WHAT AM I?

Ive a shadow for a playmate

And hes never twice the same;
First hes short, and then he is tall,
Then he isnt there anymore.

When the sun is here, its lunch time,
Hes as small as he can be,
Slippy slidey, see me glide,
Slippy slidey, by my side.

As the sun sinks lower and lower,
Like a giant, he grows tall.
Buddy Longlegs, when I run,
Buddy Longlegs, so much fun!

But I think hes scared of the darkness,
And I think hes scared of the rain,
For he disappears at night;
When it rains, hes not in sight.

Yet as soon as we turn the lights on,
Or when sunshine breaks through the clouds,
Quickly back to me he steals,
Tagging closely at my heels.
What am I?
A shadow.

Red Riding Hood
(Original Creation to go hand-in-hand with Year 4 Language Arts)

Lets sing!
Red Riding Hood walks in the jungle,
Red Riding Hood walks near the hills,
Red Riding Hood walks in the jungle,
To visit her Grandma whos sick.

Grandma, Grandma.
Please get well soon, Grandma, Grandma.
Grandma, Grandma,
Please get well soon, Grandma.

Big Bad Wolf sneaks in the jungle,
Big Bad Wolf sneaks near the trees,
Big Bad Wolf sneaks in the jungle,
To find Red Riding Hood.

Beware! Oh, Beware!
The wolf would eat dear Grandma, Grandma,
Beware! Oh Beware!
The wolf would eat dear Grandma.

Editorial Note

This compilation of poem is compiled to fulfil the requirements of the
standard-based English Language Curriculum for our primary schools.
These poems and nursery rhymes are mainly created by our own trainee
teachers from the class of PISMP .09 of 2012 intake from IPG KPI. Our
coordinator, Madam Dalilah bt. Zainal Abidin, compiled these as for use in
or during our teaching and learning sessions in the context of Language
Arts in the classroom. Thus, it will be easy for us to have authentic material
that is originally created with the Malaysian primary classrooms in mind.

Poems in this compilation are structured mostly from simple to
difficult and allows us to choose concepts and skills as our pupils become
ready for them. Most of these poems and nursery rhymes can be used to
pre-teach structure and introduce concepts in understanding the concept of
poem. This collection consists mainly of short rhyming poems. Many
techniques can be used with this poem to inspire them to be creative. It has
been shown that the most effective way of introducing poetry is to ensure
the pupils understand what they read. These poems are therefore in
language that is simple and their themes are age-appropriate.

Conclusively, poems can promote literacy, motivates social
interaction, fosters emotional resilience and helps children know
themselves. With these poems and nursery rhymes, we can cross
boundaries that little else can and opens venues for Language Art classes
and hones Listening and Speaking skills.
