CALL FOR SCHOLARLY ESSAYS AND CREATIVE WORKS FOR Label Me Latina/o
Co-Directors Michele Shaul y Kathryn Quinn-Snchez announce a special edition of Label Me Latina/o edited by Paul Worley and Leopoldo Pea for summer 2015
US-based discourses on Latin American immigration tend to privilege national narratives, presenting the public with a homogenous image of a population that is, in fact, incredibly diverse. Due to so-called free- trade agreements and violence stemming from the War on Drugs, beginning in the 1990s immigration to the US has come primarily from those communities most impacted by these transnational phenomena. In many cases, these are indigenous communities. With the intention of reconfiguring the cultural, linguistic, and racial connotations of latino, for this special edition of Label Me Latina/o we are requesting academic works focused on the topic of indigenous immigration to the US, as well as artistic and/or creative pieces by indigenous immigrants that draw on their experiences of being indigenous in the US and/or on the impact that immigration has had on their communities of origin. Pieces can be submitted in English, Spanish, or an indigenous language (with a translation in English or Spanish).
Please direct submissions and questions about the topic to the co-editors Paul Worley worley.paul@gmail.com and Leopoldo Pea leo.penaramos@gmail.com
Please use End Notes rather than Footnotes and place page numbers in the upper right hand corner. Original, unpublished submissions in Microsoft Word (PC compatible format) should be sent electronically to both of the editors for this issue: Paul Worley worley.paul@gmail.com and Leopoldo Pea leo.penaramos@gmail.com Creative poetry, essays and short fiction should not exceed 30 pages, 12 point font, double-spaced. We do accept simultaneous submissions of creative works. Scholarly articles under consideration should not be submitted elsewhere. Please include the following information in the body of the email:
Full name Institutional Affiliation Telephone number Email address Regular mail address Title of the submission A brief biography to be included with publication should your submission be selected.
Please make sure that the actual manuscript bears no reference to the authors name or institution.
Label Me Latina/o is indexed by the MLA International Bibliography and is listed in the MLA Directory of Periodicals. ISSN 2333-4584
