GREENWICH FOOD PANTRY HAS OPEN HOURS - The
Greenwich Food Pantry, located on the second floor of the Town
Hall at 2 Academy Street, Greenwich, is now open on Tuesdays
from 9 to 11 a.m., and Wednesdays, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The
regular hours supplement the pantrys ongoing by-appointment sched-
ule. Fresh foods, including fruits, vegetables and bakery items are
now also available at the pantry during the regular hours schedule.
These changes are the result of a collaboration between Comfort
Food Community, the Greenwich Relief Committee and Greenwich
Interfaith Fellowship. The additional hours expand the pantrys abil-
ity to serve individuals and families in the Greenwich Central School
District.

Saturday, July 26, 56 Green Mountain Cemetery Lane, off County Rt. 12. A full day of events is
planned. 10 AM will be an outdoor flea market with many treasures at great prices and Rada Cutlery..
It's also a good time to watch the "OX " Roast, (which is barbequed in a pit), and chat with the cooks
and corn huskers. Take outs and family style dinner start at noon. The menu is pit roasted prime beef,
mashed potatoes, gravy, local corn on the cob, coleslaw with church's traditional dressing, rolls, butter,
beverage, and pie. Cost $12.00 for adults, $6.00 for ages 5-11, under 5 free.
The auction starts promptly at 1:00 PM. There are many items and gift certificates from area
businesses. It a fun afternoon and you can get some really good buys. Plan to eat before or later in the
afternoon. The Sunday School has a snack bar with hot dogs, snacks, soda, and water.

always appreciated, especially at "clean-up" time! This is really a community event.
FAMILY STYLE TURKEY SUPPER at the Middle Granville Presbyterian church on Route 22A
Thursday July 24 from 5-7pm. Menu includes turkey and all the fixins. Take outs and gift certificates
available. Tickets at door. Adults $8; children age 5-12 $4; under age of 4 FREE.
MASSES AT SALEM HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH are Saturday at 4:30 PM and
Sunday at 9:00 AM. There is a childrens Liturgy during Sunday Mass to which all children are
welcome. Feast of the Assumption is August 15 with Mass at 9:00 AM. The Annual Parish Picnic will
be held August 3 at 2 pm. A Summer Womens Bible Study: Bless These Lips! by Sharla Fritz will be
offered in Cambridge on six Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 PM beginning July 27. It uses lip
product analogies with humor, stories, and observations to introduce Scripture that addresses com-
mon behaviors and attitudes. It is not mandatory to attend all sessions. Please sign up by July 20 so

MASTER GARDENERS: Cornell Cooperative Extensions Master Gardeners will be available

SUMMER GARDEN PARTY PLANNED BY CAMBRIDGE
HISTORICAL SOCIETY & MUSEUM. For a summer treat,
come to the Cambridge Historical Society & Museum on Saturday
night, July 26, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the Third Annual Summer
Garden Party. The gardens will be in full bloom, there will be live
music, wonderful food, wine and soft drinks, a silent auction and a
special exhibit in the Carriage Barn. This has been a highlight
event for the Museum for the past two years and one in which the
weather has cooperated beautifully. In case of rain, however, the
House is always available with seating inside and on the porch.
This year the big project for the Museum has been the complete
restoration and painting of the lovely old Victorian house you
may see it completed or still in progress. Time will tell. Please put
July 26 on your calendar and come support the Museum for this
fund raiser only $10 per person covers the whole evening.

north of Main Street (just down the street from the closed Cambridge

A GATHERING FOR FAMILIES IN THE WEST
HOOSICK AREA: Families in the West Hoosick area have the
opportunity to gather each Thursday evening, through July 31.
Bring lawn chairs and/or a blanket and spend some time renewing
old friendships and getting to know new neighbors. Young folks
and the young at heart will have the opportunity to join in a pick-up
game of volleyball, but you dont have to be a pro to play on our
teams! There will also be other supervised, age-appropriate games
for kids. The fun will begin at 7:00 pm and run until 8:30 pm,
weather permitting. Come join us in the field by the COMMUNITY
CHURCH in West Hoosick (also known as West Hoosick Baptist).

SMALL GRAINS: HARVESTING, HANDLING, DRYING,
AND STORING Managing barley, wheat, and other small grains
from harvest through storage is a new challenge as growers learn
to meet quality standards for the new local markets of brewers
and bakers. Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Carey Institute
for Global Good are sponsoring an on-farm workshop, Small
Grains: Harvesting, Handling, Drying, and Storing. Hosted by
Gibson Farms LLC, 3861 County Rte 21, in Schodack Landing
from 1 to 3 pm on Tuesday, July 22.. Gibson Farms has been
growing grains on over 1000 acres for many years, marketing to
grain companies and local livestock producers. They will share
their expertise and explain the various machines and components
to their grain business. Aaron Gabriel, agronomist for Cornell
Cooperative Extension, will discuss the principles involved in
managing grain from harvest through storage, including pest
management and safety. Machinery and handling will be discussed
for both large-scale and small-scale growers. Quality requirements
for small grains to meet the local markets will also be explained.

domestic stockpiles already at a four-year high. Output in the U.S. will jump 2.8 percent to 14.314

after fewer acres were planted, a wet June left fields in the best condition since 2003 and sent
prices into a bear market two months before the harvest starts.

drought that damaged crops and sent prices
surging, farmers will see yields rise 4.1
percent to an all-time high of 165.3 bushels
an acre, government data show. Rising grain
output in the U.S., the worlds largest
producer, is keeping global food prices in
check while boosting profit for meat
producers including Tyson Foods Inc. and
makers of sweeteners and ethanol including
Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. Not suprising,
then, Futures have tumbled 20 percent since
the end of April, slipping into a bear market
on July 3 to $4.1525 on the Chicago Board of Trade, after touching $4.145, the lowest since Jan. 10.
The Bloomberg Commodity Index of 22 raw materials dropped 2.6 percent over the same period,
while the MSCI World Index of equities advanced 4.7 percent. The Bloomberg Treasury index
gained 0.3 percent.
