Predefined ANSYS nCode DesignLife Processes
Seven ANSYS nCode DesignLife processes are predefined as WB
analysis systems
Stress-Life (SN) uses time based FE stresses
constant amplitude loading
time step loading
time series loading
Strain-Life (EN) uses time based FE strains

Vibration uses frequency based FE stresses
requires add-on license

Each glyph has an unique set of properties that control its behavior
to access properties > RMB on Glyph > select Properties
similar to Details Window in ANSYS Mechanical

Glyph properties not accessible under the Properties Tab can be
accessed using Advanced Edit
Analysis Engine > RMB > Advanced Edit

Data and Processes
Processes and data are separate items

Processes include glyphs, pipes, and properties
do not contain data
can be saved as a .flo file
seven predefined processes are .flo files

Data flows through the process
time series, histograms, FE results, etc.

DesignLife database file (.fdb file) contains process and data
saved and archived with WB project

can also read MSC.NASTRAN, ABAQUS, IDEAS, and LS-Dyna results files

Material Mapping
Material mapping links analysis engine to material library
Analysis Engine > RMB > Edit Material Mapping

DesignLife material library is integrated into Engineering Data
material information is automatically transferred to DesignLife
does not require any user action

Load Mapping
Load mapping converts FE results into stress/strain histories for use
in fatigue calculations
FE analysis provides results for distinct sets of loads
load mapping determines how the stresses/strains vary
fatigue life is controlled by cyclic stresses

Constant Amplitude, Time Series, and Time Step are common load
mappings used with both stress-life and strain-life fatigue
stresses/strains are assumed to cycle between minimum maximum values
time series loading
stress/strains are paired with time series loading channels to generate
stress/strain histories
time step loading
FE stresses/strains are used directly

is automatically defined
