Dosage

Special Precautions
Persistent or chronic cough which occurs
w/ smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis,

20% Soybean oil 200 g, egg phospholipids 12 g, anhydrous glycerol 22 g. Energy:
2,000 kCal
Indications
Intralipid 10% Severe protein depletion. Intralipid 20% Nutritional disorders or
disturbances of nitrogen balance, burns, prolonged unconsciousness, impaired
renal functions.
Dosage
Adult Max: 3 g triglycerides (TG)/kg body wt/day. Infusion rate: 500 mL in 5
hr. Neonate & infant 0.5-4 g TG/kg/day. Infusion rate: 0.17 g TG/kg/hr. Premature & low birth wt
neonate Initially 0.5-1 g/kg/day up to 2 g/kg/day infused continuously over 24 hr.
May be increased to 4 g/kg/day w/ close monitoring of serum TG conc, liver test
& O
2
saturation.
Contraindications Acute shock, severe disturbances in lipid metabolism eg pathologic hyperlipemia.
Special Precautions
Impaired lipid metabolism as in renal insufficiency, uncompensated DM,
pancreatitis, hepatic impairment, hypothyroidism (if hypertriglyceridemic), sepsis.
Monitor serum TG. Known allergy to soy protein. Neonates & premature w/
hyperbilirubinemia & suspected pulmonary HTN. Monitor especially on long-
term therapy, platelet count, liver test & serum TG.
Adverse Drug
Reactions
Increased body temp; hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylactic reaction, skin rash,
urticaria), resp symptoms (eg tachypnea), circulatory effects (eg HTN or
hypotension); hemolysis, reticulocytosis, abdominal pain, headache, tiredness,
priapism; thrombocytopenia (prolonged use in infants); transient increase in liver
tests (prolonged IV nutrition).
