By Jessica Howard
Ash Whittle celebrated his
200th senior club game on
Saturday in the Reserves,
contributing one goal to Bacchus Marshs 42-point win
over Darley, played at Maddingley Park.
Whittle commenced his
playing career with the Bacchus Marsh Football Club
in 1998 as a junior, and has
since been a regular player
years up forward.
Club President, Pat Mullen
said after numerous injuries,
200 games is a real tribute to
Whittles character.
After the number of games
he has missed through injury, and still being able to
make it to 200, you can really see Ashs perseverance
within the game, he said.
Whittle said the best thing

reserve plans
THE Bacchus Marsh West
Golf Club stands to lose at
least two holes and its clubhouse if preliminary plans
by Moorabool Shire Council
are given the go ahead.
The plans detail two new
recreational ovals and a new
shared-use clubhouse where
holes 2, 3, 15 and 16 are located on the corner of McCormack and Bacchus Marsh
Balliang roads. If the plans
go ahead, two of the holes
will be shortened and another two will be relocated
south to the Racecourse

club course.
The new clubhouse is expected to be shared with
other sporting clubs.

would be to end up with

but it might not be viable,
Cr Edwards said.

Senior playing coach for

The ex-North Melbourne

Richardson said the transition from being a player at a

overall an enjoyable experience. Its been a really big
learning curve for me, he
said.
I really enjoyed learning
the ins and outs of footy at

a great deal at that level
and I feel like I was one of

things pretty quick and understood why we did things
a certain way.
There has been a lot more
to learn than I originally
thought. Out on the field

Dear Editor,
I wish to comment regarding the front page
article, Gold Rush in the
Moorabool News 15/7/14.
It is admirable that MEG
member Mrs Rose De La
Cruz has sprung to the
defence of those who live
in the communities of
Mt Egerton, Gordon and
surrounds. I had scant
knowledge of the impact
a gold mine exploration
would have on the area
where I also live until I accessed the website steadfastminingservices.com.
It is obvious the landscape
will be affected.
To quote Mrs De La
Cruzs words it is also
home to many people
who have chosen to live
here for its beauty, rural
landscapes, QUIET environment and high quality
of life in general.
These points are exactly
the same as I have put forward when I have questioned the wisdom of the
then State Labor Government granting a permit
for the building of the
Moorabool Wind Energy
Facility so close to the
townships of Ballan and
Mt Egerton and too close
to the dwellings of the
rural land holders living
adjacent to the turbines.
I remember very well
that in June 2010 at a
panel hearing in connection with the now approved Moorabool Wind
Energy Facility, Mrs De
La Cruz
passionately
pleaded the case for the
granting of a permit to
build the wind farm. She
completely disregarded
any objections from local residents protesting
for various reasons, one
of them being the impact
on the visual amenity, another being unacceptable
noise and shadow flicker.
She praised the concept
of wind power and described the turbines as
majestic. Beauty is in
the eye of the beholder
and if one is not going to
be impacted on by their
presence maybe they are
attractive to some people.
All this is history now
but it is interesting to see
that she is representing
herself as being an advocate for the locals whom
she ignored four years
ago.
If MEG had endeavoured to look at both sides

options for more cyclists on

Walking and cycling are
not a good mix for our
most vulnerable walkers.
In a survey of 1128 seniors, 39 per cent said bikes
on shared paths were a
constraint to their walking. A Vision Australia
study of walkers with vision impairment found 24
per cent of collisions and
near collisions were with
cyclists.
Cyclists do not necessarily slow down when
they share a path with pedestrians. A NSW study
found that the average
speed of cyclists on footpaths was 21 km/h, the
same speed as on local
roads.
Cycling advocates want
to increase the age for
footpath cycling to 16
from the current 12 years.
Letting teenagers ride
on footpaths might make
some parents feel better,
but it wont make their
kids safer. International
studies show that cyclists
have a 1.8 to 16 times
higher risk of injury on
footpaths than on roads.
From a motorist perspective, imagine a 15 year old
Dear Editor,
Your columnist (Environmental Opinion MN 1

of global warming and
politics. He ignores the
majority view of Australians that recently elected a

suite of actions whilst focusing on re-establishing
our national balance sheet

for more jobs, improved
standard of living, fixed
infrastructure blockages
and removing unnecessary red and green tape
from our lives.
Probably our government is paying attention

