COUNCIL MEMBER HELEN ROSENTHAL ANNOUNCES VIGIL FOR JEAN
CHAMBERS AND CALL TO ACTION FOR STREET SAFETY

Council Member Helen Rosenthal and the family of Jean Chambers have announced a
vigil and a call to action to remember Ms. Chambers, who was struck and killed last week
while crossing the street at 95
th
and West End Avenue.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 17 at 7:30pm on the northwest corner of 95
th

Street and West End Avenue. Ms. Chambers husband, John Chambers, will speak at the
vigil, as will Ms. Chambers priest Elizabeth Maxwell of Saint Michaels Church, Cooper
Stocks mother Dana Lerner, and other neighbors.

Council Member Rosenthal will share plans to improve street safety at and around the
intersection.

Ms. Chambers death is the fourth pedestrian fatality this year in a two-block radius of
the Upper West Side. On January 10, 2014, Alexander Shear was killed on 96
th
and
Broadway, and about an hour later, nine-year-old Cooper Stock was killed on 97
th
Street
and West End Avenue. On January 17, Samantha Lee was killed on 96
th
& Broadway.
