Introduction
Among the Hidden is a stor about a totalitarian go%ernment! &amilies are onl
allo'ed to ha%e t'o children! An more than t'o children 'ould be (ut to death!
)he *o(ulation *olice loo# for these t(es of families! )his is all due to
o%ercro'ding+ hunger+ and homeless (eo(le! Some families are %er 'ealth and
get a'a 'ith things more easil! ,ther families are %er (oor and do not get
a'a 'ith anthing! &ood is rationed and -un# food is banned! &armers are told
'hat the can and can not (roduce and ho' much! Life is hard enough+ for some!
What 'ould life be li#e to ha%e to hide from the 'orld! .ot being allo'ed to go to
school+ the store+ or e%en outside to (la/ What 'ould it be li#e to onl #no' our
immediate famil and no one else/

The Task
0ou are going to li%e life+ for a'hile+ as a 1shado' child2! 0ou 'ill each be assigned
di3erent roles! Some of ou 'ill be 'ealth and some of ou 'ill be less fortunate!
You will be given an identity not to be shared with your classmates. Some
of ou 'ill li%e in an urban areas+ a suburban areas+ or rural areas! 0ou 'ill
research and (resent facts about our ne' location! 0ou 'ill communicate 'ith
other shado' children as if ou 'ere a 1shado' child2! 0ou 'ill also (lan for a rall
in Washington D!4! Lastl+ in grou(s of four to 5%e+ ou 'ill come together to
create a mo%ie trailer for Among the Hidden as 'ell as (osters (romoting our

7tudents should learn ho totalitarian societies are different from their on. Proper grammar< spelling<
and creativity is important to this We#3uest. 7tudents should kno ho to use proper grammar<
spelling< and organi>ation hen communicating ith others. 7tudents learn a#out other locations and
ho other people live. 7tudents also ork together for a commonality #eteen them. Creativity in