Round 13 v Learmonth
FOOTBALL
Seniors
The Senior team came out
expecting a tough contest
against Learmonth and it
was exactly that. Learmonth
was tough and fast at the ball
all day. When Gordon were
able to get their running
game going they played well
but Learmonth were always
ready to attack. Jaymes Gorman contributed well as he
was able to score valuable
goals. Mick Nolan was efficient at getting in and under the ball, allowing the
forwards to kick through the
big sticks. The team now sits
fifth on the ladder, with a finals berth imminent.
Best - Gerard Clifford, Ash
Munari, Jason Rae, Mick Nolan, Matt Raworth and Mark
Gunnell.
Reserves - A hard fought
win by 10 points in boggy
conditions. A good team
effort with Adam Toohey
kicking four goals and Gary
Busuttil kicking three.

FOOTBALL
The Under 10 teams were
the first to hit the field as per
normal. The teams put in
great games of kicking and
marking. Improvement was
shown by both teams this
week, all players are developing their game sense and
ball skills.
Awards - C. Benton, J. Dellar, J. Huxtable.
After starting slowly in the
first half, the U12 Reserves
were on fire as the game progressed. Keeping their opponents to one scoring shot
the team were relentless in
their attack on the ball.
Bacchus Marsh 4.7.31 def
East Ballarat 0.0.1.
Best - C. Clayton, F. Burns, J.
Pennisi, O. Cukavac, L. Marbus, S. Meisen.
The U12 Senior footballers were outplayed in chilly
conditions.
Bacchus Marsh 2.2.14 lost
East Ballarat 6.7.43.
Best - M. Cousins, H. Garner, M. Winch, J. Parente, L.
Garner, Z. Lehurey.

Best - J. Pawlowicz, A. Bettio, H. Proctor, M. Bayly, T.
Sutherland, M. Martin.

the U14 Senior footballers
kicked away in the second
term. Accurate kicking in
front of goal was the order of
the day for the Cobras, who
did not score a minor score
until late in the third term.
Bacchus Marsh 11.4.17 def
East Ballarat 2.1.13.
Best - R, Bishop, J. Hehir, J.

A fantastic team effort saw
an extremely tight tussle in
the U11 netball game this
week. All players worked
hard and are showing fantastic improvement.
Bacchus Marsh 8 lost East
Ballarat 10.
Award - E. Martin, E. Lalor
and L. Taylor.
The U13 Reserve netballers
were dominating. The girls
did not let up on their opponents and came out with a
comprehensive victory.
Bacchus Marsh 17 def East
Ballarat 8.
Awards - C. Martin, S. Hine,
M. Harrington.

really hard, demonstrating
great skill and game sense,
to come away with the win.
Bacchus Marsh 19 def East
Ballarat 9.
Awards - C. Dickinson, M. Baselmans, M.
Hunter-Ryder.
Once again the U15 reserve
netballers were not up to the
challenge against a strong
East Ballarat outfit. Some
messy passes let the team
down, but great defence by
the girls helped keep the
score respectable.
Bacchus Marsh 12 lost East
Ballarat 30.
Awards - M. Tyrell, E. Robinson, J. Hare.
A fantastic defensive game
by the U15 Senior netballers
made it hard for East Ballarat
to score. It was a tough tight
game and a great team win.
Bacchus Marsh 24 def East
Ballarat 21.
Awards - M. West, M.
White, K. Tangey.
The U17 Reserves game
was an evenly matched one,
with the only difference being the third quarter. The
girls showed that they can
match it with the top teams
on the ladder.
Bacchus Marsh 25 lost East
Ballarat 32.
Awards - O. Piggott (BOC),
E. Stuhldreier, B. Cottam, Z.
LeHurey.
The U17 Senior netballers were competitive to
half time, in a great game
to watch. The Marsh girls
showed some very good passages of play, unfortunately
they need to be more consistent against the stronger
teams.
Bacchus Marsh 27 lost East
Ballarat 42.
Awards - B. Pawlowicz
(BOC), M. Mayne, C. Homewood, E. Bettio.
