academia as the
ideal way for a child to succeed, it completely undermined the importance and
benefits of play. Play helps build characters, and by participating in play children are
allowed the opportunity to develop their personality and a positive sense of self. This
ultimately helps them realize their potential and allow the child to also succeed later
on in life. Play is an essential in a child's life, and play is equally as important as
academic in a child's life, but what is play? The following are real life situations where
play is involved, and through this we will be able to pinpoint the importance of play
and define the definition of play as applied in real life situations.

Everyday on my way to drop off my sibling at his school I noticed the many activities
the kids, age range from 5 to 10, are participating in. It seems that before stepping
into a classroom and before setting down to start on their academic schedule the kids
are allowed thirty minutes of free play. While observing these children in play, I
noticed many of these children are very energetic, be it playing on the swing or taking
part in a basketball game, these children have an immense amount of energy and no
child are sitting down, not doing anything, and of course everyone is laughing and
having fun. This leads me to our first definition of play that is play is fun and
absorbing. The children were so involved in play that they had lost track of time, as I
recalled I even heard someone murmured "Aww its time to go in already". Because
this type of play takes place from the very start of the day, we can relate this play to
our oldest theory of play of "Surplus Energy Theory."...

All children need to play it is an integral part of learning and coping with the realities
of everyday life. While children need physical activity to stay healthy and fit they also
need unstructured, child centered, imaginative play that they control. Many parents
today enroll their children in as many structured activities as possible everything from
art classes to soccer. While structured activities have their time and place all children
in the early years of life need unstructured play in order to learn and ready
themselves for school and life. Play is crucial to every aspect of a childs
development; it is critical for the development of the whole child. Emotional
development comes as children learn to conquer fears, and accept accomplishment
and defeat. Physical development is developed as children run, balance, and use
fine motor skills. Cognitive development is found in every activity that a child pursues
if one only looks. Finally social development is enmeshed in all play as children learn
to cooperate, problem solve, and understand how others feel. Play helps to develop
the whole child mind, body and soul.

Emotional development includes dealing with and working through fears, anxieties
and desires. Play is how children learn and cope with the realities around them. An
article published in, Redbook on the values of play tells the following story, the
other day when a 3-year-old girl came over to our house and began playing with one
of my son's plastic sharks. She was making the shark eat plastic insects and fake fish
then spit them out. Then she would make the shark "sleep" on its back. She did
this over and over, then finally walked over to her mom and said, "The shark isn't
sleeping. The shark died. "Her grandmother just died," the mom whispered to me.
"And before she died, Grandma couldn't eat...

Whywhy Children Should Play or

Why Children Should Play School or Organized Sport

Research has shown that participation in outside of school sports and or other
organized sports is associated with lower dropout rates, reduced problem behaviors,
and increased school performance. Children build interpersonal skills, positive assets
needed to become active and productive young adults. Studies suggest that children
who are involved with after school sports or organized sports have higher self
esteem, lower depression rates and have better opportunities for optimal growth and
development. (Howie, 2009) Children should play school sports or organized sports,
because sports improve childrens self esteem, sports teach children skills that they
can use to become leaders, and sports give children the exercise they need to stay
healthy.

Although, school sports or organized sports help children with their self esteem,
teach children to be team players and give children the exercise to stay healthy there
are cons to playing sports. School sports or organized sports are commitments that a
child needs to make. When there is a child that is going to play sports, the family also
needs to be a part of the team as well. Playing sports is time consuming and takes a
lot of time from be able to do other things outside of sports. It is important that the
child and parents know the length of the season, the practice schedule and game
schedule to make sure that there is time for family time too. It is also important that
when a child has decided to play a sport that the entire family is willing to be a part of
the team as well.

School sports and or organized sports are wonderful to help increase self esteem in
children. When children have a high level of self esteem they reduce the chances of
depression and anxiety. Children that play school sports or organized sports have a
high level of self esteem and do well in school; it helps children to become problem
solvers and gives children...

In 2003, three college students from California created a documentary on the
exploitation of children in Uganda as child soldiers. The war in which these innocent
children's hands are forced into has been called, "the most neglected humanitarian
emergency in the world today" (Invisible Children). For the past 21 years, the Lord's
Resistance Army (LRA) and the Ugandan government have waged a war leaving
nearly two million innocent civilians caught in the middle. The Ugandan government
is not protecting their citizens from this rebel militia which is murdering mothers and
either killing or abducting their children. The children who are kidnapped, generally
males, are being brainwashed, corrupted, and trained to work as soldiers in a war in
which they do not belong.

The picture of the young boy holding the gun is a representation of what life is like in
Uganda. He epitomizes the age of the victims who are kidnapped. The rebel forces
try to capture children between the ages of 8-14 because they are big enough to
carry a gun but small enough to sneak into schools and steal more children. They are
also at the age where they are the most moldable to their environment. These
children are brainwashed, and taught an attitude of total disregard for any human life.
They are taught to kill anyone who is in opposition to the rebel forces including
fathers, mothers, and children. These kids are taken from their homes and schools
and immediately desensitized through the indoctrination of other soldiers their age.
Any child who opposes these forces is brutally killed in front of their peers to instill
fear in them so they do not try to run away from the rebel militia. They would rather
stay in the rebel ranks than suffer the fate of those who have opposed the rebels
before.

These children's minds are so brainwashed they know nothing other than war and
violence. A mother talked about how children who are abducted do not go to school
and are force-fed irrational views. If...

Play Therapy

Play therapy is what it sounds like, a tool that provides therapy through play. What
counseling and psychotherapy aim to do for adults, play therapy aims to do for
children. Play therapy encourages the expression of a childs feelings, experiences,
and cognitive functioning. It is seen as being able to be easier for young children
ages 2-11 to unleash their feelings. In adults it is harder to use this therapy though.
Play therapy is often used as a tool of diagnosis. Children will engage in "play
behavior" in order to work out their anxieties. This is why play therapy is so useful in
children. This therapy has been around for much longer than most may think. It can
be traced back as far as Plato. He was reported to say about play therapy "you can
discover more in an hour of play then you can in a year of conversation". In modern
time it was who else but someone named Freud who would be one of the first
recorded cases in modern time using this therapy. Freud was known to apply
psychotherapy to his own children. This then lead to his daughter becoming a
psychotherapist. She however dealt more with just children then all ages. She in
1927 was a counselor in a school creating healthy development in children with
mental disabilities. Freud identified her theories of play as a repetition of symbolic
games being the "ego's" attempt to repeat actively a traumatic event, which had been
experienced before. This allows the child to get passed the event. From this an
analysis can be developed which used play to interpret the child's unconscious
motivation. The two people who were the front runners for this development are who
we have talked about (Anna Freud) also Melanie Klein from their work with neurotic
children. Anna Freud looked for the unconscious motivation behind imaginative play,
drawings and paintings, dreams, daydreams, and all the little games that children
play. She emphasizes the importance of the relationship...
