Bid the Good and forbid the evil (Amr bil maroof wa nahi un al

munkir)

The meaning of Amr is to give the order of something to do and the meaning of Nahi is to
give order for stopping something. The meaning of Maroof is to recognizable. In Islam its
meaning is deeds which are known as good in whole society. At other side the meaning of
Munkir is that actions which is not according to the human nature and human nature does not
understand it good. In simple words we can say that the meaning of Amr bil maroof is to give
order for good deeds and to give order for stopping the evil actions.

Duty of the Muslim Ummah

Islam is a religion that covers all aspects of life. Islam tries to create harmony and peace
between the societies. Amr bil maroof wa nahi al an munkir is a religious duty of all Muslim
Ummah. The reason behind this is till the Day of Judgment no prophet will come. Hazrat
Muhammad is the last prophet of Allah. We are the last Ummah. Now it is the duty of Umat E
Muslimmah to tell others about the right path, to give them guidance and to forward the Islamic
teachings. Allah says in Quran that:-

You are the best of communities that has been raised up for mankind: You enjoin the good,
forbid the evil, and believe in Allah.178 Had the people of the Book believed, surely, it would
have been better for them. Of them some are believers, while the great majorities are perverted
transgressors. ( Al Imran:- 110)

At other place it is said in Quran that:-

Thus We have appointed you a justly balanced nation that you might be a witnesses to the
people and the Prophet a witness to you. And We did not appoint the qiblah which you were
observing but to distinguish between him who follows the Messenger and him who turns on
his heels; although, this was a hard thing indeed save for those whom Allah guided. And
Allah was not such as to allow your faith go wasted. Truly Allah is Most Kind, Most
Merciful.( Al Baqra:- 143))

The dignity of our Ummah is in to bid for good and forbid for evil. If we do not fulfill this duty
then we will lost our dignity and we will be answer able in front of God at the day of judgment.

The duty of Islamic state: - It is the duty of the leaders of an Islamic state to spread the
good and forbid the evil. In Quran E Pak Allah Says that:-

These are those people if we make them leaders then offer Salat, pay Zakat, bid for good and
forbid for evil

Like this it is the duty of the Islamic state when they become rulers they spread the goodness by
using their all resources. They wipe out the evil from the Islamic state.

Satan always tries to regard the man by using his tricks. That is why it is important the there
should be continuous process of remembering the real situation.

The duty of the media of Islamic:-

For the media of Islamic state it is important that it tries to spread the good and stop the evil.
Its the duty of the media to make people able to recognize the bad and evil.

Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) Said that :-

If you have strength to forbid the evil with power then do this, If he dont have
this strength then forbid it with tongue, if you dont have this strength then say it
bad in hearth and its the lower level of Imaan

You should try at your level best to preach the Islam. If a person cannot come toward the right
path because the Muslim did not tell him then its the responsibility of the Muslims.

Levels for Nahi and Munkir:-

One should not force the person to come toward Islam. He should tell in detail about the
Islam now its the will of that person that he accepts Islam or not.
The person who is preaching should know about Islam completely.
You should tell about good and evil in soft speech.
In your heart the spirit of spreading the good should be there.
About which you are telling you yourself should be follower of this. By indirect action
you can teach about goodness.
If someone does not understand then you should talk to him.
By using direct action you can you spread the goodness. This condition applies on those
who have authority.

May Allah fist give us power to understand about good and evil and then give us strength to bid
the evil and forbid the evil. (Amen)
