SPORTS ROLE MODELS AND THEIR IMPACT ON PARTICIPATION AND SUCCESS IN SPORTS
OF SELECTED VARSITY ATHLETES IN CAVITE STATE UNIVERSITY
Sporting role models are important to young people and can be influential in their behavior and values. There is a common perception that sports people are viewed as role models and that they have a correspondingly positive impact upon individuals and the broader community in general. This perception has resulted in a number of programs being instituted where prominent and successful sports people have been promoted to the community as role models in order to influence sports participation rates. Further, the proposed link between sporting success and health has been used to justify engaging successful sports people to disseminate "healthy" messages to the community.
Specifically, this will answer the following research questions:
1. Who are the sports role models of varsity athletes in CvSU grouped according to: 1.1 Family members, 1.2 Athletes/celebrities, and 1.3 Teachers?
2. How do sports role models influence the participation of varsity athletes in sports? 3. How do sports role models influence the success of varsity athletes in sports? 4.

ATTITUDES AND LEVEL OF ACCEPTANCE OF COACHES IN VARSITY SPORTS TOWARD LESBIANS AND GAY MEN IN CAVITE STATE UNIVERSITY
Regine D. Uson
INTRODUCTION
The atmosphere of college athletics has been depicted as hostile, unwelcoming, and homophobic toward lesbians and gay men. According to Jacobson (2002), within the domain of the university, the athletic department has been described as the most homophobic place on campus (p. A33). Little research has investigated the attitudes of coaches toward lesbians and gay men (Roper & Halloran, 2007). No published literature has been found, which investigates attitude differences of varsity coaches toward lesbians and gay men participating in collegiate sports. Overall, the current study is essential for three reasons. First, lesbians and gay men are members of an at-risk group that endures tremendous prejudices based on sexual orientation. The prejudice and discrimination that lesbians and gay men face vary, and some forms of discrimination are even legal. Second, little research has focused on attitudes and acceptance toward lesbians and gay men in the context of sport. More specifically, the body of literature regarding the attitudes of coaches in collegiate sports toward lesbians and gay men is scarce. It has been suggested that, within the context of sport, negative attitudes toward lesbians and gay men are openly expressed (Wolf-Wendel, Toma, & Morphew, 2001) and these attitudes are believed to be widespread and accepted.
Statement of the Problem In general, this study will be conducted to examine the attitudes and level of acceptance of coaches in varsity sports toward lesbians and gay men in Cavite State University. Specifically, this will answer the following research questions:
1. What is the profile of the coaches of collegiate sports in CvSU in terms of gender, level of education and sport type coached? 2. What are the attitudes and level of acceptance of the coaches of varsity sports in CvSU toward lesbians and gay men? 3. Is there a significant difference in the attitudes and level of acceptance toward lesbians and gay men between women and men coaches of collegiate sports in CvSU? 4. Is there a significant difference in the attitudes and level of acceptance toward lesbians and gay men of coaches of collegiate sports in CvSU when grouped according to level of education? 5. Is there a significant difference in the attitudes and level of acceptance toward lesbians and gay men between coaches of team sports and individual/dual sports?
